For the past 3 months I've travelled from Sydney to Cairns and trained in quite a few different gyms on the way.
I noticed that there is a huge difference between gyms in Australia and most other places like Germany for example.
In Germany you'll see a bunch of out of shape housewives doing some cardio and weird machine excersises and then lots of twinks/fat dudes doing curls, benchpresses and lots of different rather unproductive isolation movements. In Australia on the other hand the majority of gym goers seem to be in at least decent and quite often very good shape, even the older women. They're all doing lots of squats, deadlifts, cleans&presses and so on. They are really busting their asses and working out the most effective way - with basic compound excersises, heavy weights and a lot of effort and it really is showing. When I enter a random gym in Germany there is usually barely anyone on my level and most people are spending more time on the phone and talking than actually working out... completely different gym culture in Australia. Of course I always tried to find one of the more "hardcore" gyms in Australia and did not go the the really fancy wellness temples but still the difference was clearly noticeable. Another reason why I love that country :-*
Take into account that steroids are a lot more expensive and not as easy to get as for example in Germany where it seems that half of the people in the gym take roids even though they don't look like they've ever touched a weight in their entire life...
Anyone else noticed this? I'm sick of most gyms which is why I prefer to train in my own gym when I'm in Germany.
God bless Australia! (no I'm not a religious nutcase)
-
Yes, I am in Aus and you rarely see out of shape people in the gyms I have gone to.
-
Well I'm in Australia and I look like complete shit.

Yes the joke's on him.

I have noticed the same thing. Many Australians seem in good shape. Not just from a bodybuilding view point. It seems the culture embraces physical activity of all kinds.
In the US there just seems to be to much food. Look in anyone's house and they have enough food to last a month but they go shopping with a cart over flowing every 6 days. In many countries in Europe they seem to buy that night's dinner the same day. The quantities of food available and junk doesn't seem to be there.

gym and the people are fine but the roids are shit expensive. not a good place to bulk or cut. that leaves me with no option but to vote against australia

In defense of the Germans, the weather isn't quite the same unlike Australia. And watch Germany's geograph, no beaches around lol.
I guess you are twice as motivated to train with consistency, when you are "forced" to showcase your body the year around. :D
Same can be said about the west and east coast in the states? Californians on average are much more in the body cult than west coast folks.
On a positive note, you get much more attention in those countries where it's not warm year around. Even if you are not 200+ pounds ripped lol.
Remember Galeniko's stories in Switzerland, where he is seen as god ;D

This isn't too far from where I live.
Police investigate drive-by shootings at Dandenong tattoo parlour and Hallam gym
TENSIONS between rival outlaw motorcycle gangs is believed to be responsible for two shootings in Melbourne.
Police earlier evacuated a wide radius around the scene of a drive-by shooting in Melbourne’s southeast, saying two explosive devices were inside.
The devices — two plastic petrol containers with a separate container filled with shrapnel duct taped to each — were thrown into Nitro Gym in Hallam overnight.
Explosive experts entered the scene and it has now been deemed safe.

In 2007, the World Health Organization (WHO) found that 67.4% of Australian adults are overweight,[1] ranking 21st in the world, and third out of the major countries in the Anglosphere, behind the United States (ranked 9th) and New Zealand (ranked 17th).[1] A 2005 WHO study found that just over 20% of Australian adults are obese,[3] which is expected to rise to roughly 29% in 2010 if current trends continue.[3]
In the 2005 National Health Survey, 53.6% of Australians reported being overweight (above a 25 BMI), with 18% falling into the "obese" category (above a 30 BMI).[5] This is nearly double the reported number from 1995, when 30% of adults were overweight and 11% were obese.[6] Such representations would be skewed downward as people tend to overestimate their height and under-report their weight, the two key criteria to determine a BMI reading.[3] In the National Health Survey, obesity reports were fairly common across the board, with no major outliers. Victoria had the lowest incidence of obesity, at 17.0% of the population, with South Australia reporting the highest numbers at 19.6%.[5]

There are lots of really fat people walking around in Australia but those usually don't go to a gym. I was just talking about those who actually do go to a gym and the majority of them actually looks like they work out.
When looking at the overall population then Aussies are certainly not fitter than most other countries and there are certainly more morbidly obese people down under then in Germany..

Dave 19, much warmer climate effects people & their body images + Australia is much more showoff country than Deutschland.
Or as they say, dress to impress mini skirts/denim shorts are all season dress code here, good for improwing vision.
Gyms etiquette or gym official rules.
Have you trained at Sydney establishments like:John Terilli Broadway gym,Terry Mitsos gym,Paul Graham place,City Gym,PCYC North Sydney, any pro Rugby clubs gyms ?.
Hundreds of other fitness softcock places around, for example from Falcon St,. (PCYC) by Military Rd, to Spit Junction there is around 10-15 gyms on 3-4km of road length , but that's wealthy suburb call Mosman .
I don't think anywhere in the World in 10 minutes slow drive is so many gym's.
Have you try Bondi Beach outdoor gym on weekends ?, almost like Circus de Solei :o Beach culture/lifestyle.
Juice is around, no big deals, easy to get ;)

I'm an Aussie living in Germany. What you say is generally true but i think it's an attitude difference. Germans have a different way of thinking. Aussies who work out (and there are LOTS who don't) do so to look good. I saw this across most age groups.
Germans will do it to 'be healthy' - so a lot of the time, just going through the motions is enough to convince them that they're on the right track. They'll go outside to smoke cigarettes between sets but that doesn't seem to matter to them.
I never trained in a Fitness First type place back home but I'd guess you'd see your fair share of 'casual' trainers there, and you also get some big guys here who take their training very seriously, but for the average gym rat, there seems to be a difference in thinking.

my buddies when I was enlisted in the marine corps said that Australian women were super hot and super easy to pick up. (I knew a few guys that went into port somewhere in Australia.)
evidently the men in Aus dont treat them very well or some shit, so when the Marines were holding doors for them and buy them drinks, the panties were sliding off.

When is was in Australia in the late 70's they were a rugged race, but now the young ones are just weak and pathetic like American kids.

Agreed, Now days the young men look like homos, they style their hair like a woman, they wear make-up and melt down and even a tiny bit of criticism. The problem is, there is a hell of a lot of single mothers, and even those kids that have both parents have essentially absent fathers or are simply disinterested.

E-Kul where do you lift in M. ?, Sammy Ioanidis gym,1 of Dohertys or local PCYC ?

I recently stopped lifting, sick of grinding through chronic injuries. Anyway, I was training at a local gym called busybodies, owned and operated by a raging homosexual. I actually have trained on and off their for over a decade I was their before the current owner (it is a medium sized gym but very cheap), I actually live just around the corner from Neil Gardner's Winning Physique Gym. I have been to Doherty's Gym before in the city, just to buy some tickets to his show, but I have never trained there before, I live in the suburbs and both Dohertys and Sammys gyms are too far away. (about an hours drive one way). From what I remember Tony was a genuine nice guy, really easy to talk too, he gives people he meets for the first time the impression they have been his friend for years.

Aussie blokes do not hold doors or buy drinks to prostitutes. They just pay for services.

Where I come from Australian is code for blacks. Can't say black neighborhood or anything like that so we say...
Gonna be working around the Australians today.
What race was the guy who robbed the store? Australian.
