I think Jim is best suited to answer this question as he has vast experience in training many pros and getting them in contest shape.

Seriously, Jim knows his shit and can probably help me lose these stubborn 15 pounds of mine.

Thanks, the main thing that I guess that separated me from others is the diet and contest peaking. The latter is seems to be not so easy, but I am not sure why. You can bet that most guys miss their peak and you can never really count on them to come in looking their best. I think that most rely too damn much on drugs. It's mostly diet and when you get down to single digits it gets tough and sometimes people need help keeping their head on straight or keeping the progress going. Getting dry is also a problem for most.

All I know is at the Dexter Classic all I ever saw Dexter doing was sitting around munching on some plain ass chicken and rice in a tupper ware the whole time. The night before the show at sign up, and pre/contest time. This was about 1-2 months before the Olympia.

sometimes ppl need a motivator to go through the dieting and the insecurities arise, even the best need tips at times

Absolutely I agree but my point is that these gurus are salesmen and they get business by making promises.

well, yeah, but theres so many questions arising come contest time.

carb up yes or no

water loading, diuretics, yes or no, ehich kind of diuretic, what pattern of use,what NOT to eat at all cost when using diuretics

i dont think theyre ped salesmen to their wathletes,they might suggest what to use when to come off,etc.

then the athlete can give away the learned stuff in seminars to other ppl etc etc.

it goes from top to down, the top athletes or gurus have nothing to learn from bottom barrel gymrats like me :D

I would think the biggest benefit of a good coach would be at contest time.  Off season is important too or you end up developing full blown Swoliosis.  But the real critical time is precontest.  There is some video of Jason Cutler earlier on where he meets with Chad Nichols and he critiques the diet for the week and has him pose to see any changes.  This kind of help would be valuable.  Looking in the mirror at yourself you don't see what an experienced coach might see.

The PED info is probably what most bb's go to a coach for.  They want someone who has experience in taking a bb all the way through to a show and preferably WINNING THE SHOW.  The coaches that have done this are the ones that get all the clients.  Nicols, Farah, Palumbo/.  These guys have proven track records.  It's basically about letting someone else worry about all those details and letting the bb physically do the work.

Who ever says diet has nothing to do with bodybuilding? Seriously.

Listen close...

Diet = 90%
Sleep = 9%
What you do in the gym = 1%

This is why you will guys who train like queers still get big.

I just realized... Is this another "calorie is a calorie" nonsense thread?

If so, you said bodybuilding. That doesn't apply.

If your 500 lbs. and go from eating 4 pizzas a day to 2, then yes you will lose weight while still eating pizza. So in this case a calorie is a calorie.

But when getting ready for a contest the type of calorie matters and like I said diet is 90%.
