pay 20 bucks an hour, doing brute construction work.
I make fuck all at my current job, however I'm trying to get into a union somewhere else. If I do this I loose out my chance for a cushy union job for about the same pay with less strain.

if you make enough now and is more comfortable dont break your back for some dollars
if you need the money you do what you gotta do
this has been a public service message from anabolic halo

In either situation I won't be doing desk work. It's either this or something more skilled trade.

I don't need the money and I'm not exactly sure what I'd even do with the extra money. However I prefer to work hard over being cushy, in fact in either situation I'm leaving my current job by april, I just hate the thought of having to coast through the winter.
Whatever getbigger millionairs wanna pretend I am a hard working muthafucka.

Yes I had issue but I've been working past them for the most part, the physical exertion of this kind of work ironically curves the tremble.

I've worked union jobs and non union jobs. Never noticed much difference between the two with regards to pay and job stress. It's a myth that union jobs are "cushy" but if you think that's what you want, then go for it.
-
Decline. Wait for the union job.
Yeah well the union job is a semi hard ball, it'll mean waiting with no gaurantee I have a good in(half completed education, and a person wanting to give me a chance) but I could end up be passed over regretting passing on good pay.

First off I never used any government services I took the other hard decision which was too move to a more productive area of the country, an option I wouldn't of had if someone I knew didn't die. As far as the company it's not uncommon, they have a position they need filled and taken care of, and they by your own logic don't wanna be fucking with it over the holidays.

Just go to the interview and do your best. See what happens from there. If you don't make it through that process, well, there's your answer.
I've been in the fitness industry but I too have an interview on Jan 2nd with a highly-reputable Union emergency dispatch company. The pay is fanastic, as is the retirement. The interview is 3 fuckin' hours long.
I'm just gonna go with the flow and let the chips fall where they may. Steady income is great, but if you hate the job... oh well, time to rethink things I suppose.
In the fitness industry I do O.K, but the money is NEVER consistent. NEVER! That is by far the most annoying part of working as a trainer...well... that's not entirely true.
You trainers know exactly WTF I'm talking about ~

If u don't need the money why not wait and see whether u can get the union job, which I assume has better benefits, future income potential, job protection, etc?
Any chance u go back to school? Perhaps that's your best option depending on the circumstances.
Well the union job has the good benefits that kick in after like 36 months or something like that. By that time I may have left for school. So i'd probably be better with the quick money now, and save it. but again I donno I've given up on trying to decide. I'm just gonna ask a girl to go out with me if she says no I take the job, if she says yes I'll stay.

How do you lose your chance for the job you want?
Is it with your current company somehow?

i meant unskilled physical work mind you...
i could imagine that if you are really good at some trade it could be enjoyable if it's not too demanding
but being a little wheel in a big machine sucks

this also
never change for short sighted reason
only change for REAL improvement long term
dont wanna be limping from one shit job to the next

i quit my former job impulsively for trying to get another one
didnt get it
was jobless for 1-2 month
by the grace of Jehova God I managed to get by pure extreme luck another job that was actually a solid improvement and same line of work, they called me up for it
took it right away, actually very happy how it all worked out, my former one was children job compared to this
but very crazy story, dont do something like this, not likely to have that much luck

I admire people like che who do physical labour 8-10 hours a day. I tried a couple of days to work in constructions and it ain't fun. I also painted houses for a day or two, cleaning stuff up, stripping the inside and it's also difficult. I was always curious, for example che, how do you eat, what and how much, and how do you find energy to go to the gym and lift?
-
years ago i was real fucking desperate trying to get a first job
i worked one day as a mail delivery man
i would rather kill myself right there instead of going back after first day so i said FUCK IT and never went back
brutal job :-X :-X

X2. Also envy them in a certain way. For the same money, I would work in construction, framing or concrete; the satisfaction of building something, getting home at night and not have to be worried about office shit and customers...

Funny story..
This is how my career in constructions came to an abrupt halt..
I got hired to work manual labour in constructions by a private contractor who needed guys on a job site. At the time I was prepping for a bodybuilding show and stripping in the weekends. So we get to the site of an abandoned building that needed work. My first day. The guy hands me a sledge hammer to pound through the pavement in order to make room for a toilet I believe it was. I pounded for about an hour or two and I was spent. As a bodybuilder/stripper, I was well aware of the dangers of becoming catabolic, so I told the guy I am going to take 15 min to eat. He was like "What??" .. I'm like "Yeah dude, I eat every 2 hours", he looks at me dumbfounded as I start eating and tells me "You are fired". So I replied "Fuck you!" and left. I was happy that I managed to stay on schedule with my meals for that day though.
This was not my first rodeo. I got fired from another part time telemarketing night job for the same reason. Break should have come so I pull out the red meat and rice. The supervisor: "No break, get back to work!" .. I said: "Look, it's important for me to eat every two hours". He said I could eat whenever I had a break but not now. Unfortunately, his schedule and my nutrient timing were in obvious conflict so I started eating right there in front of him. He fired me, I said "Go fuck yourself!" and left happy that I did not allow that mofo to derail my bodybuilding career.
In 1999, I was admonished for being late to teach tennis lessons because I was struggling to make protein shakes with crappy powder and no shaker .. it was a mess in the locker, but I did what I had to do. The company that made them was sponsoring me with product so I thought this is for sure a sign that I have a future in bodybuilding.
In 2003 I was jacked and got a head tennis pro position with a country club. They could not understand how I was able to play tennis with all that muscle. But at that time, I was starting to shy away from playing tennis and started bulking. Between teaching privates, I was to be found at the buffet eating chicken mc nuggets, usually 20 each break. From that job I got fired because I was entertaining the kids by hitting tennis balls 300 yards onto the freeway. The kids were my biggest fans because I entertained them and they learned as well. The club president did not find it funny and fired me (old upscale country clubs can be uptight).
;D

Good advice except one should find what they are passionate about and go for it whether they need the money or not.
