science has proven they make you shorter. Most elite powerlifters lose about an inch of height throughout their career, if not more.
-
WTF?
Link me up....this is hilarious. I've never heard this before.
Most people ARE NOT elite powerlifters....hence I'm sure most of us have nothing to worry about. :D
-
short people have lower iq's too, apparently (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2571565/Theyre-called-vertically-challenged-short-people-intellectually-challenged-too.html)

Jason Blaha could not disagree more.

Well by that logic weighted dips and chins should make you taller.
-
Following the logic jerking off should make your dick bigger.
-
what do you mean logic? Your compressing your spine, with 400-500 pounds twice a week for years...Dave tate had an article about this.
hes full of shit too ::)

This guys looks legit. I wasn't sure at first with the baldness and shit but the stuffed cat closed the deal for me.
Call me superficial but I just call it like I see it.

The heavy weight DOES compress the spine and joints. Arnold used to be almost 6'2" and is struggling with 5'11" today. Big Louie used to be over 6'4" and is between 6'2" and 6'3" today. Geoff Capes (British strongman) used to be 6'6" and today is barely taller than 6'0" MMA fighter. Even Reg Park was once 6'1" and was about 5'9" when he died. The list goes on and on.

I thought this thread read 'why don't people 6 feet under do squats and deadlifts?'
a little different that way, lol

You get shorter as you move beyond middle age...
-
If it's any consolation, there is a study for pretty much everything out there

Or maybe those guys u listed were never that height to begin with . Arnold was more likely 6'1 and now 5'11 to 6 , Lou probably 6'3 and half and now 6'2.. :D

people lose height as they age, period. My father and granfather are both around 2-4" shorter than they were in their 20s.
connective tissues wear and compress, fatigue and constant movement erodes bone..... its natural. Youre going to get shorter as you get ilded, I dont know if heavy deads or squats are really going to accelerate it that much.

It's like a sort of age related inability to grow muscle as did in 20-40 years of age - but structure related.

People under 6 feet should not be allowed to do any weights period.
-
Your height can change just by dehydration.
That inch variation is completely plausible: We have 32 vertebrae in our spine along with the intra-vertrebae discs. If you loose or gain one milimeter in each one that's more than an inch.
So heavy loadings shorten you and streching elongates you.
Ask hernia or ciatic nerve pain patients if streching or hanging isn't a great pain relief.
-
People under 7 feet should not be allowed to do any weights period.
Fixed.

Maybe soles are getting thinner?
It wouldn't surpise me, it seems like another millimetre is shaved off my favourite candy bars every year :'(

Are you suggesting that when I 'run to the gas station to pick up a couple of candy bars' at 11:30pm, and return with no chocolate, 50 dollars less in my pocket, and my breath smelling of cocoa butter and fresh semen, that the 'station was closed'?

Gayer than bigmc and BigCyp having mud wrestling practice.
