Remember the part of Orwell's "1984" where they suddenly switched enemies seemingly for no reason?
All the slogans and propaganda had been along the line of "Oceania is at war with Eurasia. Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia." To suggest things had ever been different was treason, and through "Doublethink" the citizens internalized and bleated this propaganda in every form: Posters, books, magazines, movies, offical records, and so on.
Then suddenly half way through the book the Enemy changed instantly, in a matter of seconds, with no explanation. Now it was "Oceania is at war with Eastasia. Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia." And again, in identical fashion, to suggest things had ever been different was treason, and through "Doublethink" the citizens internalized and bleated this propaganda in every form. Suddenly all the old posters, books, magazines, movies, offical records, and so on proclaiming a different enemy were somme kind of trick, and the citizens reacted vigorously, ripping the posters down, re-writing the archived newspapers, burning the once-orthodox-but-now-hereticial books, and so on. And through doublethink, nobody questioned or even mentioned things had ever been different.
I used to think this was exaggeration or science fiction of a sort. Now witnessing the 180-about face of the US's sudden love for Al Qaeda in Syria, I realize the genius of Orwell went so much deeper than can be fathomed, and that he was describing exactly what we are living through, this very moment.
It makes the hair on my arms stand up.

Not even close to the same analogy here. The enemies in 1984 were not even real.
Whoever wrote this is a moron. They probably don`t even realize that George Orwell was a Socialist and that 1984 is a defense of Socialism and anti-totalitarianism when understood and read properly.

Fake? No..............

No. Fake in the context of the book. The enemies in the book were made up by the Government, meaning there were no enemies just like there was no Emmanuel Goldstein- all creations of the State.
Syria is a very real country. Go back and read 1984.

In terms of Syria being a threat to America, they are a fictional enemy.
