Title: Ruhl in 1999!
Post by: affeman on January 11, 2014, 08:47:18 AM
At age 27 - Markus is the only guy from back then who's still as big as ever and healthy. Anyone else from that era is either dead (like Nasser etc.), a tiny tit (like Tom Prince etc.) or looks like complete shit (like Ronnie etc).

Hail Ruhl!

lol I'm not too sure how healthy he is. He's just the only one who hasn't had anything happen, yet.

Keyword being "yet". I love Ruhl, but I'm sure we'll hear about him having a heart attack or something soon enough. It's just a matter of time.

Markus gets regular check-ups. His doc says he's fine, he just has to keep up his daily cardio (20-30 mins on the treadmill).

So he's got nothing that's causing grave concern right now, but he's still 300lbs. That's going to catch up with him. Not that I wish any ill will on him. I love Ruhl and hope he doesn't fall victim like so many others. The last generation of greats is starting to topple. :-\

The fact that my triceps are not bigger than his has nothing to do with the matter. I do not have to show my triceps to prove that his triceps are small for a pro bodybuilders. In the same way that a baseball announcer does not have to throw a 90mph fastball to critique a professional pitcher.

Overall, he was a good bodybuilder, but his triceps were a lagging bodypart.

Hope this helps.

Early Ruhl was the bomb.
As funny and likeable as he's big... needs to take control of Germany and steer her into the right direction.

Being European was Ruhl's worst flaw. If Ruhl was American, he'd have been a multiple Arnold Classic champion and Olympia Top 3 finisher.

In Yates era the Line-Up was much weaker. They had to give it to him, Yates literally had no competition.

No way!

Yates had to deal with: prime Haney, prime Wheeler, prime Levrone, prime Ray, prime Dillet, prime Nasser

Yates faced the best.

He was always accused of using synthol on his bis. If that were the case, why didn't he use it in his tris?

Yes, you can definitely tell he used it in his biceps. Not too sure why he didnt use it in his triceps. They needed it the most.

Maybe from a conditioning standpoint. Def was insane in 1999. Still the NoC 02 was his best and freakiest showing ever.

Wheeler didn't start the oil until after Yates retired, when he had to deal with Ronnie. Levrone's legs were smaller after Yates retired. And during Yates' reign, Shawn was 205. He came in 210-215 during the 98 Mr. O.

Dorian and Ronnie had the same competitors, minus Dex, but all were at different stages of peaks.

Wheeler wasn't even remotely an "oilbag" in 1993 or '96, and Levrone had good wheels until after Dorian retired.  If anything, he was known for the freakiness of his quads and hamstrings, even when he severely overdieted; e.g., the '92 Olympia.

Shawn was also pushing a little more than 175 :) -- and that's to say nothing of the competition in Cormier, Vince Taylor, Nasser, Dillet, Francois, Munzer, Labrada, Schmidt, Sarcev, "young" Ronnie, Clairmonte, Baker ... apart from Phil and Kai, which modern bodybuilders really stack up to the 90s lot?  "Flexatron"?  LOL.  Maybe if he could grow a pair of pecs bigger than a 10-year-old girl's.  And what's that great black dope everyone keeps going on about?  Cedric?  Yeah, he'd be competitive with the 90s guys ... provided he discovered some way to actually get shredded.
