Born and raised in the south, still managed to rise to the top of my profession. Of course, with mom from the Midwest and dad from Europe, I never managed to have a southern accent, more of a flat, unknown accent. My "southern" only comes out if I am drinking with other good ol boys, otherwise, it stays hidden.
Underestimate southerners to your own detriment. We may talk funny, but we ain't stupid.

Northern people always feel superior to southern people. It's a fact. Being on top gives people this God-given sense of power that really does not exist.

True in Thailand. Southern Thai people are looked upon as kind of crude and maybe even dangerous. My wife is from a southern province, Nakhon Si Thammarat. Here in the USA, when she gets to know Thai people from Bangkok or Northern Thailand they always ask her if her family is in the Mafia. (I tell her she should say "no comment", lol)

Here in Texas we think it's kinda comical considering we have the 14 largest economy in the world. Other places often make fun of the state of our education system but what they don't realize is we share the longest section of border with Mexico thus we end up with about 15% of students in some schools completely unable to speak English or even read Spanish. So the numbers are screwed at best. Look at the economical state of New York or California or Illinois, they are fucked now tell me who you think is smarter.

Southerners, to whom I am connected genealogically and culturally, are on one hand, the salt of the earth while also being some of the least sophisticated people I've ever met. Granted, there were and are large segments of educated Southerners with a very sophisticated and high level of culture but the majority, those to whom I am descended, were poor, illiterate, uneducated rabble.

uneducated in what's called the social norm maybe but these are the same people that are highly educated in the art of surviving, for instance how many people from these thriving northern metropolis know how to say clean a fish, deer, hog or cattle for that matter. How many could make there own soap, or know you can make your own soap from wild hogs. Or more common , simple things like knowing to cut winter wood a year ahead of time or what type of trees to use as fence post ( cedar) . The point I'm trying to make is that it's not that were my intelligent, we just are in a different way and are frowned upon because of an accent.

Very good post, man. I totally, agree. I appreciate and respect southern hospitality and gentility. And yes, I have been to Boston and encountered Southies in their natural (often drunken) habitat. Same Irish rabble stock in Boston that you see in the south.

I've been all over the world and people are stupid everywhere...there are some exceptions though..Arkansas is piss poor in the the education department..you need a translator there too..,but ive been to parts of Boston and felt the same way...it all evens out

I was going to say something similar. Seems most from the south are much better when it also comes to personal finances and like here in California or NY, etc don't feel the need to keep up with the Jones'. I know they're just reality shows but if you take the people from Real Housewives who fight for acceptance and feel the need for expensive cars, jewelry and so on as opposed to Duck Dynasty (who are also wealthy) that is satisfied with a truck then you have to ask yourself who the dumb ones are.

In my opinion there is little to no difference between peeps from the north and the south. I spent some 50 years traveling this land on business. I have lived for short periods in New England, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, Columbis SC, and Miami. Northern peeps hide their various prejudice better than southerners….its still the same.
In the north they tend to speak as the Brits call it…NBC english. This is NOT a sign of intellect.
Its like a joke I heard as a kid….A New Jersey mafia boss sends his foul speaking daughter to a finishing school in London. When she got back he asked her what she learned. "I now say that's lovely instead of 'bullshit' ".

I don't care for it. I live near the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port. The nation receives 25% of its oil through this one port and Louisiana is still treated as though we have nothing to offer. People think its just a place to get loaded for Mardi Gras.

I have actually grown more proud of being southern as Ive aged. At 18 I thought it was a negative thing, then went to a military school in Mass and my eyes were opened to a whole world of dumbassness white trash. Then after yrs in the military you realize there are dipshits and decent people from almost everywhere.
I even tried to tone down my accent back in the but then I realized that most women love it. I dated a girl from Cali and found out later her roommate would run to the phone to just hear me talk.
Andine gets way thicker after a few brews. 8)

Personally, I'm college-educated, wear a suit to work every day, and make a very good living investing people's money for them. I can explain very well in my southern accent what I do with inestment dollars that makes my strategies better than most others', and I always have a very good answer to any question, request for more information, or realistic and rational objection I'm given.
