Not really going out on a limb w/ that prediction.

Well though a deserved loss for being a showoff, people think this rematch will result in the same result. Like Silva all of a sudden got old.

No.

No.

I agree.  Weidman has the style to beat Silva because wrestling is BJJ kryptonite.

But I see Silva avenging this loss setting up a 3rd fight.

I think it should be a great fight.  People forget Weidman was coming off shoulder surgery after suffering a torn labrum, his home had been destroyed by Hurricane Sandy and he didn't have his cornerman for the last fight.  He was also pretty much broke.

Silva will be ready and so will Weidman.

How is he overrated? Please tell me who he didn't fight in his classes. The dude is still the best all time. Jon Jones has the ability to be the best all time if beats Gustovsen in the rematch and if he were to somehow beat Velezuez (Never gonna happen) in heavyweight.

I can't even make a prediction here. I know Silva has very fast striking and he can catch Weidman if he doesn't defend himself. Silva has never been with a wrestler of this caliber. Weidman can punch but he doesn't have the speed in striking of Silva. Can't wait for this one.

Sonnen is from West Linn, Oregon and began wrestling from a young age. After graduating from West Linn High School where he was a state runner-up, Sonnen attended Brigham Young University before transferring to the University of Oregon when BYU began considering cutting their wrestling program. At Oregon, Sonnen earned All-American honors, was a two-time PAC 10 runner-up, was a silver medalist at the 2000 Greco-Roman World University Championships, and was a two-time Dave Schultz Memorial Institutional Greco-Roman winner.

Chris Weidman was born in Baldwin, New York, the second of three children. He and his older brother were involved in numerous athletic activities. Chris started wrestling at a very young age. With his natural athleticism he mastered the sport very quickly. He attended Baldwin Senior High School on Long Island where he was a Nassau County and New York state wrestling champion. He was an All-American in Cadet Freestyle and Greco Roman.

A standout in college, he earned All-American wrestling honors twice at NCC before transferring to Hofstra. He became the first junior college wrestler in history to be a NYS Collegiate Champion. At Hofstra, he became a two-time Division I All-American, placing 3rd at the NCAA tournament his senior year. Weidman graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.

Yeah. He was screaming and said fuck this. I am done. I am too old to be doing this shit. I totally understand him. He is almost 40. He had his time as king. NO need to be getting destroyed shins at this stage in his life. To continue, is to keep chasing what you will NEVER catch... your youth... you can try, but you will NOT be 20 again...

I really feel sad for Anderson.... he had his window... his best and only chance, was to catch Chris at that bad moment (Chris shoulder, personal problems, etc)... he should have gone in there and NOT played games... do what GSP just did against JH... your last bout, be serious, give it 1,000%

I would be happy to see GSP stay retired... left on his own terms... NO one cheats death. NO one cheats old age.

Leg kicks man! I've been saying this shit all along: Hit the legs!

Guys with no calves will break their legs in a heartbeat. They hate it when you hit them in the legs.

This is exactly what they have to do to Jones and he will also break.

Anderson is not recovering from this one. His career is over.

I'm telling you, if you're a half decent coach and if your fighter is going to fight Jones, have him train leg kicks and defense 24/7.

I till can't fucking understand how, to this day, people can't put two and two together: Small legs/calves + hard kick = trouble. The reason is simple: the knee has bones that are twice as hard as the shin. If you hit the bottom part of the femur or the top of the tibia with the shin, you're asking for trouble, especially if you are Silva or Jones.

I'm telling you Jones is next.

What's really impressive is that Weidman can actually tell his grand kids he fucked up the greatest pound for pound fighter in the history of the sport.

Even without the injury, Weidman had Silva cornered. I actually think Anderson was going to get knocked out.

That kid has some serious power.

You need thick lower legs and shins of steel,

Horrific injury.

This will require an ExFix for a week and then serious surgery, not to mention a full year, at the very least, to obtain civilian recovery.

All you heard about the first fight was how silva lost because he was clowning around and didn't take the fight seriously.  This fight it's all about the injury.

They'll talk as much as they want, but the kid had Anderson beat in that first round. He had him hurt midway through with a right hook to the back of the ear that put Anderson to sleep for a few seconds.

As much as I like Anderson, the kid is the real deal and more than likely would have won at the pace he was going.

Now, I look forward to the Belfort vs Weidman fight.

Two flukes or not... Chris is Anderson daddy. Just the way it goes. Every bird has it's falcon is a latin saying. Super Man has that green shit... Anderson has Chris. Time to hang them up no matter what. Anderson just retired. I have it on text.

Who texted you that?

Oh I agree but you know how fight journalist and nutuggers can be. I hope they give this kid his due.  It was obvious another good shot and silva would be out but then again it's silva and he could have pulled out a victory.

You wanna see elite Wrestling?

Watch the Olympics.

Great submission grappling?

Check out the ADCC championships.

Fantastic hands?

Stick to boxing

Elite level standup?

Lower weight classes in K1 or Authentic Muay Thai fights.

The UFC's current wrestler friendly rules mean that any strong wrestler with average boxing and decent submission defense are able to grind out weak ground and pound decision victories.

MMA standup is a joke more often than not. All you gotta do is land a Spinning backfist or a telegraphed head kick and Joe Rogan will cream his pants with such phrases as "Nasty striker, vicious on his feet, That guy hits HARD, K-1 Level striking" etc.

It's a circus with a bunch of jack of all trade clowns....

Maya: No, I- I like to think about the life of wine.

Miles Raymond: Yeah.

Maya: How it's a living thing. I like to think about what was going on the year the grapes were growing; how the sun was shining; if it rained. I like to think about all the people, who tended and picked the grapes. And if it's an old wine, how many of them must be dead by now. I like how wine continues to evolve, like if I opened a bottle of wine today, it would taste different than if I'd opened it on any other day, because a bottle of wine is actually alive. And it's constantly evolving, and gaining complexity. That is, until it peaks, like your '61. And then it begins, its steady, inevitable decline.

Miles Raymond: Hmmm.

Maya: And it tastes so fucking good.

odd that the tibia and fibula both break??   the fibula is a thick strong bone, and for the most part is undamaged because the tibia takes all the impacts.   so you would think it would maintain integrity during a tibia break.

Now Chris has broke Silva both physically and mentally.

This can easily happen in modern sports, because the athletes have taking the training to a whole different level. With the help of supplements and sometimes drugs they train for hours and hours every day which in time will drain the body. Add to that weight cuts of fighting and it weakens the body even more.

You could not be more right and the indicator was what happened to his toe.

I'm telling you, I've been saying this all these years (check my comments on MMA), from the very beginning: Jones and Silva could be easily beaten with a very solid leg game.

Structurally speaking, Jones is even worst than Silva: His muscle-less lower legs have to support 95% of his weight (compared to a Cro Cop, who was more like 90%, and a lot more muscle than Jones).

Take out his legs, immediately, and he's toast.

I think Dana is nervous with GSP gone.... and now Anderson gone. He sought out Brock to get back a guy who can sell tickets & PPV's.

If Brock is back. He seriously needs a need group of trainers. I'd like to see Brock hire Bas Rutten.

Holy shit, the more I look at the gif of Anderson breaking his leg... It looks to me like it was shin to shin contact. The only difference is that Silva's anterior muscle was fully flexed, while Chris' calf was not.

I honestly can't understand how he made it this far in MMA. He's built for boxing, not MMA.
Title: Re: Chris Weidman is one Tough Mf!

Other thing is - even with a good hit where you don't break your own leg - what good does a lower leg kick do?

A hard kick to the meaty outer thigh has your opponent hopping on one leg. Sure - a kick to the lower leg is painful but with all the adrenalin running during a fight - you don't feel that sort of pain till the fight is over.

Yes, but you're always going to have pain after a fight. It may be your upper or lower body, but something is going to hurt.

With leg kicks it's all about timing and point of contact. Good leg defense, the sort you see at Muay Thai, is the one that welcomes legs to the outer or inner part of the leg with your knee. Trust me, if the other guy hits you in the knee once, he will not try that kick again. Hence his leg offense will either switch to the upper body or stop altogether. If the leg offense goes to the upper body, welcome the kicks with your elbow to the shin. Your elbow IS NOT going to break. Good offense means knowing when to kick effectively, which takes a lot of time to master.

CroCop was a good example of how effective good leg skills can be (defense and offense): Dude was knocking the fuck out of people twice his weight (Sapp,) which makes it the more bizarre how fighters did not and do not even try to go down that road.

If you can fare better against two strange pitbulls, I would be interested in seeing that. Amazing how many tough guys think they can beat pitbulls, yet none I have ever met are willing to do so. I have had my fair share of fights, including against several opponents, no man comes close to determined fighting breeds of dog like pitbulls.

And aren't you the one who tortured innocent animals for kicks when you were a kid.  I highly doubt such a coward is some type of tough man.

couple thoughts.

1. people are funny talking about leg training and all that shit. like if he had some extra muscle on his calf that would have made any fucking difference when he hit the front of his damn shin. you can tell this is a bodybuilding board, no one can think beyond "MORE MUSCLE"

2. shin breaks ALWAYS happen to the guy doing the kicking and it's really not hard to figure out why. that leg is moving, and when it hits a hard object the foot still has all that momentum behind it. look up every single shin break in a kickboxing match or whatever. it's the dude throwing the kick every time, and it's not something that can get prevented by doing more calf raises. ::)

3. brock is done. after two surgeries on his gut he just can't be the guy. if he still had all his intestines, sure, but not now. shows how desperate dana is.

I could , both would have .45 hollow points in their skulls. But you being against personal firearms ownage let the pitts rape you.  ::)

My personal opinion on firearms is moot.  I live in a country that doesn't allow firearms for personal protection.  Secondly, pitbulls hide their attack until the last moment, so the first assault was the one that severed my Achilles tendon.  Thirdly, there have been instances of pitbulls not being stopped by gunshot, and lastly, they aren't always easy to hit when they are darting about looking for their next strikezone on a human target, I recall a case where a police officer shot his partner when trying to shoot a pitbull.

Fourthly, stop making fun of me, if the world operated the way I think it should I never would have been injured in the first place as all pits would be put to death, and everyone would live happily ever after except the muslims who would all be beheaded.

People can make fun all they like, I have lost count of how many keyboard warriors I meet  when discussing pitbulls.  Discussions on pitbulls will always attract the most insecure types, people with serious psychological issues.  It is to be expected.  And this ridiculous assertion I want all pitbull put to death is ridiculous, you do realise under the paradigm you support nearly a million pitbulls are being killed each year.  The genocide has started, and it was started by those who promote the breed.  I believe in  grandfathering the breed out of existence, this means mandatory sterilisation and yes breed bans, that way in a generation there won't be any pitbulls.  There is a good reason you don't hear of pet bear, lion and tiger attacks in suburbia, this has something to do with ownership of such animals is either heavily restricted or prohibited.

I look forward to your generic propaganda about the breed, that even though they regularly maim maul and kill children they are the ideal Nanny, and it's all how you raise them, and that even though they were historically and still are purposefully bred to be the ultimate fighting breed of dog, that genetics don't matter.  Breed specific behaviour such as Pointing in Pointers, or nipping the heels of livestock in Heelers is acknowledged with all other breeds but Pitbulls. Why is that?

Whatever makes you feel better.  Feel free to set up a videotape when you have the courage to back up your claims. Like I said, I meet tough guys all the time who think they could fight a strangers pitbulls and win, NEVER have I met one who was prepared to do so.  You could be the first, I am sure your bout would attract a lot of interest.  I dare say you could make some money of it.  But I doubt you are serious, it sounds like the usual bluster and bravado typical of those who either overestimate their own abilities or they underestimate the abilities of dedicated pitbulls.  I dare say, your over reliance on Guns has created a false sense of security and an overestimation of your own abilities.

You're all over the place like a woman on her period. I would NOT willingly go fight pittbulls just for fun or bravado , how you came to this conclusion who knows. I said I would have fared better than you. I may have had gotten injured but both dogs would be dead and if I had any rounds left I would be looking for their owner.

Well, generally when a man makes a bold claim, it is considered hot air unless he actually has the balls to back his claim up. Something you obviously don't have. Both dogs are dead, and had I shot the owner I would be in jail for a long time.  Your way of dealing with conflict can only be detrimental to yourself, let's hope you don't face any serious conflict any time soon.

Suggesting I hate or resent pitbulls is ridiculous.  Do you hate lion or tigers?  Would you consider anybody who opposed legislation allowing citizens to own them as pets as people who hate wild cats.  Your reasoning is akin to saying anyone who supports drink driving laws as someone who hates drunk drivers.  I feel sorry for the breed, thanks to those who claim to love them it has become the most destroyed dog on the planet.  With friends like that, the pitbull needn't worry about those who oppose it being kept as a companion animal.  TRUE dog lovers won't be concerned about a BREED BAN, because their will always be a mutt to rescue from the pound.  Sadly, people attracted to pitbull aren't dog lovers, they have ulterior motives for wanting to own the breed.

Well, if we are gauging by posts, yours wreak of a desperately insecure man determined to promote himself as a tough guy.  The real tough guys rarely act like that.  I have no need to sell myself as a tough guy, I know what I am capable of, what I have done in the past and what my limits are.  The fact you feel a need to suggest you could easily slap the shit out of me says a lot about you, this is the Internet, and such proclamations are signs that I have either caused you serious butthurt with my posts or you are just deeply insecure.  I suggest it is a combination of the two.  Anytime someone makes these tough guy statements when the possibility of either persons meeting let alone fighting is incredibly remote is the realm of fools.

I often shake my head thinking about why I am a member of this board.

I'll throw in my two cents about handguns. It's something I have a lot of experience with.   Shooting at a stationary 5 or 50 yard target is not the same as a real life. In real life most of the time your target is moving. You could be moving at the same time. If I had a target on some kind of rig I could move at five yards there would be a lot of misses by even experienced shooters. If you are shooting you are fearful for your life. Most are not going to have a calm heart beat and concentration necessary for hits. Most untrained will spray bullets as rapidly as possible in the general direction when the chips are down hoping for a hit on target. Hitting an attacking dog is not as easy as one would think especially if you don't have your gun out until you are attacked. A Pit bull can bite off your fingers like they are crackers. Actually a guy with a knife in hand who is 5 yards away is in a better position for a kill than a guy with a holstered gun with minimal training.

Agreed, I bust your balls and you play the tough guy act.  Got it. And funny that, I find Getbig's pitbull Nutters the biggest pack of whiny bitches I have ever met in my life.  Any man who cries like a little girl because a grown man criticises the type of animal he chooses as a companion pet is pathetic in my book.  Me recalling that I experienced a leg injury inflicted by a pitbull was enough to bring out Getbigs crybabies and hijack their thread.  And you come across as someone who is terrified of opinions that are polar opposite to yours.  You constantly bitch and moan whenever someone says anything you don't like.  You might like to trying to argue your point of view rather than playing the tough guy act.

couple thoughts.

1. people are funny talking about leg training and all that shit. like if he had some extra muscle on his calf that would have made any fucking difference when he hit the front of his damn shin. you can tell this is a bodybuilding board, no one can think beyond "MORE MUSCLE"

2. shin breaks ALWAYS happen to the guy doing the kicking and it's really not hard to figure out why. that leg is moving, and when it hits a hard object the foot still has all that momentum behind it. look up every single shin break in a kickboxing match or whatever. it's the dude throwing the kick every time, and it's not something that can get prevented by doing more calf raises. ::)

3. brock is done. after two surgeries on his gut he just can't be the guy. if he still had all his intestines, sure, but not now. shows how desperate dana is.

If you're talking about my comment... Looking at your response I'd say it went right through you.

Read mofo, read.

odd that the tibia and fibula both break??   the fibula is a thick strong bone, and for the most part is undamaged because the tibia takes all the impacts.   so you would think it would maintain integrity during a tibia break.

I wasn't positive the fib was broken too- bones can flex like crazy when needed. It was.

“Following Saturday evening’s UFC 168 main event, former champion Anderson Silva was taken to a local Las Vegas hospital where he underwent surgery to repair a broken left leg. The successful surgery, performed by Dr. Steven Sanders, the UFC’s orthopedic surgeon, inserted an intramedullary rod into Anderson’s left tibia. The broken fibula was stabilized and does not require a separate surgery. Anderson will remain in the hospital for a short while, but no additional surgery is scheduled at this time. Recovery time for such injuries may vary between three and six months. Anderson is deeply touched by the outpouring of support from his fans and the entire MMA community. There has been no immediate decision about his future, and he would kindly ask for privacy at this time as he deals with his injury and prepares to return home to recover.”

I'm not tough at all. Your first mistake is thinking of pitbulls as "strange". If you go to the African savanah, do you pet the lions? No. Why? Because you know full well that it's in their nature to want to kill you. It's not about being "tough", it's about using common sense. And, if the pitbulls happen to try to attack you while you're in your car, run the fucking car over them!

I did not torture anything, I took passive part in acts that can be described as "cruelty to animals".  This I admit to.

Horrific injury.

This will require an ExFix for a week and then serious surgery, not to mention a full year, at the very least, to obtain civilian recovery.

I saw this movie "wanted" with angela jolie.  they dipped a person in this white cell rance dressing, and bones were healed in 2 days.  Silva should try that.

"Never had a contract with Matt, don't have one today, and never will.

The same thing with Chris," Longo said.

"If Matt never paid me, I'm not changing a thing.

That wouldn't have meant any thing.

That's not what I was doing it for.

I was doing it because I liked the guy.

I wanted to see him succeed.

It's nice watching other people succeed, and you have something to do with it.

Then the very essence, by extension, you succeeded.

What's better than that?"

Ray teaches most of New York. Who got him? Serra? Renzo?

No one has Ray. Ray has his own MMA academy out in Garden City, NY. He and Weidman recently have partnered up and opened their own MMA gym.

Serra has his own gyms (2 of them) out in Long island.

Renzo has his own academy in the heart of Manhattan (where I've been a member now for over 9 years). Renzo also has a long list of affiliate sites all over New York State (over 15 I think). At Renzo's we have a full fight camp and many fighters come over to spend their last month training at the academy. Georges St. Pierre, Chris Weidman, Frank Mir and Frankie Edgar all have done their full camps at Renzo's in the past. Weidman spent over 2 months training with John Danaher (My favorite BJJ coach) for his fight last night.

Ray is alright as a trainer, but he hasn't put out too many big names. Aside from Weidman and Serra, I can't name any others. One has to keep in mind that Serra wasn't purely Longo's product. Serra trained under Renzo for over 10 years and was our first black belt at the academy under Renzo. He also took advantage and learned a lot of Muy Thai from the instructors we've had in place over the years (guys that came from Phil Nurse's WAT). Serra then joined Longo for some training in pure boxing and used him for his fight against GSP.

As of now, Weidman's success is Longo's big ticket to truly garner a following. Hence why he just partnered up with Weidman to have their own MMA gym. How convenient is that? Smart move in my opinion..

That right there is my Jiu Jitsu instructor. I've trained under that man for over 9 years and love it. He has gotten me now to my brown belt (4 stripes) and I can honestly say out of all the instructors at Renzo's academy, he is the absolute best. A very honorable and humble guy with a world of knowledge to provide to his students.

Danaher is special in that he is phenomenal at no-gi Jiu Jitsu and trains with a strong emphasis that lends itself on applying Jiu Jitsu to both MMA and even street fights. He uses a wide variety of closed guards that are beautiful at defending attacks off your back. Not to mention, that he incorporates both striking offense and defense from the guard, as well as the mount.

Regarding Ray Longo.

Serra was the first to use him from our academy, although Serra knew Longo from way back when he was in High School. Ray already had a small gym out in Long Island that concentrated on boxing & kickboxing back in mid 90's. When I met Serra, it was back in 2003-2004 when I first started to go to Renzo's academy (back when it was above a methadone clinic, prior to the new location that is practically the size of a sports club). Back around 2003-2004, Serra was already a black belt in BJJ for as few years, had a school of his own out in Long Island with his brother Nick since 2001 and was teaching classes for Renzo once a week for beginners/adv. beginners (white & blues). Anyhow, during his fight camp for the first GSP fight, Serra split his time between Renzo's and would also go out to work with Longo for his striking.

Since the time Serra used Longo as his striking coach, Longo has steadily become more and more popular and at some point they even created their own fight team (Serra + Longo). They really didn't put out much talent from there. Then, Weidman showed up, joined Serra's academy out in Long Island and Serra realized he had a kid with talent on his hands. When Serra first brought Weidman to Renzo's academy a few years back, we all thought he was a super talented wrestler, but never did we know he would venture into the realm of MMA.

Now, with Weidman's new found success story, Longo got smart and partnered up with Chris in having their own academy (what happened was that they became business partners and Ray's academy got renamed to Power MMA and is co-owned now by Chris and Ray). Ray knows that having Weidman as a partner will bring in a lot of fanfare and new members, so he tagged up. I think it was a very smart move financially speaking.

I have only heard the best about John. I know Williams in Hollywood. Says only great things about him.

He is phenomenal. GSP, Frankie Edgar, Mir, Weidman, Serra and a bunch of other professional MMA fighters visit Danaher directly for his one-to-one instruction.

The guy is obsessed with Jiu Jitsu and combat in general. I've said it before and will say it again, if he were to ever decide to leave and start his own academy, I would follow him.

What makes Renzo's great is that they have:

fight team
large academy
Muay Thai Kru
Wrestling coach on site
Over 9-10 BJJ black belt instructors (most of which have fought in MMA and/or done BJJ worlds, panams, ADCC etc)
John Danaher
Renzo Gracie

Even with all those amenities, which makes it a one-stop-shop for MMA training, if Danaher were to leave and open up his own place tomorrow, I would cancel my contract and sign up with him.

Do you know of any good Judo guys on the northeast?

We had one at Renzo's, but he recently moved out to Florida. I'd like to pick up some of those devastating Judo throws and overall hip control Judo players have.

Do you know why Matt Serra changed his locks on his gym so his brother couldn't enter anymore?

Do you know why Matt Serra changed his locks on his gym so his brother couldn't enter anymore?

I was never a member at SerraBJJ, so I can't really comment too much on the inner workings of their academies. What I will say is that Matt isn't the nicest guy out there and Nick was cut from the same cloth. I've rolled with Matt about 5-6 times over the years and shared some humor with him, but we're not close friends or anything like that. He is younger than I and has a very different group of friends.

The rumor that I heard was that they were having issues in dividing profits and money was "disappearing", but that was just a locker room rumor that I heard, there is no solid proof to back that. I truly have no clue as to why that incident occurred, but it speaks volumes about integrity.

All you have is family in this world. The moment when you close the door to your own brother is the moment when you've essentially turned your back on the world.

I always say that family problems should be solved within the family. It should never spill, at any cost, into the public eye.

That's not even remotely close to being true.

For Chris' first fight with Anderson, he did his entire camp at Renzo's academy. He used Danaher solely for his Jiu-Jitsu training and used our Muay Thai Kru for striking. Longo would show up with him once or twice a week, but it was mainly to add pointers from the sidelines. John Danaher runs the fight camp at Renzo's and he didn't even charge Chris the full amount. He simply told him to pay for the camp fees after he gets the proceeds from his fight. In his first camp, they even brought in Phil Nurse to show Chris any/all approaches Anderson might have by way of his Muay Thai. They also brought in a bunch of unorthodox boxers.

Serra has said it many times that no one provides a better fight camp than Renzo's academy. Serra knows very well that the best grappling team in NYC is at Renzo Gracie's academy (we win the most titles at all local and state competitions).

Aside from Serra (which was mostly trained by Renzo & Danaher during his first fight with GSP) and Weidman, what other champions has Longo put out?

Danaher's fight camp has put out GSP, Edgar & Weidman (first fight). Renzo's academy also has had more fighters turn pro than any other MMA camp in NYC.

Matt is having some personal issues with his brother at the moment and has let go a bit. To be truthful, from about a year prior to him retiring from MMA, he was already looking a bit chunky and started to concentrate more on the business end of his academy. I don't blame him. Why walk around in shape for a fight, when the most you will be bending on a day-to-day are hundred dollar bills?

Danaher never competed because he prefers to teach and prepare fighters by way of his camps. The guy is certainly cerebral in his approach to training and combat. He is also a smart guy in general, having a master's degree from Columbia University (Ivy league).

He always jokes and says that he is too lazy and now much too old to get in contest shape and compete at places like ADCC or even try for the UFC.

Incorrect. Renzos academy is dependent upon his Gracie last name to attract grapplers. That's why pros mma fighters go there...to train with other high level grapplers...not necessarily with/under Renzo or whoever.

Weidman and Serra both think highly of Longo. He's weidmans coach...and Weidman easily beat the GOAT of mma twice.

Longo is the premier coach of NY. His guy is the champion of the world. Longo and Serra are the best trainers in NY.

I could sense some jealousy.

Renzo is dependent on the Gracie name , however he made a name for himself. I remember Rorian commenting when Renzo first started competing in MMA , his words were to effect of ' If he wins he's a Gracie and if he loses he's just a cousin '

Renzo made a name for himself and continues to do well , Even Royce is bitching about him not staying true to his BJJ roots when in fact Renzo is adapting with the times , I always liked Renzo he put it all on the line

Incorrect. Renzos academy is dependent upon his Gracie last name to attract grapplers. That's why pros mma fighters go there...to train with other high level grapplers...not necessarily with/under Renzo or whoever.

You really have no clue what you're talking about.

Renzo's academy doesn't depend on the Gracie name to attract fans. Fuck, just down the street we have Marcelo Garcia, who is the pound-for-pound king of Brazilian JiuJitsu on the entire East Coast (The only other guy better than him is on the West Coast - Xande). Anyone who has followed the sport for over 10 years can tell you exactly who he is. Till this day, Renzo's academy still has the most members, the most professional fighters coming for the fight camps and the most city and state grappling champions.

Renzo's academy has grown to include it's own superstars like that of Danaher that MMA fighters come to train with. Aside from Danaher, we have over 4 guys (Igor, Gregor, Natal, Daniel) that have been professional MMA fighters (UFC, Strikeforce & Pride) that are also now training new members in MMA.

Renzo also offers everything for the perfect fight camp, the largest facility, the most amount of coaches, a nutritionist on site, Muay Thai Kru, Wrestling coach etc.

You ever been to Longo's academy? I have and it's very small and was hurting financially. Hency why Longo latched onto Chris for a "partnership", which only served but to simply rename Longo's old academy.

Weidman and Serra both think highly of Longo. He's weidmans coach...and Weidman easily beat the GOAT of mma twice.

Ask Serra who he thinks is the best coach in NYC and he will tell you his name is John Danaher.

Longo is the premier coach of NY. His guy is the champion of the world. Longo and Serra are the best trainers in NY.

Again, you have no justifiable proof to claim that. Danaher is GSP, Edgar's and even Weidman's fight camp coach (he directed everything, placed him on diets, brought in the boxers from upstate, facilitated Phil Nurse and taught him more submission grappling geared towards MMA than anyone else).

I could sense some jealousy. Weidman mentions Longo post fight victory but those names youre dropping don't get a peep...and rightfully so. Credit to Longo.

The reason why Chris mentioned Longo in his post fight victory is because for this second fight, he mainly used Danaher for his Jiu Jitsu training. He trained with him all last month, every single week. Whereas his fight camp was held at his own gym (the new gym co-owned by Longo and Chris).

Seriously man, at least know what you're talking about before just spitting shit out.

If you have problem with Weidman repeatedly giving credit to Longo and not mentioning Renzo or whoever then take it up with Weidman. I'm sure he cares about your jealously.

Post fight interview and presser all I heard was Longo Longo Longo out of Weidmans mouth.

Put your big girl thong on and deal with it.

I think Shizzo is trolling you.

Of course he is.

This city is filled with fight teams. There are well over 10-15 fight camps in NYC alone. Because the UFC is still not allowed to bring their promotion here, we have the UCL (Underground Combat League) where most semi-pro and even pro fighters go to sharpen their arsenal. (Frankie Edgar started out in the UCL prior to the UFC).

I don't know Weidman personally , nor would I ever tell anyone how to live their lives or who to give credit to. Weidman has personally given credit to Danaher on way too many occasions.

This is not about Renzo.

OMR... check out Tiago (Camilo)

Olympic Judo Brazil

he really gives BJJ and ADCC etc Champ Demian Maia a super hard time

same with Flavio Canto

thing is, these guys help BJJ out so much... that they actually get black belts them selves... (they are judo black belts, but spend so much time helping BJJ guys get their Judo level up, that they end up getting really really good at BJJ too)

i think its silly to kick a guys shin with your shin. now using your heel makes sense

try kicking a tree with your shin...yeah feels great!

now try kicking the tree with the bottom of your foot, ok cool just dont break a toe or better yet dont waste your time with these kicks, use only for setting up

John is fantastic.

As for Tiago (Camilo), he has power on the mats. That's why I'd like to spend more time with Judo players for the overall hip control they establish while on the ground or even standing. They have an ability to place the fight wherever they want when in the clinch.

it's not that bad. just looks dramatic.

rather have a bone snap than a muscle or tendon tear. the bones will just be fixated straight with screws and plates and then grow together again and heal stronger.

By strange, I meant pitbulls that aren't owned by you.  Everyone who owns one thinks the domination of their own pet who relies on them for food and shelter translates to meaning they are tough.  And suburbia isn't the Savannah in Africa, so I fail to understand what point you are making.

"Master Longo" ..."Godfather" "Great trainer" ..."Genius" - Matt Sera on Ray Longo

Giving credit for Weidmans victory where it's due. As did Weidman in the post fight interview AND presser.

RAY LONGO is the best trainer in NY. He's not just "alright" as OMR says. He's the best.
