That didn't last long: A short time after this Banksy street artwork went up in Red Hook, a longtime hater of the artist defaced the work.

“Peopled booed him,” Alma Aguilera, who photographed the jealous wannabe in the act, told the blog. AnimalNY reports that “Omar” has a long history of defacing projects by the much more famous Banksy.

This Omar character, is it the regular anti social personality disorder, or more serious stuff ?

No skills, no future, only chance to get his 15 minutes of fame (1.2 seconds at a time).

Wether one likes Banksy or not, seeing someone obviously disturbed, so shamelessly destroying another mans superior creation is pretty weird. Its like he is so full of hate and jalousy for someone more talented and famous that he cant control himself.

Creating whatever you want on someone's property is called vandalism. You may be enjoying such art on your own house, I don't.

Wether one likes communist bloc grey buildings or some free spirited street art is not the point in this case.

You should be able to punch people in the head for defacing public property - so long as the punch is videotaped and the tape shows the graffiti taking place.  I dont understand any kind of entitlement "I should be able to spray paint your shit because I'm an artist".

I would crack Leonardo da vinci in the head if I caught him spray painting my front door.

I agree that it's some cool looking stuff.  But the moment we allow enforcement of public graffiti laws to be "whether or not the art is good", things get very subjective, very quickly.

Imagine bloomberg deciding pro-Obama graffiti is allowed, but anti-dem art results in jail time.
