the newspaper using little kids pics and asking for donations.
where does that money go?
is it morally wrong to not send anything?
-
I send money using UNICEF. You can dictate which country the money goes to or to the general fund where they help the most in need. I usually send to the Syria fund.
-
From people that live there I've heard the corruption is terrible. Most of the money donated will go into the wrong peoples pockets. If you want to help it's best to send money directly to people that you know that live there.

i think i read somewhere that only 30% of the money raised by these types of charities actually goes to the purpose it was meant for, the rest going to 'administration costs'?
that being said, its still 30% more than what they'd normally have.
-
so philipinos are like asian/mexican breed correct?

yeah they use the misery of others to cash in themselves, but its better than nothing.

hm, with syria, does that money go to the assad regime or the cutthroat rebels?
-
Neither I hope. UNICEF buys food and medical supplies and stuff and distributes to children. If I had family I was in contact with there I would send directly to them but I don't. My friend is from Philippines his dad sends a lot of money back there to put cousins through college etc. not sure if his family was harmed by the hurricane.
That graphic is a little misleading but I don't want to write an essay to explain.

I usually bet money on Pacquiao and just sort of figure that a few bucks eventually makes it's way down to the homeless in Manilla.

The federal government sends that money for you from your tax dollars if you think about it
-
As previously pointed out, the Federal Government sends enough aid as it is.
Odd that when a disaster hits the US, nobody gives a Mr. Hanky about our citizens. I think that India once sent a couple of bags of rice as a token but I could be wrong.

I would ONLY donate (and I already did last week) to the RED CROSS, when I was fighting in former Yugoslavia they were the ONLY organization other than the United Nations that I saw helping out, period!!!
**** RED CROSS RESPONSE TO HURRICANE KATERINA-(Red Cross and Red Crescent): Sent more than 80 disaster experts. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies launched the largest mobilisation of resources for a single natural disaster, including the recruitment of 1,900 staff and volunteers. All available resources were moved to safe areas so relief efforts could begin immediately after the storm passed. More than 250 emergency response vehicles (ERVs) and countless other Red Cross resources were sent to provide hot meals, snacks, bottled water and distribute other much-needed relief supplies. The Red Cross opened shelters in support of the massive evacuations in all affected states. As of Monday, 29 August, some 230 Red Cross shelters had been opened in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas, housing over 40,000 people. In coordination with the Southern Baptists, preparations have been made to provide more than 500,000 hot meals each day.[55]

I have learned that there is NO such thing as charity. Usually a smaller or bigger scale scam.

Oh the Media wouldn't push this for so long if they didn't make money out of it. Probably get cuts here and there.
