I NEVER teach squat with head/eyes looking up.
getbiggers criticize how bad an olympic weightlifting champion's squat form
classic
I teach O-lifts.
Because you "teach" doesn't mean you're any good at it. We get it: You think you are the greatest trainer ever, and your 300$/month gym fees are totally justified. However, this arrogant attitude is very much limiting your ability to progress as a trainer. Every now and then you should keep your mouth shut, especially when it comes to olympic lifting. You just are not very knowledgable about it. ;)

The Coach has produced many Olympic weightlifting champions... oh wait!

In before: "we have 8 14-year olds box squatting 585 and deadlifting 480. What have you ever done?? Jealous hater" ::)

let me preface this by saying i'm not a fan of coach. his politics are laughably stupid and he's pretty up his own ass when it comes to his teaching credentials.
that said, there's a rule in lifting: don't teach the way the best guys do it. the top lifters are the top because they know their bodies flawlessly, and that means doing things that seem on paper "incorrect". chol there also juts his hips to the left on his heavy cleans but you'd be a lunatic not to try and stop younger trainers from doing that.
look at how steve goggins squats with his knees buckled in and bending over like crazy. konstantinovs deadlifts with his back rounded like a caterpillar. there are oly lifters who duck their toes out crazy wide. at that level they and their coaches know EXACTLY how their bodies work. more than that, at the top top top level, they're willing to assume some risk in form if it means grinding another few kilos out on the platform. so you'll get guys doing some pretty shaky stuff under the bar that would get your head bitten off in most classes.
so coach is correct (and I snapped at him initially too). that's a gold medalist and world record holder, but he does that because he and his coach have determined that it's okay for HIM to do it. that's all.

wow 'coach' getting mauled here
he won't recover

Translation: Coach wanted to be a smart ass and it only makes him look like a ignorant douche.
That's what you're saying "MisterMagoo"? (if that even is your real name)

Its cool to hate coach because of his politic views.... however IMHO Joe knows his shir when it comes to training. I have learned much from him.
Of course hes not in the 1% of trainers, but he has a lot of knowledge for the average lifter (read: 99% of us) so maybe we should learn from him instead of try and tear him down 24/7.

Don't forget, the top 10 at the Olympia all ran sub-4.2 times in high school, but decided to roll with bodybuilding due to their love of the iron.
Those darn undiagnosed knee injuries.

My first introduction to the weights was Olympic weightlifting in high school. Me and my school buddy competed a few times in the clean & jerk and the snatch. I still remember the first time we lifted our own bodyweight,we thought we were pretty strong. I weighed 50 kg at the time and my mate was 42kg. When squatting we were taught to look up and keep our eyes fixed on a point about head height or above, we were told this was so we kept our backs straight and didn't lean forward, something you don't want to do with a lot of weight resting on your shoulders.

i pointed out years ago coach doesnt know shit about lifting
he posted a thread like so
"oh man i'm really getting a headache studying all these olympic lifting sequences"
and i said
"if you were a real lifter you would not memorize booklets and get a headache from doing so and then posting about it on a bb forum"
something like that
and he really melted doing further revealing his ignorance and cluelessness
