Title: Would padilla do good in the 212s.
Post by: flex933 on July 28, 2013, 08:10:01 PM
I think he would wipe the floor in the midget class except for maybe lee priest and david henry.

True. Not sure about Priest anymore but David Henry is very underrated, always shredded.
Benfatto and Labrada would also wipe the floor in the 212 class.

There's just no comparison. They should just make 212 a "classic" bodybuilding class and reward symmetry and classic posing.

Padilla was like 5'1-5'2, if that...so no, I don't think so.

Yeah... the Benfatto pic is awesome. Compare it to, for example, Branch Warren:

Or to Greg Kovacs:

Padilla was just awesome. He was only 5 feet 2 but had great proportions which made him look taller standing on his own. He should have won the Olympia in 81 at 155 lbs. In 1980 he was the freakiest competitor at the Olympia at 180 lbs and looked massive. If he was 6 feet 2 he would have been 260lbs and made Arnold and Lou look tiny.
If he had not been banned from the IFBB Universe 1975 in South Africa because he turned down Ben Weider's perverted advances he would possibly have won the Universe and got a lot of publicity in Pumping Iron.

His comeback in 1990 with the new drugs made him a real contender against Dorian Yates. Unfortunately I believe he had a heart attack a few years back and is back stacking shelves in his parents grocery store in Rochester, new York.

What happened between him and Weider exactly?

Apparently Ben Weider had a fondness for young boys and wanted Danny to put on a school uniform and perform sexual favours during the 75 Universe and Olympia in 1975. Danny said no and Franco wore the uniform instead. Franco won the lightweight Olympia and Danny was erased in the lightweight.  My old coach Jimmy Thomson spilled the beans on this a few years back.

The biggest factor in the 212 is the one who takes up the most volume while being shredded, so no, he would not do good.

By himself in picture it appears he can hold his own but the field today would out size him by 30 lb at least, he wouldn`t even place.

Take Jose Raymond for example, he looks awful in picture but when I stood next to him back stage at the Toronto pro I was actually in awe on how much muscle he carries on his frame, lb for lb he is as big as Markus Ruhl

NO, this was post Olympia party regarding to Serge Nubret.
Mike "Jew" Katz replaced D.Padilla as the 3rd U.S. team member, 2 U.S. heavyweights & no one in lightweight class,
yeah Katz/Weider screw him.
Katz placed only 4th  ;D

From the late 70s to today i`ve seen most of the top pros, either competing, watching them train,or training with them, and obviously they all looked impressive, but i have to say that Danny is the only person i`ve seen and thought "now thats a bodybuilder".You really had to see him up close to understand what i mean, every single muscle group was perfect, proportions unreal, and every bodypart flowed into the next one.

Franco must have wore the uniform again in '81, cause he got a gift.

Coming in third in the Night of the Champions. Yates first pro American contest where he came in second. Padilla should have won. He was over 200lbs here.

Padilla was awesome! Saw him guest pose in the early eighties! Packed a lot  symmetrical of muscle on that 5'2" frame!

This is one interview where he says he was 225 for that night of the champions contest. Looking at the pictures at the time I believe it.
