I prefer Serge in certain poses .. his ankles are a bit thick and lower body is not that graceful to be honest .. but he was a master poser.

Just a preference, but I'd try for this look if I were a bodybuilder...

(A swimmer? I'll take it. Better to swim, than to float around like a whale. (The modern "bloated drug pig" look).

I have researched this topic for a while and Muscular Development had a great article on Arnold’s presumptive stack in the April 2011 issue. The theme of the article was that more is not better for today's pros.

The presumptive cycle looked as follows:

Weeks 1-5 600mg/wk of Primobolan Enanthate and D-Bol @ 60mg/day
Weeks 6-10 800mg/wk of Primobolan Enanthate and D-Bol @ 80mg/day
Weeks 11-14 1,000mg/wk of Primobolan Enanthate and D-Bol @ 100mg/day
Weeks 15-17 800mg/wk of Primobolan Enanthate and D-Bol @ 80mg/day
Weeks 18-20 600mg/wk of Primobolan Enanthate and D-Bol @ 60mg/day
BRIDGE
Weeks 21-26 D-Bol @30mg/day and Deca-Durabolin @ 200mg/wk
After week 26, start week 1 again.

Notice no PCT or Aromatase inhibitor (AI).

The bridge was not enough to restore natural production, so who knows how messed up he got afterwards with his pecker. But, he must have been on some good test to get that ugly ass maid knocked up.

Also, note that the ratios during cycle are constant….this could have minimized the effects of gyno.

seriously? in 1980?

Yep. Artie Zeller took the shot. Artie was in Gold's Venice frequently in the early and mid 90's.  I asked him very directly, in a friendly manner about that cover shot. Artie shot literally 1,000's of pics of Arnold at Muscle Rock- the location of that cover pic, off Mulholland Drive in the Santa Monica Mountains. That cover image is unique out of those pics. His right bicep and pec thickness is what I questioned.  Artie smiled his little smile and said, ". . . Hell of a picture don't you think. . ."

That proves nothing of course. Arnold's right bicep height and fullness and his pec thickness is what tells me the pic was morphed/stretched. I have no real proof. I just can't find a single other Arnold picture where his right bicep is that insane.

Thanks Wes.  No mass monster. But 5 foot 10" and 210lbs in that shot.

Hazbin (Rick) .....Artie Zeller's art work was painted up in the walls of Venice Golds.   It was heartbreaking that they painted over it.  I never understood why.

George Butler (director) from "Pumping Iron" fame (and many great Arnold shots) stayed with my parents when he did a safari in Zimbabwe in the 80's. Small world.

why do you roll your eyes without commenting?  that's what women do, would you really feel better if i said "many" instead of "all"?

franco would've won most of those olympias if arnold never existed, he didn't inspire like arnold not even close, that's why he was the extra in The Terminator while arnold got the starring role

arnold made bodybuilding cool, then his moves made the sport relevant to everybody

who knows how many millions of guys started going to the gym after watching predator or commando, not to mention the many great physiques we have been privileged to witness on stage thanks to this austrian oak

and that pic is awesome

Perfect build prior to his pec tear, especially
around the time he competed in the Rimini Olympia.
Richard Jones also comes to mind as having an ideal

Epic shot. Arnold's cover of, Arnold; the Education of a Bodybuilder.  Also one of the first bodybuilding pics to be morphed/stretched.   Awesome pic but not quite the truth.

I have no real proof.

Hi "oakman". Still thinking about buying your humvee but your feet manager won't return my calls.

Have you kept the "Governor logoed" floormats in it? I would rather put my own if possible.

Thank you.

when you look at Arnolds pics you're probably not objective because of who he is and what he accomplished.

he did have a very good structure and build though and was tall unlike many bb'ers.

are there any tall bodybuilders with simular builds to Arnold today?

Sorry for hurting the feelings from both of you, but Dexter has great balance & flow (Arnold = only good chest, biceps, calves & clavicles) and he has a conditioning that makes Arnold look like a cheesecake.
On the other side, Arnold is a very successful and hardworking person with charisma, while Dex is a pretty insecure & cocky guy, though he made improvements.

As for Arnold, he had too much charisma and was white; Serge could never have hoped to outshine a such a marketable figure even though he had the superior physique.

Serge seemed to never smile and always seemed to have this air of melancholy or gloom about him.
The few interviews that I have seen on YouTube, he doesn't grab your attention.
Maybe it was his age, as he was like 10 yrs older than Arnold, or maybe he knew that things were rigged and his demeanor reflected that.

I believe that almost anyone's chest looks flat in this pose, Arnold's included. Don't get me wrong, Arnold has a thick chest, but it always lacked a good rainbow look, like Dex has.
Yes, compared with a 4 pack, striated abs look 'strange'  ;D

Unfortunately for Serge...their were these poses...they were called  mandatory poses.

you couldn't just stand there throughout the whole contest with your hips cocked  just the right way with your hand on your hip...leaning back just so.... to make yourself look really good in that one pose.

You forgot to include the 'no homo' disclaimer at the end, or... (whatever..)

I would rather say that most old school BBers had toothpick legs, but OK, this is subjective. Arnold would look much better if he put more focus on his quads, instead he was in love with the calf raise machine.
Keep in mind that the gluteus maximus is the largest muscle in the human body (fact, no homo).

Arnold had long ass arms.

That is pretty uncommon for bodybuilders. The ones with big arms, todays Roelly and Phil Heath, have pretty short arms too. These mentioned are also short of couse.

Often when bbers have long arms they often look a little lanky too. But Arnold was an exception to this, they were long, big, cut, peaked, everything.

I hope Anabolico has long arms because you can only do so much with short arms. Long arms looks the most impressive when filled out.

.. And they didn't!  >:( People are easily "bedazzled" by some pretty lines on the torso. This must have been the first Mr Olympia with no discernable muscle from the knee down ???

he doesnt have the bones to be a bodybuilder

has the muscles to be a "big swole arms in the club" fella

makes narrow ppl like me proud tho

The potential of a BBer starts with his frame, so Arnold won from Frank, Lee Haney from Lee Labrada, Dorian from Flex and Ronaldo from anyone. So Phil's titles aren't in line with this law of nature.

phil heath seems to be in denial about his skeletal width

one time he said

"a lot of it has to do with the way i walk and stuff, i'm not one of those guys who walks with chest puffed lats flared, i just walk like a cool guy...relaxed..."

funny

when i heard that i thought "holy shit does he actually not realize ?"

He tries to be cool about it, but I see a lot of passive aggressiveness going on. Check his interviews, esp the one by Marvin from VNM tv, or his reaction when Kai made a joke by signing "Kai Greene, Mr O".

his legs were good imo including his calves especially for a black.. same with his arms but both parts were criticized by some because they were definitely overpowered by his back and chest..

Good calves, that's certainly true. Yeah, maybe the rest of his upper body overpowered his arms a bit, but I prefer that look with the reverse like Phil Heath.
Also a great personality BTW.

Eduardo Kawak had an underrated physique. He competed outside the "Weider" Orgs most of his career, so of course he received very little coverage.

Side-by-side he was pretty close to Mentzer.

Well, he had great proportions and symmetry, great lines, super wide with tiny waist and full round muscle bellies... Imo he was very aesthetic, especially his 92-93-94 prime version before surgeries... All his strange faces and funky posing made him look more like a monster, but in fact his physique was very pleasing... Yes, those varicose vein didn't help either... Watch his pics near Wheeler at the Ironman and AC 1993, you can see what i mean...

OK, we can have a different view on aesthetics which is fine, but symmetry is a mathematical/objective thing. His back was far from symmetrical!
Regarding his proportions, his chest was strongly overpowered by his delts.

Absolutely, bb is entirely subjective... About his back, lots has been said about it, the truth is that he had a wide back with great insertions, his lats from the front were huge like wings... Dillett's problem was poor mind-muscle control (i seriously don't know the cause, bad reaction to some substance maybe?), a huge problem that fucked his posing, especially the ability to open his back, and his training... His shoulder problem didn't help either... Yes, his chest was wide but not super thick, but honestly wasn't such a proportion flaw... Wheeler, the Sultan of Symmetry, had his "aesthetic flaws" also... The very true proportioned aesthetic bbs were usually midgets like Labrada, Benfatto, Ray and similar...
