Just do 2 plates max, you'll be fine

Yep, 10-20 reps. If you keep rest periods between 30-60 seconds, 2 plates gets HEAVY

try 3-5 sets of 10-20 reps. you'll be done!

just do leg extensions, leg press and hack squats brother. no need for regular squats if u must do them do front squats

If you can do 5 sets of 20 with 100kg, pump-style and 60 second rest periods, you are a strong fucking bodybuilder. Plus the satisfaction of watching a fat permabulker struggle with 5x160kg, only to look like shit, is highly satisfying

5x160kg with locked out knees is easy stuff
however i suspect it absolutely destroys your bones over time

Squats on the smith are ok
the regular stuff I avoid, don't get a great pump with it and it hits my knee tendons hard for some reason
leg press and hack squats leave me so jelly I can barely limp to the car

You raise an excellent point, one that i fear will never be answered conclusively.
If you want to squat without widening your waist or injuring your joints, do it in the manner described. For maximum size.............fuck if i know :-\

back up to 405 for 4 this style and it's harder in some ways than 545 the old way.

What do you think about needing heavy weights for maximum size? Or can someone get pro size legs with 315 and enough drugs

315 for 4 sets of 10 done the way I do them should be plenty stimulation. Are they 'better' than fast squats? Who knows, they are safer though, and safety is really the only thing you can control. The rest is drugs and genetics :x
I used to train in the same gym as wong hong the ''Asian sensation'' here and I think he never went over 275 for squats, his legs were huge

very true. legs do not need heavy lifting to grow. En France, I used to train with Renel Janvier and Thierry Pastel. neither went over 160kg, ever.

I would say the over whelming majority of guys doing the squat short stroke it so they can load up the plates to impress. Some of these guys would be stuck if they truly sank all the way down with 275lbs. I just saw two guys using 405 and they were barely bending their knees. They were calling them half squats but I would call them 40% range of motion squats. They would have been better off using 225 and sinking it in a controlled manner.
