I'm still undecided but leaning toward the position that they saved a diseased system which should have been allowed to eat itself.  The sun would still have come up the next morning.

Whole heartedly agree. Its going to have to happen at some point... the longer we limp on, the more painful it will be when it implodes.

The world wouldn't have ended, but most businesses would've had to drastically downsize or close shop because the credit market would've been non-existent.
