1993 Olympia. Both at their best.
Although Ray was known for both his ab and leg development, I think Shawn is getting destroyed here. Flex's quads look twice as big as Ray's
Wheeler takes this shot.

It's funny how people harp on about Heath been better than these guys
Not even close and all the talk of heaths conditions do body holders even have abs like that now ... Bodybuilding is at it's WORST

Wheeler everything > Shawn everything

And this is before massive GH and insulin use..so the question that jumps to my mind, is that even necessary?

To be a ripped 295lbs on stage yes it's necessary.
To be a ripped 225lbs on stage it's not necessary.

Flex was on another level compared to Shawn , Flex wasn't as sharp as Shawn from the back particularly in the hams/glutes at this contest because he was warned out from doing all the springs shows , and he still beat Shawn who was pissed.
-
Apparently, Flex was 218 for the 93 Mr. O.

Where did you read that? I've never seen a weight given for him for that contest that seems a little light no?

This was in an interview he had given yrs ago...like 1999.
All the weights that you have seen on video were lies. Like him weighing 235 for NPC contests. Why is it that he never "looked" 235? Because he was never that. Look at the 1993 Ironman, he was fuller and heavier there than he was a week or two later at the 93 Arnold, where he was 216...and he was 215 at the 92 USAs
Another telling bit of info is in the Hardbody video. I believe he is in the posing room and says that he is 220, and needs a tad bit of weight to lose. Charles Glass says that he has a film of water while he is posing.
Also, Flex's visual size is similar to his 97 Arnold weight of 224, but he is visually larger, and less sharper in 97. And he looked similar in size at the 2002 O where he was "natural", and he was over 200 pounds (maybe 220ish, I forgot the weight.

Major reason why bbing had gone to shit, too much emphasis placed on size instead of balance. Not that im saying Shawn was better, but it raises the point that all people care about now is mass.

Very true Do they even have a symmetry round at the O anymore

bber's and their bw's are rarely believed.
when i'm 215 I get "dude, what are you? like 230? 235?"
and when i'm 245 I get "dude, get the fuck outta here, you've gotta be like 230 tops".
biggest disparity was when I cut down to sub-190 and got ppl asking if I was 225... like wtf, look at my fucking face and cheekbones! you could see striations in my jaw and muscles around my eyes and temples! lol... 225 my ass.
lol.. you cannot win. no matter what you say, nobody will believe you.
look at dorian today, weighting 260-265... would I ever guess he weighed 265? hell no.
look at chris cormier in his 'prime years', weighing in the 250's, I wouldn't guess he was over 235.
look at flex... well, bad example, since he was so insecure he lied about his bw all the time... but on the rare occasions he did get on a scale and we got a legit weight, he looked 15lbs heavier (at least).

I laugh when people try to say Kai or Phil are better than these guys

Well take a look at the 212 guys, they all pretty much weigh 205/212 maxing that class and are very short 5'4/5'5. Henry, flex, Jose, correa, etc...
Now do the math for the open class with guys 5'7 to 6 max
Guys like Chris and Dorian both 5'10 were def in the 250's... I use to see Cormier in his prime yrs and he looked it
Jay I believe too, he seems like an honest/laid back guy and there's a vid he filmed prior to the O this yr and he talked about weight and he threw in all the numbers from his npc days and he did say many lie and he even stated he wish they had a weigh in. Said he won nationals in 96 at 240's and said he didn't go up much during his pro yrs saying low 250's was his best

What's funny is that on many of Flex competitive vids like the NPC contests or even in 93, you see his body weight listed as 235...and then in a Flex Mag that I had from like 97, he said he was 227 for a contest, and he looked bigger than he was when he was listed at "235", come on...
Yeah, telling Arnold that he had 23 1/2 inch arms at te Arnold when he was about 216, please...

Bloated ugly physiques mismatch of body parts
All pros except Lionel beyeke
-
shawn has the edge here. better abs, better serratus and better quads.
flex is just taller.

100% agree. Bodybuilding is garbage today.

I read 232 pounds.

He was 232 pounds. I have the 1993 Mr. Olympia on VHS.

And people complained about Tom Platz not having been symmetrical, and he was massively penalized for it, yet guys today are far worse and are winning contests.

I agree. Shawn imo was the better bodybuilder. He never got the respect he deserved. He was 5'6" at a time where most of the pros were 5'9"-5'11" and that's why he stood out.
