One of the most successful hedge fund managers in the world attributes his success to a daily meditation regimen.
"I've been doing it for 44 years, twice a day for 20 minutes," says Ray Dalio, the guru behind Bridgewater Associates, speaking at Tuesday's NYTimes Dealbook Conference. "It's such a great investment ... more than any other factor in my success. It opens up the two sides of the brain, brings a creativity and open-mindedness." He adds, "It allows you to clear your head and bring an equanimity to everything."
His meditation regimen has inspired other Wall Street celebrities, including Daniel Loeb and New York Times columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin, who said he meditated the night before Tuesday's conference to calm his nerves.
That serenity belied Dalio's comments, in which he predicted future failures and was pessimistic in his view of the world economy: •He would not invest in Bitcoins right now, though he says the idea has "a lot of merit."
•Equities will have a 4 percent return over the next decade
•France is on the verge of being the next basket case of Europe. "As debt rises faster than income, which is continuing in France, there is going to be a rise in debt service payments, and those are going to have a constricting nature on the economy. ... It puts France in the category of southern European countries."
•Though the Fed has done a "masterful job" at providing liquidity in the wake of the financial crisis, Dalio believes that the Fed's emphasis on printing money is "working with consistently decreasing effect."
•He doesn't think that the Fed is going to raise interest rates for at least a few years. "Going forward, most investors are not going to be able to produce alpha," Dalio says, referring to the return of an investment in excess of its comparable benchmark index. He predicts that investors will move to a more balanced portfolio.

Usually every day. Don't have to be still or in absolute quite, to get the affects of meditation. There are walking, running, spoken meditations. TM (meditation 101) is easy & popular, though many, many other type of meditation.
Meditating for profit...why not? Meditating for balance of thought, harmony of mind and body...why not. Top athletes use visualization all the time (including Olympic & PL'ers) which is a form of meditation, as well a strict meditation it's self.
Remembering that meditation has nothing to do with religion or a cult. Some people may not quite understand, or be clear, on that. Meditation is natural, not unnatural.
Kundalini is the method I have been using for years.

If you lay down and meditate that you are lifting weights every day for 1 hour, you should get bigger and stronger in one month.

With his cash flow, should trade her in for a newer model. Too much mileage and I bet the undercarriage leaks.

There is a difference in meditating a little and the athletes concentration zone and meditating a lot with a spiritual desire for liberation. The former can aid a bodybuilder the latter will reveal to him pertinently how the muscle thong en-devour is keeping his mind and soul tied to body consciousness and ego will, stopping him from merging with his eternal formless universal essential nature.

240, this is an interesting post. I can't help seeing a classist angle to it however. When do I have time to fucking meditate? Do I meditate in the garage that reeks of diapers? Do I do the lotus position on a pile of broken toys and wet wipes?

The ultimate developement of ego leads to the absence of ego.

Everyday. I read a couple of morning meditation books to help my brain start going in a decent direction. I get more out of long quiet walks than I do just sitting and quietly reflecting. Something about walking and being outside calms my inner demons.
I have tried the just sitting and relaxing style, I fall asleep every time.
