Maine’s tea party-backed governor suggested during a conservative gathering last week that nearly half the state’s residents who could work do not.
Gov. Paul LePage said he had two points to make last week when he was told the gathering in Falmouth, Maine, was about to end.
His first point consisted only of the word “energy,” but then LePage began sketching out a point about “workplace development.”
“About 47 percent of able-bodied people in the state of Maine don’t work,” LePage said.
One woman in the audience loudly called out, “What?”

He is dead right - I know people myself who only take employment only to go on UE 6 months later or welfare etc.

Just to further your stupidity because you are likely to miss the point in my post. Let's say unemployment is 10% there, now what you are suggesting is 37% of able bodied people are not working, meaning that only 53% of the current population work. He also said able bodied. which further adds to the hilarity.

LePage must have misspoke somewhat. He must only be talking about 47% of the unemployed who need work. The article treats it like it's about the entire state population of people who can work. Big difference. Somewhere these two have to be talking about 2 different things.
