Title: Serious Question....
Post by: Tedim on August 07, 2013, 09:26:36 AM
Would it be better to go sub 10%BF and train up from there on lower cals... or stay at 12% and train heavy on more cals? Keep in mind I'm coming off injury and am still healing.

Natty no gear....yet! (prob. use 80% Gals method once I get on test)

12% is too fat natty or not.

Damn dude we have a strict definition of 'fat' on this board  - I look soooooooo in shape when I'm 12%  :D

Really depends what your goals are.... you know....

I mean honestly this discussion is kinda splitting hairs because the bf% levels are so close, its very hard for anyone to distinguish between 10% and 8% lol...  or 12% and 10%......

I'd be happy staying at 12% and working from there... some may not feel so comfortable with that!  All depends on you really

Goal is simple regain 20lbs of muscle I lost since late last years MVA....back then I was about 8-10% on 2000 cals a day....

Post by: BIG ACH on August 07, 2013, 09:44:46 AM

This may not be a popular opinion - but I think I look fine now..... if I were you I'd just try to focus on putting on lean muscle, don't stress too much about losing weight or what have you.... forget the numbers
Title: Re: Serious Question....
Post by: dustin on August 07, 2013, 09:50:01 AM
Cut and then bulk once you've peaked. Any time I cut hard I just up the calories and I bounce back up and fill out without bloating.

12% body fat is FAT, my friend. Cut and look good, don't be in the fat zone where you can't take off your shirt.
Title: Re: Serious Question....
Post by: Tedim on August 07, 2013, 09:50:20 AM
I'm not as worried about looks as much as putting on muscle back on my frame (I can cut to sub 10 at will)....my dress shirts shoulders hang an inch or more lower now :'(

The feedback I'm looking for....best way to put on lean muscle quickest. I though muscle mass might return faster...BUT it has not 20 POUNDS GONE!  :-X

Title: Re: Serious Question....
Post by: bigmc on August 07, 2013, 09:51:34 AM
its hard to cut and put on size at the same time especially naturally

i would cut first then clean bulk

8% area is the perfect area to be in. not to fat so you still look great with shirt off. but not so lean that you lose strength or go flat.

big ache, 12% is fat. sorry. maybe not compared to the general public but I don't compare myself to the general public. my stomach looks like shit at 12%
Title: Re: Serious Question....
Post by: BIG ACH on August 07, 2013, 09:55:02 AM
comeon ach youre just been lazy dieter now for a while.

with sayin 10% looks kinda like 8, and 10 is close to 12, why not 14%? ;D

6 and 8 look nothing alike.12 and up dont even matter anymore, as there wont be any cuts really anyway.

its ok ,naty will have somewhat abs and lines at 10-12, but for on gear, the lower the better.

LOL yes I'm a lazy dieter.....

Come one thats horseshit if you think you can EASILY distinguish the difference between 2% bodyfat!!  Give me a break!

when you are very lean, yes you can distinguish it very easily. you should know this, pretty sure you have been fucken shredded yourself.

I think 12% is IDEAL everyday walking around bf% for a non competitive bodybuilder or an off-season bodybuilder.....

But you also have to remember bf% levels look different on everyone, people just carry their fat differently!

If 8% is what makes you happy - then more power to you brother!
Title: Re: Serious Question....
Post by: Tedim on August 07, 2013, 09:57:22 AM
I didn't cut to sub 10 earlier with the injury I wanted body to heal and wanted additional energy FAT available....but I'm not seeing the growth I was hoping for....and granted its been only months since I can lift anything decent, yet still!

Yes maybe if we are talking 5% or 3%

But 10% IS NOT THAT big of a difference from 12% - I'm not saying its not different, I'm just saying more people are bound to have trouble distinguishing the two!

I have a funny method to tell bodyfat....at 12 I'm loose in 34's and need belt.... at 10 in 32's with a bit of muffin top (daughters comment) at 9 good fit....8 32's are loose.

forget about weight, weight means nothing.

Its a big phyche out to be 6' and see 180 on scale....havent seen that since HS now looking at 195 and getting chills.

EDIT: I am 195 and don't want to see 180! Kapeesh
Title: Re: Serious Question....
Post by: BIG ACH on August 07, 2013, 10:02:13 AM
yah, man, if im at 10%, i have kinda small frame, i look like never lifted a weight before.

even 5-10lbs of fat and water on where i am now, would make me look 20times less impressive.

agreed 12% is fat as hell.for christ sake.

man ofc can easy distinguish on myself, you been shredded before, and then after rebounding, when say 2% fatter, im sure you could tell the difference :D

over 12%, sure, i cant tell anymore, as all lines are gone.
that bc youre a nattie, muscle dont came fast, even on gear.
and they dont come any faster when fatter.

i totaly agree with bouncer no more than 8%, esp on gear, he knows full well why that is bc hes been there.
hell, when at 8% and on test, overeating will make you feel very sorry ;D

LOL When I rebound it ain't no 2%..... its like 200%  ;D

you know i love you , and precisely for that, youre my most respected natty trainer besides che(who only does steroids precontest,so stil natty)

i know youre the type to gain fat quickly adn hold water, oh well, this gets even worse when one is natty, so its understandable to not set the bodyfat bar so low for you 8)
yea but its temprary and most likely water.

to put it bluntly, rather be like what im now, i dont know, i barely break the 200lbs barrier now but am ripped all the way, ot fatleniko, a "manly" 270lbs .hell fatleniko was afraid to leave the house, he tought ppl would accuse him for being the reason for famines :D

I should post the "Fatlegroinko" pic . 263 pounds, about 17 percent body fat, I thought I looked like the man. I was a big motherfucker for natural though.

thats true, however i myself in some clothes look like i nver lifted a weight

example, in my work uniform, ppl never said anything, the ppl who work around the corners, nothing, despite me talking t o them often when having a break for a ciggy.
then one day i walk by when i was off work, with the gay shorts, shirtless, heading to the beach and theyre like "fucking hell, arnold" blabla.

that said, who ever been to bbuilding show, theyll know that the athletes when ripped, even the heavyweigths will look like normal guy in the clothes.

hell, a world champ i know looked like anorexic in clothes.

do you think smoking helps curb your appetite

Unless you have a 29 inch waist and are a one in a million genetic freak, which you're not, at a natural 6'00", 180 pounds, u will not look like u even lift, particularly w/ clothes on. If you're in a tank top, and your BF is low enough, your neighbors may ask if you're into "working out," but they certainly aren't going to confuse you with a bodybuilder or any kind of strength athlete.

I am 195....I'm concerned that I might see 180 IF I DONT PUT MY MASS BACK ON.....and at 10% and down I sport a 32 waist or less

Some might find Shakespeare somewhat of a bore, but then again, he was never known best for his comedic pieces.

Mainly his Tragedies like Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello, Romeo and Juliet and King Lear made him the Legend that he is.

Actually you got zero advice.

Here's some coming from another guy that exploded his shoulder..my warmup for bench borders on ridiculous.  All pressing movements. Do your usual light set.i do the bar, and then 135....but then throw on a little weight, and do a couple more. I do three. Get the joint warm and used to handling a little weight before you push it. Between sets I take a ten pound plate bend over with my arm hanging down (like a concentration curl) and swing my arm in a circular motion. Going in bigger and smaller circles in a controlled fashion.

I'm sure your p/t has given you stuff... that's what really helped me.

I do similar

I stretch shoulder on smith m first then rotate joint 360 deg with 5 lbs dumbbell

I do first bench flat and decline bar only then 10 reps at 135 then go hog wild until failure

Incline I do dumbbell only the bar hurts

And lately every day is standing press day.

Edit I'm going to try the movement with the 10 lb plate thnx

Give this a try...between 135 and hog wild...throw in a couple of sets at 170 or so. Don't shoot your nut, stop before you are really pushing.  I found I am stronger on my work sets when I do this.  Gets all your synapses firing.  I used to akways feel I should. Have got more out of my sets,  I wasn't "ready"

I stretch shoulder on smith m first then rotate joint 360 deg with 5 lbs dumbbell

I do first bench flat and decline bar only then 10 reps at 135 then go hog wild until failure

Incline I do dumbbell only the bar hurts

And lately every day is standing press day.

Edit I'm going to try the movement with the 10 lb plate thnx

do more warmups.
Say your workset is 225
A far better warmup would be
bar x 20 to 30
Bar plus a pair 25s x 12
135 x 8
175 x 5
200 x 3
225 x 1
Then 225 to complete failure.

Sounds like a lot but its safer and you will probably be stonger on your workset.

Here is what I do on chest days twice weekly. Typing on iPhone with my sausage fingers.....

Stretch smith m with bar at highest setting all sorts of twisting turning pulling

Then with 5 lb dumbbell using bench I hold up and start doing circles until full ROM

I circuit my flat incline decline

Start with bar for fast movements about 25 reps or so both on flat incline

Do 60 dumbs for 8 on incline

Do 135 F&D for 10 or so

Incline 70 for 6 to 8 rest and for 3 more

185 for 6 flat stay at 135 on decline 10+

Incline 75 for 4/5 top of pyramid then later 3 sets down to 55

Flat 225 for reps as much as I can push then pyramid down to 135 close grip about 4 more sets different weight

Decline to 155 for 10 the pyramid you get the idea

Last set flat till full failure on 135.

Then polish with cable machines
