Most runners have to stop when they reach their lactate threshold, but Dean Karnazes' muscles never tire: he can run for three days and nights without stopping. What's his secret?

telling lies?
-
Was he the man that was tested on Stan Lees Superhumans? The guy that appeared on the show apparently breaks lactic acid down in a way never before seen. Interesting even in theory.
-
That guy isn't even close to being an elite marathon runner. Even though his 3:00 marathon time is really good it's a joke to a real runner. He claims faster times but can't provide proof of it in any race. Even his bragging times is not elite.
-
Cabbage has alot of vitamin C.
-
he looks like he believes that what he does is something good and should garner respect and awe

if you had read any of his books you would know he has done endurance feats that only very few people alive has done. E.g. the south pole marathon.

Mighty Greek genetics.

He makes his living off of self promotion. A lot of what he does is gimmicks. Some of it can't be proven like his 38 miles a day through the Sahara. He makes his living off of it. Many could walk jog 4 hour marathons in 50 days if it was their profession. I'm not saying it is easy. I will give him this. He is in incredible shape but he is not and will never be a world class athlete.
-
Forrest Gump has him beat
-
And his tally of Olympic golds currently stands at................zero.

Agreed. Before all this ultramarathon crap, he was a marketing director in a company.. so he knows how to market himself.

Isn't he owner of his own supplement or vitamin company or some shit like that?
-
Is there video evidence of this? He should put a "GoPro" camera on while he runs for days, and see what happens
;D
-
holds alot of muscle for a guy who runs so much
-
Lance (Armstrong) was similar physiologically. His VO2max was normal (for a world-class professional cyclist) but his lactate threshold, which the drugs don't affect to my knowledge, was super-human.

bullshit
he won thanks to drugs. nothing superhuman about him.
-
He swears that Beats By Jay is what keeps him going...
-
He must be a getbigger, lots of grand claims but absoloutely no video or witness evidence to back it up.

The haterz are out in this thread :-[

Better calves than Wolf.
-
he is only running from himself
-
3 days straight? Ok his muscles don't fatigue apparantly but he doesn't get out if breath? Bullshit, unless his name is Steve Austin

A fawn has better calves than wolf.

Cswine of the running world?

Exactly...he could use the time lapse mode or something.
My hero 3 is small as fuck, so that would be no hindrance if used with a chest mount. We're not living in 1975 anymore. :)

Is he a mutant?

Why all the Hate on Lance,
Do you Honestly believe he

I have never understood that either. Those Euro boys were loaded up. I had about 3k wrapped up in a mountain bike and would ride with roadies. Almost all dicks
-
Cycling is a lot of fun though road bikes never interested me. I was heading home to get ready for work one day. Got stupid trying to do silly shit like you see in magazines and just folded a Mavic 217. I was PISSED.
-
-
Thank god I have mavic 721s. The drugs are exactly what increased the lactic threshold, the epo and blood doping is used exactly for that. Lance is a great athlete, also a complete dick but pro cyclists usually are

serious question, do most people build up lactic acid when running?
i don't, never have (judging by feel).
-
Why would any one in their right mind, want to run for 72 hours?

Doesn't lactic acid build of because of lack of oxygen in the muscle?
Im sure distance runners shouldn't suffer from it, sprinters yes.
Get on a stationary bike on low tension and you can peddle all day, turn it up full torque and you burn out your legs in a few minutes.

What's with the blue, Basile?
-
No thong, no care.
-
all oil
-
Lactic acid will still build up at low intensity unless trained, my legs will usually call it a day after about 4hours riding, the whole reason cyclist wear compression shorts ect is that it makes the blood restricted, the heart has to pump harder to push it through this area which results in the lactic acid being moved on.
-
Karmazes is a favorite target of serious runners. He's never posted any half-way decent running times at any distance, relative to elite and even top regional runners; yet, he's more famous and richer than all of them put together. He's essentially what they call a hobby-jogger who has built a brand no serious runner can even come close to matching.
In bodybuilding terms it would be as if someone won a local, natural show, and was the face of bodybuilding to the general public. Imagine how much that person would be hated on GB.
Lunch Trey?

Karnazes is of course an ultra-marathon legend. I've been to one of his seminars. After the lecture I ask him his "secret"- he motioned for me to step closer and then looked around, as if to make sure nobody else was going to hear what he told me, he then said quietly, "Foot care, foot care is the key."
Absolutely true.
Me running in Death Valley on a portion of the Badwater Ultra Marathon course. 135 miles from Badwater Death Valley to the portal on Mt Whitney. Starts at 282 below sea level and finishes at 8,300 elevation. No, I did not run the entire 135 miles.

Awesome!!!... Ive worked a lot with ultra cyclists(Race Across America, etc...). Definitely a different world with ultra-endurance events.

What is he running from?
