Carson: Stop 'Third-Grade' Blame Game
Friday, 18 Oct 2013
By Wanda Carruthers
Calling people names while assessing blame for the government shutdown is a "third-grade" tactic, Dr. Ben Carson told "Fox & Friends."
"I'm very hopeful that, at some point, people will grow up and stop the third-grade tactics of calling people names," Carson said Friday.
Carson, a retired surgery professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, came into the national spotlight after criticizing Obamacare at this year's National Prayer Breakfast, where President Barack Obama was in attendance.
"When we start ascribing blame, I find it quite interesting that a lot of people want to say, 'It's all the Republicans.' But, the fact of the matter is, it was the president and his group who were quite willing to allow the country to go off the cliff in order to protect their pet program," he added.
The Republicans, who "went right up to the brink" during the shutdown, have a message of responsibility for the American people, Carson said.
"The message (is one of) of personal responsibility and fiscal responsibility on behalf of everybody. But also recognizing the Republicans went right up to the brink. They did fight. Most of the time they wilt long before this," he said.
Americans are not each others' enemies, Carson maintained, pointing to the people who wish to divide everybody into "more controllable units."
"We, the American people, are not each other's enemies. The enemies are those people behind the curtain jerking everybody's chains and trying to divide us up by age, by race, by income, by virtually anything they can, because these are more controllable units," he said.
"People, I believe, are waking up," Carson added.

That's all the left does to explain their failures -blame blame blame blame
-
I was talking to a liberal friend about this whole thing yesterday and he actually starting complaining about Ronald Reagan.
-
Of course Republicans don't want people to blame them for the shutdown because it's killing them in the polls
If they were going up in the polls because of the shutdown they wouldn't hesitate to admit the truth
Let's do a quick review
It wasn't a Democratic Senator who filibustered in the Senate and threatened to shutdown the government
It wasn't a handful of Democratic members of Congress who prevented a clean CR from being passed
It wasn't a Democrat who changed the rules of the House so that only Boehner could call a vote
It wasn't a Democratic Speaker who stalled a delayed a vote until the very last minute in an attempt to appease the aforementioned members of Congress
It wasn't a Democratic member of Congress who said about the shutdown that "It's exactly what we wanted” and called the reopening of government "a very sad day"
It wasn't a Democratic member of Congress who said “We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is”
It was not a Democratic member of Congress who said about a possible default that "“I think, personally, it would bring stability to the world markets.”
All of those things were done by Republicans
Republicans own this entire fiasco and EVERYONE knows it
Of course they are in damage control mode but no one is buying their bullshit
It's not the Democratic Members of Congress who are very angry that the government has reopened
-
I was talking to a liberal friend about this whole thing yesterday and he actually starting complaining about Ronald Reagan.
Doesn't surprise me.
Did you see that video where libtards blame Bush for the shutdown? The man has not been in office for 5 years and the roaches are still blaming him.
In 30 years the economy will actually get better and I bet those same libtards will somehow give credit to Obama. It is sad how delusional they are.

you mean the video where the person with the microphone asked them if they blame Bush and only shows you the handful of people who do and not the ones who say they don't
You'd have to be a certified moron to believe that means anything
oh wait, I forgot who I was replying to
carry on

But, the fact of the matter is, it was the president and his group who were quite willing to allow the country to go off the cliff in order to protect their pet program," he added.
The previous 41 repeals aren't enough? you have to threaten economic ruin in order to stop a constitutional law?
The Republicans, who "went right up to the brink" during the shutdown, have a message of responsibility for the American people, Carson said.
"The message (is one of) of personal responsibility and fiscal responsibility on behalf of everybody. But also recognizing the Republicans went right up to the brink. They did fight. Most of the time they wilt long before this," he said.
Fiscal responsibility? 26 billion down the tubes, slowed economic growth and loss of jobs over trying to stop a law that couldn't be stopped by the means they enlisted? Getting the US downgraded by risking default previously? Oh and that personal responsibility of calling this Obama's shutdown.
I get the feeling this guy is religious, is he?

Difficult to read and respond to imbedded text, but yes he's "religious," like the overwhelming majority in America. What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Religious people believe in fairy tales and so do you if you believe this nonsense.

Well it shows that someone can suspend logic and reason for faith, thus he has a tendency to favor belief over facts in some areas. For example there is literally no evidence of god, none, yet he has faith. I am not against people believing in god or an pantheistic organizing force or some shit but I tend to find people with these beliefs tend to let "faith" seep into other areas.
I see religious belief as pretty arcane, is he a young earth creationist?

Makes perfect sense to me. That's the difference between 'knowing' & 'having faith'
Faith is the expectation of, or trust in something for which the evidence has yet to be seen.
eg: I have faith that Soulcrusher is actually an intelligent human being. lol. See how that works? :D
j/k, I think he's really as dumb as a stump! ;)
Seriously jk Chris. I'm picking on you only because I know you have a good sense of humour and can occasionally laugh at yourself.

I have no idea. Maybe you can Google it and find out? I do know he is one of the top and most famous neurosurgeons in history.
But none of that has anything to do with the points he made. He is right. The debate is DC is about on the level of some of the playground rhetoric used by some on this board.
-
Like I said last week
The Repubs OWN this shutdown and if it hadn't harmed them in the polls they would have no problem publicly taking full ownership
The only reason they are trying to pretend otherwise is because of the damage they did to their party
If Repubs don't own it then why is it that it's ONLY Repub members of Congress who were happy when the government was shut down and mad when it reopened
If Repubs don't own this then why is the media asking people like Ted Cruz if they are going to shut down the government AGAIN in a few months
If you need any more proof that this was a Republican owned hostage situation all you need to do is look at the Republican rule change in the house whose SOLE PURPOSE was to prevent a clean CR fro coming to a vote thereby ENSURING a governemnt shutdown
If Repubs want to lie to themselves and pretend they are not to blame that is fine but don't expect the rest of the country to just fall into place and believe such nonsense

god damn you Repubs are fucking idiots
I assume this was supposed to be a Ben Carson friendly story since it was on Faux News
Carson say it's a third grade tactic to assess blame (really? don't we assess blame every day for lots of things?)
so his argument is that it's a third grade tactic to assess blame and then proceeds to tell us we should blame "the president and his group" ?
Hey, the good news is that he also thinks people are waking up
I agree with him on that but just for the same reason

jesus 333 - can't you wait at least a minute before you randomly respond to a post
this thread is about the shutdown and more specifically Ben Carsons apparently insane statements
if you want to make a statement that Obama deems the ACA website issues unacceptable and that the GOP still hates it then start a thread or at least find one that's closer to what the fuck you're posting about

Of course I read it. Including this part: "We, the American people, are not each other's enemies. The above is the republican way of doing politics.
Poor people are leeches. People who want to help anyone other than the filthy rich are commies.
To use the above in defense of the republican party is hypocritical and sad.
It would be like if a Nazi accused his opponents of being anti-semitist.
So in this context his words are utter nonsense.

And what has this got to do with the GOP shutting down the government over a law already in place ???

Wrong across the board. Liberals, led by the president, are the ones constantly trying to divide the country into different demographics. They are the ones preaching and advocating class warfare.
But even if both parties do it, Carson didn’t accuse liberals of doing this. He said “people behind the curtain” are the ones doing it. He’s right. So your attempt to make this a “Republican” opinion piece is factually incorrect.
There is no “Republican” policy that says “poor people are leeches.” Where are you getting that from?
There is no “Republican” policy that says people who want to help anyone other than the filthy rich are “commies.” What specific policies are you talking about in this regard?
Also, conservatives tend to donate more of their time and money to liberals. I think loco and I have both posted articles about this.

The president was responsible for the government shutdown, but that’s neither here nor there. The article, which you claim to have read, is talking about elevating the level of political discussion in this country.

Obama should have taken the deal to delay obamacare for year now seeing what a complete trainwreck it is

Yes and and the only "demographic" the republicans want is white, rich, male, not-gay and christian.

He is not right.
And since more than half the US think its not maybe you are a little slow???

Please if you support the GOP at least stand by their shit.

Thats because you are white and christian. Good people :)

The president was responsible for the government shutdown, but that’s neither here nor there.
Again your country disagrees with you even conservatives with rational thinking.
That alone should set some alarm clocks of in your head.
The article, which you claim to have read, is talking about elevating the level of political discussion in this country.
Make it a point reading all of the articles you post "Mod"
"When we start ascribing blame, I find it quite interesting that a lot of people want to say, 'It's all the Republicans.' Thank you gimmick. Like I said, his opinion piece is about elevating the level if political discourse in this country.

I'm sure you actually believe this Bum but to the rest of the world we see the Repubs as the ones trying to divide the country and this goes all the way back to Lee Atwater
You're in massive denial if you don't know that this has been a Republican strategy for DECADES
You can tell these lies to yourself but don't expect anyone else to believe them
I'm sure you're well aware of Karl Roves strategy of "anger points"
This is a frontline interview from 2007 talking about this strategy that had already been in place for years where they are talking about the "anger point" of Tort Reform
This strategy has continued to the present day and everyone knows it
NARRATOR: Rove now had the political consultant's equivalent of the holy grail, a mailing list of donors. Now his newly-formed direct-mail advertising company would use that list and that money to build a Republican base in Texas.
TOM EDSALL: Direct mail— what you do is look for "anger points," and you try to get what makes somebody angry.
NARRATOR: "Anger points" — Republican consultants' shorthand for hot-button issues — were the other central elements of the direct mail arsenal. And for his candidates, Rove put the anger points together with the kind of battle plan he learned from Lee Atwater: attacking, attacking, attacking. Fifty percent of paid media should be devoted to attack. "If we do not attack, we surrender control of the agenda."
WAYNE SLATER: If there's any single thing that defines a Rove campaign, it's smash-mouth politics. He goes after you hammer and tong. He— attack, attack, attack is sort of the model that he used.
NARRATOR: And in the mid-'80s, Rove found an anger point that could unite voters statewide: tort reform. To Rove, tort reform was a simple story. The elected state supreme court had been bought by wealthy Democratic personal injury lawyers
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/architect/etc/script.html
.
John Stewart paraphrasing from the book called "Building Red America"
During the 2004 election, ol' Captain Retrospectively Obvious set out the GOP's strategy of "activating conservatives' anger points", rather than reaching out to moderates. Anger points like "free health care for illegal immigrants" and "same sex marriage", leading to scenes like this, a sitting United States Senator from Rove's home state of Texas sharing the stage at a rally with this gentleman.

The previous 41 repeals aren't enough? you have to threaten economic ruin in order to stop a constitutional law?

I think you're missing the point
Dr. Carson says blaming people is a third grade tactic (really? so no one is ever to blame for anything) but that the blame for the shutdown belongs to Obama and his "group"
Don't you remember when Obama and his group did all the following:
filibustered in the Senate and threatened to shutdown the government
prevented a clean CR from being passed
changed the rules of the House so that only Boehner could call a vote
delayed a vote in the House until the very last minute in an attempt to appease the aforementioned members of Congress
said about the shutdown that "It's exactly what we wanted” and called the reopening of government "a very sad day"
said “We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is”
said about a possible default that "“I think, personally, it would bring stability to the world markets.”
