He just recently broke the jr American record for both lifts with the above.

I like the fella but he's going nowhere on a international level. Needs 20kg on both lifts at the same bodyweight to be competitive, even in a very weak 105kg class today.

With the right coaching, supplementation... and a little luck to avoid any major injuries... i'd say thats very attainable. The kid has time on his side. If you compare him with Navab Nassirshalal(silver in 2012) at that age... they both are at the same level.

No way, 40kg gain in the same weightclass is insane. At the same age nevab lifted 169/207, at 94kg. Ian is lifting at 105 these days.

Don't get me wrong I have tremendous respect for Ian's accomplishments but 40 kg on your total is HUGE without jumping in weightclasses. If you look at previous results of lifters from other countries they are already at their peak at that age or very very close to it.

Okay maybe this is a little harsh, he's lifting 375kg which is good for the B class at a WWC. He's just not good enough for the top.

I'm trying to be optimistic bro.  :D He's still our best chance. Also even tho he competes in 105 he weighed in at 100.3kg for the jrs and he doesn't look ripped or anything. He can drop a bit of fat and put on another 15lbs of muscle and still be in the same weight class.
