Ask some people you know and can trust who their accountant is and then hire them.

 If you are a contractor? You can easily fuk yourself with a schedule c.

 If your taxes are relatively simple it should only cost about $100 a year and it is deductible.

This is good advice. The schedule c if it isn't correct can cause a ton of problems. Find a good local accountant, and just write it off.

Most accountants are crooks and bookkeepers are middle aged female alcoholics.  Don't do it.

I use Open Office freeware spreadsheet structured more or less on the categories given on the gov forms, plus a few for insurers and my own reference.  The fees that professionals charge are totally unjustified when you can easily replace them with a free program into which you import your bank statement.

If you work alone it's very easy.  Employees make it a little more hairy.  Using contractors is way easier since it's an expense like any other except for insurance issues.
