Anyone ever see this sign a lady may hold at a stop light?
I always think, this is God's plan for you...embrace it.
If God gave a shit about you, he'd give you a home and some food....how delusional are people.
Maybe she was trying to appeal to the bible thumpers for some extra cash?
I'm not knocking homeless people at all or less fortunate, but what a contradicting sign.

most aren't homeless but are running a scam...Some of these people make over 50g's a year.

Being suspicious by nature, I find those people standing by the roadside with their signs begging for help suspect. There was one fellow who stood at a particular onramp everyday for several years. He was a young looking guy. Appeared to be healthy. Had a pretty nice bicycle. He always dressed in green clothes. Not sure what that was about. Anyway, seemed to me that begging was his job of choice or he would have found something else to do.
Sometimes you see really old looking people begging for handouts. Did these folks never work in their lives? Are they not eligible for SSI?

It's just a tactic to con religious folks into giving them money. I only give money to bummy-ass, crazy looking beggars. Young, able bodied people can fuck off.

Keep your space. "I can't help you. I CANT HELP YOU". They know that the other 99 out of 100 people they ask will politely help, or decline. The last thing they wanna do is go to jail by harassing the one a-hole who will not allow them to get that close. I've never had a problem since I've been a grown ass man. The firm voice, the hand on back of hip, and the hand extending with the halt sign. Nothing personal, I'd love to share my lunch with the dude... but there's a chance he will get close enough to accept a buck, and stab me. I just don't know. Poeple do some horrible things. I would like to drop a dollar and tell him to retrieve it after I'm gone, maybe. That could work. sorry man, I just dont know you, and I cannot allow you in my space, as I would never violate yours either. Good day.

I use to work in L.A. where a young Mexican kid about 17 stood at the freeway offramp with a sign reading "Vietnam vet out of work. Will work for food or money. God Bless" I am now retired almost 3 years but dropped by the old company to say hi 6 mo.ago. The begger is still there. Now with one crutch and a bandaged foot his sign reads just " God Bless". He must own the biggest house in the neighborhood by now.

I just send them on their way and I go on mine. I am actually okay if they STOP some ten feet from me and ask. I can accept or decline. But when they get 12 inches from your face and ask -Nooooo... scoot back dude... you're in a threatening spot now.

I've actually seen a mother panhandle with her infant baby in her arms.
She didn't look to be on drugs or anything. She was actually young mid 20s, good looking and clean but didn't speak english. Not homeless, most likely. She probably made some decent money panhandling based on amount of people handing over cash in the half hour I saw her.
But honestly, my first reaction when I saw her with her baby asking for money was to call the cops. But then after seeing her and the baby clean and stuff I knew she wasn't homeless. Still wasn't right to be out with her baby asking strangers for money. I tried to ask her if she had a place to stay but she only spoke spanish. Kinda frustrating. I just gave her a few bucks and went on my way feeling sad.

A guy around our area does that, and I took a pic this past summer, he was holding that sign (will work for food, etc) right behind him in the background was a big "help wanted" sign on Burger King...

I never give them money but I offer good training advice and encourage them to muscle up with anabolics.

How many of them are making this much? I am not a bleeding heart, but the reality is not what you suggest it is. A lot of these folks are truly struggling to find a roof over their heads and a bite to eat. I think a lot of folks who don't want to give their hard earned cash to strangers standing pathetically by the roadside with a sign begging for help just want to justify their decision when they make asinine statements like yours.
Just to be clear about this, I don't support beggars either. I have never once given a roadside beggar money. On the other hand, I tip well for services. You can't believe the rewards for doing this. Not only do you feel good leaving the tip, you set yourself up for excellent service in the future.

10 years ago (or so) I was in Boston, walking to a concert venue (club) when a beggar (A-Free-Can) was following me asking for money.
I normally ignore them, but I gave this guy a $5.00 dollar bill. He looked like he hit the damn lottery.
Ran right into the packy to buy some booze...
