X5 2009-2010
535 2011-2012
hmmm...hmmm. I'd go with the X5. Pros: Better reliability than the first gen X5, AWD drive
Cons: typical BMW reliability=$, depreciation, due to many factors, including the brand new X5. Whatever you do, stay away from 1st gen X5s...njflex can give you the breakdown on the mechanics.
535, you will hate the steering, hate it I say. And then there is the reliability issue, mechanic or not.
I tell you what, I see a lot of guys who are driving an e39 5 series. And these dudes range from 30s-60s. Granted this might be a second car. It was made from I believe 98-2003. People love that body style, it's timeless, and it was fairly reliable (for a BMW). A damn classic.

man, give me better options.
i guess the c300 is the way to go? i don't like the 3-series.
what is a 1st gen x5?
-
I was actually considering a first gen x5 before reading this thread. lol... before that i'd considered an ML430. and upon research promptly eliminated that from my list of options. lol. The GL is out of my budget.

pm njflex...1st gen X5s are the devil...you think you had issues with your e38...

535 2011-2012
Whatever one u chose, just have them give u the 100,000 mile maintenance warranty. I have a friend who always gets a 3 yr old BMW like this and trades them in when they get to 100K miles. He has a new used 650 right now. I just get them new, because I use them for work.

nah.. i'll just cross it off the list. lol...as well an an E60. Client of mine just picked up a CL600 a couple days ago... holy hell I want one. Didn't think i'd fit in it, but he's about 290lbs still and fits fine. Leather is way nicer than an S430 and way smoother than an S500.

Hold on. :o
the maintenance program is totally a joke or scam. It cover oil change and front wipper only.
My X5 still under 6 years warranty. My local dealer in alhambra want to charge me $145 for break inspection, $320 for repairing a dead break light (I paid $10 to a roadside garage, they resolved the problem in 1 minute). BMW dealer do not provide tire rotate service unless you pay them extra money and they keep pushing me replace all four tires for more than $1600 even my X5 has only 20000 miles.
DO NOT PURCHASE ANY EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM BMW.

Are u sure about the maintenance program only covering oil changes? I had static in one of my front speakers and they changed them all at no charge to me. They are a pain in the ass with the tires, I always get my one tires as needed from someone else, they are way to much.

That hasn't been my experience with them. You need to ask them and get it in writing.

ohh the e53 2001-2007 x5 tough one ,window regulators/door lock issues/huge recall backin day for auxillary fan's/suspension front especially/water pump/thermostats/water leaks in roof/
pro's handled like a car, nice looking.low mileage and get history...
5 series i have a 2004 e60 with e39 engine so easier to fix and some what cheaper.once they went twin and now single turbo lot of engine issues and depending on year ,,the 5 series like the 3 series is still nice car to lease/own.there looks hold up and if you get one with less bells and whistles electrically you will avoid downtime in shop...

Yes the e39 was a classic, particularly the M5. Test drive the 535, see if you like the electronic steering assist (used to by hydraulic). Nice car but honestly I think it's been cheapened over the years. Rather have an A5/S5. Neither BMW or Audi or world class leaders in reliability though.

Yea but an e39 is too old for gthong to pimp in he's gotta stay fresh...

get a used lexus es 330 or 350.
used is 250 could also be a good choice. sadly, lexus is not the bigget on horsepower or raw performance but they do make reliable lux cars.
-
What is the maintenance going to be like on this piece? 86k miles, manual :)

there's nothing like driving a nice, big, german sedan... and knowing if you crash, or somebody rear-ends you in a Yukon doing 70, you and your occupants will most likely walk away.

Nooooooo. .... lol.. you'll never see me in an ES. I'd rather drive a Toyota Avalon than an ES. lol
