Title: any fathers here who lift with their sons. Or sons that lift with their fathers
Post by: LiftEaTsLeEpRePeAt on January 13, 2014, 03:03:17 PM
Just started training my son.      Also saw a father and son working out at my gym..  You could see in the fathers eyes how impressed he was with his sons dead lifts..  And I could see how hard the kid was working to impress his father.   its an amazing bonding thing to do together.

it sends the wrong message. the moment a barbell is picked up pandora's box is opened that leads down a path of severe drug abuse and distorted sense of reality
that seems extreme   I lifted for 20 years before I touched anything.       And Im not suggeszting kids spend 4 hours a day in the gym  but healthy lifting and proper care for one body is a learnt behavior    gotta start them young

You have to be special to lift for 20years and not touch a thing.

Did you finally juice, bro?

I train my 11 year old son. He doesn't do a ton of weights, but tabatas and some functional work. I am having him do static holds to get used to stuff.

my son does this

biceps
triceps
traps
chest

also does push ups sit ups pull ups and dips    calf raises

all workouts done with body weight or small dumbbells

this allows us an hour a day to bond and gets him off the playstation

Girls and sons who have not been loved by their fathers seek attention once teens and adults to compensate for what they didnt have originally. Fathers either left them alone, or were distant most of the time and not encouraging them. Some even despised them which would shape their personality and the way they d interact with others for the rest of their life.
They are extremistic in everything they do, always looking exageratly for attention, and have troubles adapting to society's rules, because they also have troubles defining their own identity and respecting authority and hierarchy.

Also boys who got picked on by others during childhood and adolescence -often sons without a father figure- try to compensate by lifting weights, to develop muscles and survive in ther male world. They re insecure because they re girly, childish, feminine having been raised by a single mom. They lift obsessively hoping it will transform them into men, to compensate for their lack of influence from a father figure that was not there. Unfortunaltey they can get as big as they can it doesnt cure their insecurity and who they truly are, how they grew up being raised by a single mom. They re no as manly as other men whatever they do, and they often have a big lack of masculine presence they dont know how to balance, hence often being borderline homosexuals while trying to get their manhood back thru various manly activities (mma, cars, weight lifting etc). They are often the ones that, in order to get respect from other males will go the steroids route to get even "bigger" attemptint to cure their insecurity , but being natural not being "enough", they still feel "too small", insecure, amongst other males. The lack of a father figure also often means they didnt have guidance to continue studies and are often working shitty manual jobs.

Why do skinny fat little trolls constantly have to post their nonsense? It must be terrible to live your life envious of "all those mean juiced up jocks" - lol

My son is only 8 years old. I would get him to start lifting weights but then how do I shield him from finding out about Kai Greene?

Thats the million dollar question. Both videos (towel video and grapefruit) will destroy him for life. :(

Perhaps you should wear brighter clothing or stop tanning.

Make him watch Dragon Ball cartoons. Then slowly introduce him to the Predator Kai.

My pops always trained every morning before work. I started asking to go to the gym with him around age 12. Definitely caught the iron bug from my old man but I became much more obsessed with it than he was. Great memories being a kid and training together though  8)

My son tried to bench 315lb for the first time this week.

...couldn't do it and needed a spot...so I punched him the face and told him he was no son of mine.

Was I being a little to tough or should I have waited until he had the bar off his chest and had a chance to stand before I hit him ???

My son and daughter and I practice jiu jitsu together.

My daughter enjoys it, I think, only because dad likes it and she wants to like things I like. She's a good kid. Very strong for her age and very muscular and really gets jiu jitsu, but she's a girly-girl and doesn't really have a passion for it.

My son enjoys it because he really likes it. His favorite move this week - the gogoplata. He's got these little bony shins and amazing flexibility that lets him land it. He thinks it's lots of fun watching dad turn red and tap out.

And of course they like lifting with dad too. But only just to compete with each other...not for any other reason. I'm fine with that. They don't need my mental issues that turned me on to lifting.

My step father took me to gym. Only really good thing he ever did for me.
He was a juicer. Later didn't wan't to workout with his own son. He could not
afford to juice any more so he felt it was pointless...

If he's still living under your roof you should be punched in the face too. No way I'd let my son live with me if he was a little twink.

not everyone who lifts has mental issues as one member previously stated.  I got in to lifting because I enjoy being healthy and looking good.    Don't wanna be a 40 year old fat ass on his way to diabetes and obesity.       Also lifting aids us in day to day life.   How people perceive you has a lot to do with ones look.   When I see a fat lazy person I don't even want to do business with them

I used to be a personal trainer years ago and I can tell you the worst advice I saw came from 2 places:

1) dads training their son

2) guys training their girl friend.

Sure. I would never generalize that everyone who lifts does so because of inadequacy issues. I like to think lots of guys lift just because they like it.

what is the consent age for using HGH, DNP and insulin?  Could save a lot of money going dutch when my kid is old enough.

Also it's disappointing they don't make Zubaz in XS 3/4 sizes.
