Title: Haven't hit the weights in one month
Post by: Rhomboids on August 04, 2013, 06:04:27 PM
My sciatic nerve has had me fucked.  When it starts feeling better I fuck it up somehow and I'm back to limping and unable to walk straight.  I'm seeing a sports medicine dude next week though.

I don't feel particularly out if shape or small, but I think a month is the limit for me to maintain a semblance of shape.  Went to the beach today and got above average looks but not like when I'm training normally.  Some days I feel almost pumped, like if my body was getting a shot of testosterone to compensate for lack of training.

I was looking forward to hitting the weights really hard this summer but this shit came out of nowhere and won't leave.  I can't even do push-ups as that makes me arch my back slightly and that pinges on my nerve.

Just thought it interesting that I haven't fallen completely apart
T after a month of inactivity.  What's the longest you getbiggers have gone without hitting the iron?

I ruptured my Achilles' tendon in my left leg on Wednesday, 4 days ago. I have been back to the gym twice in that time. My new split looks like this:

Day 1: upper body
Day 2: upper body
Day 3: upper body
Day 4: rest fuck it, upper body

Just get that shit done. Find a way.

For sure.  I know the worse thing to do is nothing st all because you feel like shit when you comeback.  I want to wait at least until I see this doctor.  I think I made it much worse by trying to work through it when it hurt only a little.  If I know I won't make it worse ill be back there like a fly on shit.

from what it seems a better thread for this place would probably be"have never hit the weights ever"

No, that would be insane. I waited two days. I am going to see the surgeon this morning to go over the MRI and decide on the next route. I am gonna be wearing something big and uncomfortable on my leg for quite a while.

The Bouncer once tore his thumb tendon, and didn't train at all for 12 weeks. What's the point if he can't take bathroom pics of his abs on an iphone?

when i was away 6years i got down from a juiced  10%bf and 95kg at 5´8 and 48cm in arms to around 80kg 20%bf and 41cm arms the most annoying thing was going to the clubs (i live in a really small town) and here the comments from everybody telling me that i was small now...like no shit sherlock. but i never got depressed or anything. i stopped training because other stuff came btw and then i got a kid etc etc. but i have to say it feels fucking good to be back, im like 75% of what i was after 8 weeks of training (ofcourse i jumped on the juice from the start).

What vigorous thumb-based actions do you think he was doing at the time that caused this injury?

95% detachment. Surgery on Wednesday. 6 weeks in a hard cast and then I can begin rehab. I am gonna start agitating for GH for its "recuperative" effect.

He was simply working the door at Rainbows, and subconsiously clicking the headcount device with a score out of 10 for each males ass instead of numbers of people in the building. A tragic case of acute carpal tunnel syndrome.

i fucked up my knee at the end of March; couldn't walk for a month straight and got in a really bad spot mentally, as there was a big chance i tore my acl and lcl and potentially wouldn't be able to work out for a year or so

luckily i recovered, but my lifts did go to shit

as soon as i was able to crawl out of my pithole i hit the gym

was planning to compete in powerlifting competitions, but since my lifts took a serious dive i'm leaning more towards bodybuild, the epitome of lifting weights  ;D ;D

Most time I've ever taken off is a couple days in the last 30+ years. Couldn't do weights but I still did cardio with my arm in a sling and 2 broken ribs. Hurt like a sob, but watcha gonna do?

Been training 20 years now and I've had several occasions where I haven't trained for a week or two but the longest proper layoff I took was between mid 2005 and late 2007 where I didn't even look at a weight for over two and a half years. It did me good though as I've hardly taken a week off since.

No. Haven't taken any antibiotics in 10 years. I did this the honest and stupid way. Overdoing it on 40 yard sprints.

No, I went back on for a bit from 2008 into 2009. Came off gear in April 2009 and haven't touched it since.

A fucking year....MVA in Sept 2012 torn labrum and other nifty injuries...surgery Jan 3... Just did 2 plates (225) for three this week....still hurts but at least can work out now....going hard. Doc told me up to a year to two for full recovery....lost ROM by 25%.

Treadmill mostly walking (not allowed to run) some weight with PT but worthless for lifting.....lost 20 lbs of muscle....this is what's left.

Natural.

Recovery is daunting....

Never had to deal with an injury this serious before....very heartbreaking to lose all the gains took so long to achive.....

Worst is the fear of re-injury and having to start all over. :-X

Found a really good sports medicine guy downtown.  The MRI showed that i have two herniated discs in my lower back.  We're gonna hit it with PE and if that doesn't work a cortizone shot and hopefully that takes care of it.

Still haven't hit the weights but somehow don't feel the itch to get back.  Will start doing pushups at home for conditioning so i don't feel like complete shit when i go back to the gym.

I actually fucked up my back when i was a teenager.  Never got it looked at and since then i've had sciatic problems.  But the discs were messed up some 18yrs ago.

Rhomboids-
I have dealt with the same issue a few years back...I wont tell you what I went through, but I will tell you this-I bought an inversion board( Teeter Hangup), and have never had a problem with my sciatica since the day I first used it...
Try it before going to sports doctors, chiros, etc...

You most likely need a much longer layoff... more like 3-6 months.  When you go back, you'll be weak, but you'll be fresh and all healed.
