Getbig Wizards, Exercise Physiologists, Kinesiology Experts, Chiropractors, do you have any tips for better posture while sitting. I routinely find myself hunched over, shrugging shoulders, scrunched up sometimes, bent a bit at the waist with a rounded back which de-emphasizes the abs from stabilizing in the sitting position and transfers all to the lower back. Sometimes I try to make a concious effort to sit straight, but it always fails. Sub-consciously I always go back to the hunch position or a variant.
Any tips or videos to help proper sitting posture and how to maintain it?

I just watched the first minute of this video where it says your hips need to be higher than your knees while sitting, so I grabbed a pillow and put it under me. It was like an instant correction and it felt so much better. Pretty amazing actually.

Its really not. If you have average proportions, such as yourself, it may be. I have unusually long legs and arms for my height due to being Ashkenazi, maybe even a little Marfan going on. You, on the other hand, are just your average stock and probably fit in any chair you sit in and have never had to think about correcting yourself.
It can get really bad for me actually and I am really amazed at something as simple as keeping my hips higher than my butt corrects everything. I am sure it will benefit Falcon when he sees this as well.

Most GBr's couldn't give you advice for better posture while sitting.
....the right posture while on their knees...well that's a whole different story.

I ditched my desk chair for a stability ball. No more back pain and forces me to sit up straight.

I have long arms for my height too. Heres a tip. When you sit down, get comfortable. As soon as you start feeling a bit uncomfortable, adjust your position. Repeat as necessary ;D

I have never had any back problems or anything but my sitting posture has been so messed up for years and years. I still can`t believe the solution was something as simple as raising the hips.

I think you are hunching a little because of years of habitual bending over.

No. Its my leg and torso proportions. So far I have not hunched one single time since I raised my hips. I can breathe so much better, I Don`t feel fatigued at the computer, I feel no pressure while sitting and my shoulders are really relaxed and not tight and tense as they usually would be.

When I diet and am in shape or look good, I have much better posture... am much more aware of it.

In the military they just said to position your neck attentively (not dropping forward) and maintain a tight core...

I would never try to stand in for the Falcon because that would be akin to a high school music teacher standing in for Beethoven, but I will try to help. I have a kick ass chair at work that has that mesh lumbar support stuff for the backing. It forces me to sit in a proper position. Both feet flat on the floor, shoulders back and head straight ahead. If you can afford one get one or just get the lumbar support mesh. Works wonders for me.

Thinking that your posture affects how your lower back feels is a fallacy. It's TMS that's causing your symptoms.

set your laptop on top of something and stand while your browsing the net. standing will build more bone density than sitting, standing teaches better posture. no one can argue sitting is better than standing
