Title: New England Patriots relsease Tebow
Post by: Coach is Back! on August 31, 2013, 11:32:19 AM
Tim Tebow's response to him getting released by the Patriots.....

“I’m blessed because of my faith, because you don’t have to worry about the future, because I know who holds my future,” Tebow said. “A lot of times people use that as a cliche, but it’s something I try to live by. It really gives you a lot of peace in whatever circumstance you’re in.” - Tim Tebow

Whether you believe that sports figures should be roll models or not, if you do decide to choose one, choose this man!!

yeah, he's a great role model.  hard working, leader, and intense.  His skill set just isn't there to be a QB, however, at this level.

I think one flaw (if it's a flaw) is that he's hard headed.  His dream is to be an NFL QB - not to be an NFL player.  He could get a job as a tight end but refuses to do anything but QB.
Maybe stubborn, maybe he just ranks it as
1) NFL QB
2) give speeches or endorse things or sportscaster and
3) NFL other position.

And that's cool, every man has their own goal set.

Why? He doesn't know how to play NFL football. I think I'll stick with Tom Brady. Thanks anyways. ;)

Tebow wouldn't be a pro bowl tight end.  But he could be a backup or 3rd string guy, you know, the 53rd player on a shitty jax roster, for example.  He'd be the most popular benchwarmer in the league, he'd go in for 3 plays a game, they'd make ten million $ off the jerseys, and local U of F fans would love it.

He's what, 6 foot 4, 250 pounds?  He's a little slow, but if he let go of the QB dream, he could focus on it and get good enough.  A lot of what the NFL does is marketing.  There have been stars with way more fanfare than actual performance.  Why not pay him league minimum $, something like 600k$ a year... and just be a little weak at that position in return for all the ticket sales?

sports figures are actually VERY good examples of role models - for both negative and positive.

they are given talent, very rare talent.  Some choose to nurture it and use it right.  Others take it for granted and they crash and burn.

I think it's GREAT to be able to show kids TWO examples - good and bad - and remind them we're all blessed with certain gifts and skills... we can nurture them, or we can take them for granted and crash and burn.

Great post.  Couldnt agree more.

And I catch heat for that... I have ZERO problem showing a kid a rich doctor and a junkie arrested and in jail...

and saying "this man went to college for 8 years, worked his ass off, and didn't do drugs.  He's rich now and has what he wants.  This other man - he did drugs, quit school, voted Obama, and broke the law - he's in jail poor and can't do what he wants."

Some say it's cruel or mean or whatever - but it's real.  The world is cruel and unforgiving.  If you're a fckup, you grow up and don't have much.  If you work hard, your dreams can come true.  I can't stand people who candy coat reality for kids.

YES sports is the same - Tebow is 26 years old.  He's worth about $4 mil and has the ability to earn 2 to 3 milion a year for the next five years as a speaker, than probably 750k a year as a part time sports personality.   He can retire at 40 with 25 million in the bank and enjoy 40 years of beach and relaxation.  THIS IS A GREAT ROLE MODEL.

Then you have vince young... WAY more talent than Tebow.  Didn't get disciplined, work hard, or pay attention... didn't care.  Blew all his money, then borrowed $300k for his own birthday party.  Still trying for another chance at football, in the same spot as Tebow... THIS IS A GREAT ROLE MODEL TOO.

Show them good and bad, and let the know life will fck you mercilessly if you make poor choices.

Absolutely.  Sports is a microcosm of society as a whole.  There are always lessons to be learned. At all levels. Too many fans focus too much on the pure success on the field/court instead of using it as a tool to teach youth what really goes on.

For the most part making smart decisions and working hard still pays off.  Combine that with someones natural talents and you really have something.  Of course there are always exceptions in regards to people making it, but the vast majority of the time things will work themselves out.

2. He's wrong about it, in which case he's led a good life (apparently)

I'm no Christian, but I'll say it: Tim Tebow fuck yeah!

I was an atheist before any tragedy.  I learned early on, watching Documentaries on animals, reading books as a child.  I can remember thinking people were lunatics at age five and six for praying and wondering why they were wasting their time when it is clear it does not work.

Growing up there was absolutely no religious nonsense or influence in any way.  I was allowed to explore the world as it is rather than be taught a delusion of any kind.

Superstition and myths were simply what they were supposed to be, superstition and myth.

That's great!  No...Really.  But tell us when you decided to become a jerk about it?  Again, really.  Because you are a jerk when it comes to Christianity and those that believe.  Never mind the ones that are false in faith, I agree that they should have the light shown on them for the cockroaches they are but what harm is there in the message of Jesus of Nazareth?

None that any reasonable person can see.

So again congratulations on finding yourself and your truth in being Atheist.  Just quit being a total jerk about it.  It makes you look as much an ass as Jim and Tammy Baker were.  Not the kind of folks any reasonable person would want to be compared to.   ;D

he has no footwork, no accuracy, and no decision making.  But if he locked down for a year to work on speed, hands, etc - yes, he would be functional enough as a tight end to make 3rd string someplace like Jax to sell jerseys.  Small guys without speed can survive in the league.  Keep him to sell jerseys and to get asses in the seat already.

Why not ridicule it?  By letting it go unchecked, you end up with such nonsense spreading or worse, you end up in an Islamist Theocracy where any questioning of their bullshit is met with violence and death.  This is precisely what happens if you let it persist and fester.  Even at the moderate level, faith and religion (belief without evidence, notions without merit or any logical basis) is incredibly dangerous to society.  Thomas Jefferson and the Founding Fathers tried to warn us of this and Thomas Jefferson wanted the WALL OF SEPARATION of Church and State to be impenetrable, lest it creep into our government and in our culture.

As for your original point, I take Thomas Jefferson`s advice and ridicule Religion and Christianity as much as I can.

He doesn`t hate either.  Thats a silly assertion to make.  You do realize you can dislike and disagree with a certain culture that is proliferated by a race but that does not mean you are racist.

If I was black, I would not let a culture define me as most blacks tend to do.

It is a good gimmick to have for sure if you can live with yourself selling lies like that.  It is damaging though to society in the long run.

The NFL audience are easily played to and highly suggestible.  The "Miracle" myth when it comes to sporting events flourishes.  They can`t understand how a team that might be 0-13 will defeat a Super Bowl winning team that may be 13-0 so it has to be a miracle  ::) of some sort, thus strengthening their already nonsense belief and notion.

In fact, this is part of the reason they watch sports.  They want to justify that the seemingly impossible can happen so they can thus attribute it to a Supernatural cause.  It emboldens their belief.  There is a strong religious element and man worship to all of it.  I find it quite interesting actually.  A great study in mind control.

This where we see complete eye to eye. Verbatuum! I will go as far as saying I can't even be close friends with someone with such ridiculous beliefs.

he would be a better tight end than he would be a QB.

he has no footwork, no accuracy, and no decision making.  But if he locked down for a year to work on speed, hands, etc - yes, he would be functional enough as a tight end to make 3rd string someplace like Jax to sell jerseys.  Small guys without speed can survive in the league.  Keep him to sell jerseys and to get asses in the seat already.

To be fair he's not slow hernandez, welker, gronkowski, and tebow all run 4.6

The Browns should pick him up, if he wins there we might just witness the rising of Jesus  :D

welker a diff position, so he doesn't count.. he's up against 175 pound DBs.

Gronk and hernandez are both taller than tebow by 1-2 inches I think?

He doesn`t hate either.  Thats a silly assertion to make.  You do realize you can dislike and disagree with a certain culture that is proliferated by a race but that does not mean you are racist.

If I was black, I would not let a culture define me as most blacks tend to do.

Every race does it to some extent, especially whites, go to any college in any part of America, for the most part its the same shit: A&F t shirt, undersized worn out baseball hat, gym shorts, north face jackets, the occasional aeropostale accessory, country music and pretty much the same lingo with a few regional distinctions, your problem is that you allow cognitive bias to blind you to this while focusing on the group think of other races.

Not at all.  I don`t wear shorts, cargo pants or anything aeropostale.  I don`t watch football or any of that nonsense and will make fun of the common white beer swilling white moron with a DVD collection full of Vince Vaughn comedies.

Most whites do not like country music so that you probably have to change.  I make fun of all races when there is something to be made fun of.  The problem with whites is that nothing really defines them and they tend to not let anything define them.  Blacks however, want a separate identity and culture so therefore they let that identity define them.

Your first point is an irrelevant conclusion because it is anecdotal, just because you don't fit a certain stereotype it does not mean that most whites don't (I don't fit too many black stereotypes either) , the second part is false, statistics show that most whites in America do like country (yes even more so than pop and rock believe it or not).

Finally, your last point is moot as well, whites do have very common traits and things that they do that are quite stereotypical (stuffwhitepeopledo became an internet sensation simply by pointing them out...) the reality is simple, white stereotypes are the staus quo hence to you it may seem "normal" or "undefinable" but most non whites see it very clearly, furthermore african americans have a distinct culture that defines them simply because it is rooted in the same experience, whites on the other hand cannot be seen as a monolith because they are composed of various groups, Italians, Greeks, irish, English etc, each with their own distinctive traits and habits, I was born and raised in Europe and I have lived in America for almost 10 years and I have seen it countless times, for instance Africans  may come from the same continent but different tribes act differently based on history, its anthropology 101.

1. Your whole point is irrelevant as it is anecdotal.  I would have never suspected any of that bullshit you posted as being "white" or defining anyone who is white.  I thought all of it pure nonsense but was just trying to humor you.

2. Stuff White People do?  Like what?  Earn money, not commit crimes?  What do white people do?  Tell me because I have no idea what in the blue fuck you are talking about.  ???

Little J is black, he, like Jackson, Faarakan, Sharpton and the rest of the left racists, think that all white people are racist. As for Hispanics, my hangout when I was younger was Whittier and East LA so his accusations don't fly even with the dumbest of liberals...like Obama.

I knew you were Hispanic :)

lol being a better tight end than he is a qb isnt much of an accomplishment there...

He wouldnt even make a good back up tight end 240, he is undersized, slow, runs upright and generally too stiff and not athletic to be a pro tight end.

he has the athletics of a qb not a tight end
