Yet is the only team sport where the offense (batter) is all by himself with all the pressure to produce against a pitcher throwing everything possible to strike him out (based on his scouting report).

They threw that game away. Longoria is the only one in that lineup that can hurt them and they pitch to him. So silly. Longoria set up Buchholtz by swinging at a change up where he pretended to be totally fooled. Then sat on an inside change up and put it in the seats. Buchholtz after the game said " its as if Longoria was sitting on that pitch"...No shit dummy, you're to stupid to know when a batter is playing you. Manny use to do this all the time to pitchers...

HAHA So a guy trying to get to  the world series misses a ball on purpose? ::)

You've obviously never played the game in your life. Every hitter is expecting a fastball and then reacts....If your expecting a changeup or curveball you will invariably miss the fast ball. how do you hit the changeup, curveball or slider in the first place? by not missing the fastball.

Stop talking like what you say is 100% of the players doing this as they go to bat. If what you say is true, no one would ever take a call 3rd strike fastball right down the fukcing middle. But it happens often. Why? Answer---They were sitting on something other than the fastball. How can that be if what you say is true?

Manny use to set up pitchers all the time. Curt Shilling confirmed this. Curt said he only knew of a half dozen hitters that would set up pitchers the way Manny did. Manny would sometimes almost fall down from a curve ball like he was totally fooled early in the count only to hit one 400 feet a couple pitches later. And guess what, Joe Maddon(Rays manager) also believes in setting up pitches the way Manny use too. So much so, he wanted Manny on his team a few years back when Manny was Kryptonite. Of course, most batters can't do this. But Longoria has the talent to do so. And some believe he did this with the OCD head case Clay Buchholtz...

The call was correct.

Quote
The rule can be found in the Official Rules of Major League Baseball, Section 2.00, Definition of Terms:

"Obstruction is the act of a fielder who, while not in possession of the ball and not in the act of fielding the ball, impedes the progress of any runner.

"Rule 2.00 (Obstruction) Comment: ... After a fielder has made an attempt to field a ball and missed, he can no longer be in the 'act of fielding' the ball. For example, an infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes him and he continues to lie on the ground and delays the progress of the runner, he very likely has obstructed the runner."

If by definition the call was correct, the rule needs to be changed.  You should have to been in the baseline in order to be interfered with.  Plus, it was incidental contact.  I stand by my story.  That call was BULLSHIT!

Whether contact is intentional or incidental is irrelevant.  The runner is entitled a clear path to the next base.

Out of the baseline?  Lol, ok....

The baseline argument is interesting...Watching guys take a lead off 3rd base could be argued that they are out of the baseline...Whoever started doing that did it so they could not be called out if a ball off the bat hit them because he's in foul ground...Where is the baseline when a runner rounds a base? We've all seen guys go over 10 feet(seemingly) out of the baseline...How about a guy who misses home plate and is walking back to the dugout and realizes he missed the plate so runs back to to touch it?
