What did you do Milos?

Trained legs...

One of my favorite exercises "sissy squats on hack machine"...
Of course - super slow...and with 2 second pause in the bottom position (+ super slow on the way up...without ever locking the knees...)
Title: Re: Happy B-Day Milos!
Post by: Milos_Sarcev on January 18, 2006, 10:29:30 AM
Hmmm, I guess I cheated a little - as my shoulders/hips/knees should be in the same line throughout the movement...
That Godiva Chocolate cheesecake for lunch (after the apple pie a la mode) have extra G(ravity) force...I guess.

Exercise is super safe and BEYOND effective - if done properly.
Once in position (raise your hips to be in line with your knees and shoulders)...Keep your feet close together and high on the platform (try to raise your heals as much as you can - so you would push off the ball of the foot only).
With super slow eccentric part of the movement (on the way down) - about 3-4 seconds...go down as low as you can (try to seat on your calves). In that position make 2 seconds pause while maintaining maximal contraction (don't relax).
Concentrically (on the way up) - use only muscle contraction rather than powerful push (explosive movement) - so you can FEEL muscle fibers of your quads...
Again - make sure to go "slow" (about 3-4 seconds) on the way up...and don't lock your knees at the top (continuous tension principle)...

Don't use heavy weigh...don't drop your hips...and don't go fast...
I swear you'll have GREAT feeling...and certainly - results.

Here are few more pics when I was younger (last week) - when my "behind" was little lighter...

Look at Milos legs at the moment. They are still unreal. Awesome legs still Milos

What would be your advice on doing this exercise on a hack squat machine that is a little more upright than that one. After reading about the exercise on your forum I did it last week in leg training and with little to no weight on the machine going at a tempo of 5sec down 5 up i struggled with 6 reps. But it felt like my quads were more sliced by the minute

I was laughing even back than...
I always see a glass half full and never empty...so considering that I could have died that day - little 4th degree burns were laughing matter...

Spaking of that accident - I think I achieved ultimate "skinless look" with the least amount of extracellular water retention...
You think IFBB judges could overlook me if I entered the Olympia like this?

Hvala

Yes that was it. I remember he used to place his feet close together on the BOTTOM  of the platform and at the bottom of the movement he used to kick out!

This looks to me like a regular hack squat (on very old hack squat machine) and only difference is his foot position.
I would still encourage you to try my sissy hack squats...(I just did them today again...and I am cramping at the moment (1am) so I cannot even think about sleeping...)

We'll try it this weekend, we just switched gyms to Club Met Rx and love the old equipment. I'm sure we'll get some questions about the exercose.

Milos would you suggest doing this exercise once in awhile or often?  I am eager to try it on my next leg day but want to know if it should be included regularly.

I would suggest OFTEN - if you feel right doing it...
Remember - keep your knees/hips/shoulders in the same line...go very slow (controlled) all the way down.
In bottom position pause for two seconds while maintaining maximal contraction in your quads and than slowly (without any momentum) push your way up...
At the top stop short of locking your knees...

Happy B'day Milos!!! Those sissy hacks looks insane!!! I live in Australia.  I will be competing in a Nabba show here in Australia in May. Actually your good friend Luke Wood is helping me with my contest prep. Luke told me about the crazy legs workouts you guys had and i will be trying my hardest to incorperate these slow hacks into my quad workouts.

Do you start off with your feet flat on the platform and then start to raise your heels as you lower your body or are you on your toes throughout the entire range of motion?

I saw Tom doing hacks MANY times during the summer of 1981 and his performance was radical but far different that yours Milos. He wasn’t doing a sissy squat movement. He would place his feet low on the platform go down as in a regular hack squat then roll forward until his knees touched the platform in  front of him, roll back in, then back up in a regular hack squat form.

Magic Schwarz had quite a bit a video footage of Tom Training but many people have failed to get a response from him. Maybe you would be more successful http://www.magicschwarz.com/

I'd like to see video footage of you or your clients doing the movement as you do. Do you have any clips?
