Title: Planet Fitness removes squat rack because its too intimidating.
Post by: TK on March 20, 2014, 09:16:58 AM

Planet Fitness regularly touts how it’s not like all the other gyms and encourages soft people to indulge in its purple haze of mediocrity. And now they’re taking it one step further: Getting rid of squat racks for being “intimidating.”

Redditor Kalerad posted his problem with Planet Fitness’s overly all-inclusive philosophy on the site’s Fitness subsection.
“I walked in noticing the outline of dust on the floor where the squat rack once stood. I was heartbroken. Especially since I had just recently found a love for squatting.

“I of course had to ask an employee “WTF?” He regretfully told me that a few days prior corporate came in and removed it because ‘a customer complained that it was intimidating.’”

The move is one of many — along with offering free pizza and bagels and tanning beds — to lure in the casual gym goer who might be turned off by gyms being a little too “fitness oriented.”

Either way, if you want to do serious workouts at any point in your life, make sure to avoid Planet Fitness. And if you’re the type of person who’s intimidated by a series of metal rods that make people stronger and healthier, we’re probably all better off if you remove yourself from society’s gene pool.

From a business model perspective, it's pure genius. Imagine making sure that all of your members are so unmotivated that they never put one minute of wear on any piece of equipment. Your maintenance costs and ongoing CAPEX investment becomes effectively zero.

That, combined with with "friendly, unintimidating atmosphere" leads to a steady supply of said fatasses that won't ever adversely impact your bottom line.

Win/win.

I think for the hardcore gym rat...this would be the perfect thing. Buy a franchise....put all the shit u want in the back....and then get a whole bunch of sloths to sign up, never show up...and subsidize your training and drugs. This is a microcosm of society. The gym where people are scared and never work out.

No, but I have built and opened 3 data centers in the last 2 years, so ROI and CAPEX are always on my mind.

Why?

Simple......Because the tire was there. ;D

When a crossfitter wearing vintage 70s socks sees an oversized tire, they mount it.  It's what they do.......

Better yet, why even buy or elase equipment?  Just use holograms to make it look like equipement.  Set the indoor temp a little high. The fatties will sweat walking around and think they worked out then sell them a post workout smoothie with 3000 calories of sugar for $7.99 to refuel their glycogen levels

Maybe the reason Coach fighters are always losing is because he is having them dick around on balls all day building "stability" and "core strength" with Planet Fatass routines oh brother
Instead of doing tried and true workouts like the bench press.

You sound like an off shoot gimmick of "the idol". I say this because of the same MO. Apparently you didn't get the hint the first time.

maybe I can trick the idiots in corporate to remove them and then I will complain that the leg extension and pulldown machine are scary and soon they will just have an empty building

They run an advertisement on the radio every morning where some guy asks a "bro" if he got his burn on today. The lunk alarm goes off. Planet fitness will not stand for that sort of question.

after being in a filthy gym, filled with iron and equipment, I say you don't really need to stay in one  after you reached your goals... I mean, it's a great place to gain new muscle but after that.. meh
I'm now in one of these homo gyms, pay less, much cleaner, girls are much more good looking, etc
I train about 3 times/week and it's more than enough to maintain.

steroid abusers start to become a bore after a while
