This lad has an amazing incredible style, he can put guitar to anything and make it sound better than before. Honestly, i am shocked by how good this lad is..........
-
Better or worse no guitar thread is complete without:
-
Something about his tone is really displeasing to my ear. I can't put my finger on it... kid can play, but that tone makes me want to kill myself.

I found it irritating, as well.
IMO, the late great Billy Jones, of the Outlaws, had the best tone, ever.

That was complete shit.

That must go a step further than the "brown sound" that originated in the 80s
I think part of it is that terrible harshness that comes from a shitty solid state amp. I've heard some decent tones come from solid state amps... but IMHO, this was not one.

He's a fairly average upper-technique wanker. Nothing mind blowing.
-
Technical? Sure.
Playing endless scales and sweeps over a 3 note techno pop song? Attention whoring douche totally missing the point of playing.
15 minutes of this and you would go insane at it all sounding the same.

John Lee Hooker sat motionless looking at a point on the floor listening the the low drone sound from his amp, A circuit of electric aggression. Only yet too threaten hitting that string, they shook in fear. While the white made sounds with there mouths.

Great underated band.
...Huey was no slouch himself 8)

I like this one.

Kid can play, no doubt... but I'm hearing multiple overdubs in that gangham style.
Kids today have loopers, ability to find anything on web, Adderall for concentration, 64-track recording on their ipad...
yes, he knows his runs, but pull that off live with a rock band, shitty monitors, a drummer with no dynamics, when it's 95 degrees out and you're in direct sunlight... THEN I'll be dazzled :) There's a reason Satriani is Satch and this kid is acting milli-vanilli over something he recorded over the course of 3 weeks.
EDIT: LOL at his Line6 tone... ;D

Im not able to pick apart guitar playing as, quite frankly, i dont play. I love to listen though and i think this lad is outstanding. I noticed a comment on youtube regarding his ability to play A7X's "Afterlife" so i sought it out and thought he did a cracking job putting his own spin on it.

RIP Gary

Kids good! I agree he has no real feel, just fast and technically good!
-

-
If you're going to play fast, as least put some emotion into your playing, like Shawn Lane does.
-
