my shit new portable music player's battery died again after 10 seconds and i was left there without music at the start of a leg workout
i felt an overwhelming feeling op hopelessness and went home
i can't take it, all the senseless talking from losers who lost their dreams
the endless bro science from assholes with nothing to do
in short, recommend me A SUPER RELIABLE PORTABLE MUSIC PLAYER, IDEALLY ONE THAT IS VERY SMALL AND HAS SUPER LASTING BATTERY
I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE

gym with no music is the way to go. instead of listening something you don't like, get your wireless headphones, smart phone and there you go.
I have just bought these ones, Plantronics Backbeat 903 +
can't wait to use them.
-
Eh, nothing wrong with working out with no music.
Anabolichalo, you may want to train without music so you can get in touch with your muscles. Become one with them.
-
I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE
Great, don't comeback to this forum ;D
-
F A G you are. Music not needed to be hardcore
-
Yes go old school style.
My gym has 2 floors. The basement does not have a sound system. Sometimes its cool to train to no music.
Personally, I am not one to put headphones on. I hate the freaking wire. Always getting in the way and I hate music blasting in my ears.
-
who really trains with headphones ???
seriously, i dont know any long time lifters who train with headphones.

About every person in my gym trains with ear/headphones.
The question is:
Who DOESNT train with some form of music in their ears while lifting? Seems like most people do these days.
-
Normally yes, luckily my gym plays drum step / dnb during the day so its not a disaster if I forget my iPod
The worst thing is having to listen to the bros talking to each other about how hardcore they are

Who runs with headphones on? Unless you are on a treadmill, You don't get rid of one of your senses. Besides, running without headphones helps to clear one's head of thoughts and you can concentrate on your surroundings
-
all you hardcore guys saying fuck headphones.. i guess you all train in hardcore bbing gyms..
try training without headphones on a monday at 6.30pm at any 'normal people' gym.. the amount of sheer bullshit you will overhear and notice happening around you will just take over your mind and suddenly that 5 plate squat doesn't seem so appealing anymore
-
do u not own a smartphone?
I have an ipod touch, 2 nano's, and a shuffle... but I haven't used them in years.
smartphones are cheap dude. put in it a spibelt www.spibelt.com on back and leg day so the bars don't smash it in your pocket... good luck getting those arm bands to fit.

i imagine there's a big difference between the atmosphere in the 'pen' and the atmosphere in a 24h fitness blasting out justin bieber, swarmed in huddles of 16 year old boys and middle aged mothers
-
When you rely too much on external factors, this is what you get. You need to master your mind, and this was a good opportunity to do so.

i train in sort of a bodybuilding-ish gym (compared to say, 24 hour or la fitness), but this stuff doesn't bother me at all. the only thing that gets to me is young kids doing cringe-worthy workouts -- forced reps every set, awful form (as advised by the "expert" friend who's been lifting for 6 months ::)), useless exercises, etc. i want to set them on the right track, but most of the time it's probably pointless, so i rarely say anything.
honestly i don't think i could ever workout to loud, headphone music again. tried it once or twice... i can't concentrate, and i don't really get "pumped up" by music or use it to avoid boredom either. if anything, i'd prefer the gym didn't even play music.
-

Agreed. You will find you will focus more on each rep.

The absence of continuous noise makes many people restless; they're addicted to it, which -IMO- is pretty sad...

Pretty good sound

I don't think my phone will fit into my belt. lol. the loops are pretty tight. Single-prong 10mm Inzer.
of course, I don't wear a belt anymore since I moved away from PLing. :-\

The ipod shuffle is tiny and you can clip on anywhere. The puma "El Diego" earbuds block out surrounding noise and sound surprisingly well with a good bass.

You must not like doing squats either...
LOL, don't get me wrong! I would not follow all of his advices, like performing sissy squats or eating eggs & steak all day long, but he had interesting ideas. I still have those Ironman mags with his interviews, guy could be a top notch Getbigger.
-
If you hear what other people are talking about in your gym then you are not focusing on the job at hand.
Ever see Yates or Ronnie with headphones?

Insane enough to be one that's for sure.

That's a good point, you need to force yourself to focus.

Yeah but those guys are unapproachable to an average gym goer. Not many people are likely to interrupt them while training.

Your commitment to iron is unsurpassed. Work ethic of the Gods.

That's true, but I've found an easy technique to avoid this as much as possible: just stare to the floor during your sets. A huge headphone will also help ;)

Be the weight.
Be the muscle.

I have to wear headphones (ear buds) when training. if I don't, I have people thinking it's social hour like it's a high school weight room.. just there to puff up their chests and bullshit, especially if you work at the gym.. people think since you're there 12hrs a day, you can workout whenever you want and they can interrupt your workouts..... plus, the music we play is complete crap. Try squatting 505, and on your 3rd rep Adele comes over the speakers... wtf. That set is wasted. or if you're on rep 3 of 225lb 20 rep squats and Blondie or Madonna comes on.. it's fucking irritating.
ear buds in & avoiding eye contact. The only way I can get a decent 35-45min workout in.
-

seriously, i dont know any long time lifters who train with headphones.
I can't concentrate correctly with music in my ears, the wire gets tangled up with the weights and you look like a big tool with stupid wires connecting to your ears. The sucky thing is my gym plays a bunch of shitty songs singing about taking clothes off and partying in autotune.. :-\
-
I have these
Pretty good sound
just arrived will check them tonight in the gym.

-
Bro that set was great, you really nailed it
Bro don't worry about eating that pizza you just burned a thousand calories on the pec deck
Bro I can see your abs really coming in, pull up your shirt again so I can have another look
Bro bro bro
I put my iPod shuffle through the wash and now I have to listen to this endless spew of bullshit, plus the gym resident " badass" fat permabulker hitting on ugly fat chicks right next to me then grunting at me while doing much too heavy shrugs, in some weird alpha male ritual as I don't GAF and do my hammer inclines with just a plate a side trying to ignore him.
-
I like it quiet in the gym, like a church.
Most gyms blast bad music while you are in there. If there isn't music blasting you will usually hear a bunch of lazy fat bodies talking. Fortunately for me I have learned to focus on what I am doing and tune them out. OP, I thought you were hard core. I just lost a tiny bit of respect for you. Come to my seminar and learn to be a real man like me.

Wait, what? How old are you? This is a bodybuilding board, right? When it comes to training attire, that mp3 player nor the Google Glass are anywhere near as gay as parachute pants, flannel shirts with no sleeves, or pretty much anything Flex Wheeler wore for training in the late 80's/early 90's.
I'm not ashamed to admit that while training I used to listen to a Sony Walkman CASSETTE player while carrying it around in a fluorescent green fanny pack. Compared to that, NO plain black mp3 player is gay in the slightest.

Great reply, LOL!
Early 40 here, so I remember those goofy gym clothes, yellow lunchbox-like walkmans and kangaroo bags as well, so yeah, it's all relative..
I use a pair of dirt-cheap in ear headphones. Glad I have a clipped MP3 player as well, since I broke my player with a display with a heavy DB, shit happens..
