i'm now finally training everything including legs and abs (but still no calf training)
anyways, i'm trying to decide if i should throw in some forearm training
i do deads (but i use straps) and barbell curls but i'm still not sure if my forearms aren't getting enough stimulation from barbell curls and strapped on deads ???
-
Only ever for outer/upper forearm. Hammer curl reverse curl ext.
I dont like straps so inner forearm gets enough work from deads and rows and shrugs ect.
A few things that worked for me
I like to start a cycle of deadlifts double overhand and switch to mixed only when bar gets impossible to hold on to.
At end of last set of deads hold top position till grip starts to fail.

Been doing a little bit lately, can't say I've really done it religiously at any point.
I keep it pretty basic though, just do heavy hammer curls (for bi's, just so happens to hit forearms too) and then behind the back wrist curls. Sometimes i'll swap out the wrist curls with reverse preacher curls, which seems to hit the brachioradialis (top of the forearm) pretty hard.

Don't laugh but I sometime pull my lower forearm muscle. ;D I have been pulling it for years doing random shit. Really annoying. Last time pulled it doing SLDLs ...had to use straps for 2 plates lol. Guess I gotta stretch them and work them out. Upper forearms get worked doing hammer curls so I think they are fine.

i never wear straps... i use wrist rollers (i have a standard size one and a big one, both homemade with pvc), do hammer curls and reverse curls...
dj181, my forearms are also as big as your upper arms
oh and i also have and use grippers... i train forearms directly 4 days per week and indirectly daily

I see some dudes with forearms bigger than their upper arm. I admit I get hella jelly.

Popeye had some big forearms he ate Spinach every single day. I'll start today.

My gym has a rope pulldown machine that's great for forearms.

Yes they are a good exercise dont mention that to soul crusher he will be doing them 15 hours a day.

Might suggest
BB reverse curls with a thumbless (thumbs over, rather than under) the bar. Going thumbless with Dl's & chins also works well. Reverse BB curls are an excellent bicep builder, thumbless or not.
BB finger curls. Sitting, have the elbows/forearms resting on the legs, just curl a BB from the finger tips to a full grip contraction. Lower the bar down agin to finger tip position and repeat. Tend for higher reps fpr forearm work. Some do this with a Db, which may require more attention to balance.
For the whole of the forearm, a rope wrist roller (easy to make your self). Might try standing on a bench/box/ chair to allow a greater distance for the weight on the end to travel. Going to love the burn and the results gained. Raise fairly fast and lower rather slowly.
Many other strict forearm exercises to be considered. Pick one you think is best for your needs. Good Luck.

just holding weights doesn't do dick for my forearms , I never use straps and do a ton of volume with heavy weights for back.. yet my forearms are pathetic. Thanks mom and dad.
most of my curling is hammer-curl since I don't want to ever tear a bicep and still they barely look trained :(
like calves I think it's 95% genetic

I fashioned one out of 3 in. PVC pipe.
It's tough to hold onto, and the pump is insane with the lightest of weight.

Other than hammer curls no. But never use straps, do farmer's walks, and rope pulls, and rope pull up seem to have worked.
Next hom purchase will probably be these for sled pulls and pullups, etc:

I vary up forearm work, adding in one of the following on bicep days: wrist curls, hammer curls, pinwheel db curls
and just for fun, I'll add in a single finishing set of: reverse wrist curls and reverse barbell curl superset or some wrist roller work, both over and underhand
I don't use straps for anything except occasionally on really heavy deads or on those days we're doing super-high rep set to failure of 135lb deads
