Gustavo is overhyped and way over rated. Don't start thinking he's so special, cos he ain't. He just a cocky, arrogant fucker and just cos he's placed well at a couple of shows don't mean anything, the only reason he placed 3rd at the 2005 O was cos Dexter wasn't competing. We all know he only got 3rd in 2004 cos of the challenge round, which has been scrapped. Gustavo deserved 4th at that show at best. Dexter KICKED HIS ASS in the prejuding, the score cards says it all
Gustavo made himself look like a fool at the Mr O press conference, challenging the champion Ronnie to a pose down, everyone laughed at him...LOL...Gustavo really thinks he's gonna win the O. Yeah, maybe when hell freezes over.
Do you really think he'll ever be Mr O? He never will, not before Dexter, Martinez and Jay.
Yeah I HATE Gustavo, and it's all because he's so arrogant, cocky and selfish. We all saw what he was at the 2005 Ironman, he's bullshitting with the other competitors back stage and talking smack, and then he was shouting out 'get the check ready, because first place will have my name on it, Gustavo Badell!'
If you don't believe that he acted this way, check out the page from a mag review I got, it says it all there third and fourth paragraph IN PRINT. :o
What about the video when he claims to be '100% natural' and he got his size due to 'hard work thats all', that video made me laugh, he's full of bullshit and he's a liar as well
And lets get one thing straight, Dexter is smoke his ass at the AC. Whats more, Cormier will smoke his ass as well, you know how much HE WANTS the AC. Gustavo will be lucky to place 3rd again.
-
Dude, c’mon now another post about Gus......... I Haven’t made my mind up about him, if he was joking in that video I think it was Bfto 2005 where he was saying he is 100% natural and flexing his biceps going "oh I luv it I luv it" if he was just pulling everyone's leg a being stupid then I think he’s a champion and a funny bastard, but if he was being serious in that video then he is everything u said above plus a total fuken idiot meathead.
-
the guy looks like horse shit
-
Gustavo is the 3rd best BBer on the planet without a doubt … if the challenge round was a part of the show then it was … and there is nothing any BBer can do about it … every1 of them should have made the best of it and as we saw Gustavo did it 2 years in a row (don’t hate THE GAME if u r a bad player)
As for over hyped or over rated … well … it would have been true if he didn’t prove himself this year … but he did and he proved and backed up his last years 3rd place.
He challenged Ronnie in the press conference … so what … as u all heard Cormier said the press conference is all about that … and challenging Ronnie showed that he aint scared of nobody … and maybe that is the reason he won the Challenge round.
Do I really thing he will be Mr. O?? u tell me y not … Jay is going to retire very soon as he said (even if not we all know y he was not compared with Gustavo this year) and Victor … c’mon I think we had enough of Victor’s potential … we need to see him dial in on the mark and not as we have seen him the past shows … judging is not upon potential but upon what u present on stage.
arrogant, cocky and selfish … r u kiddin me … I know him and talked to him several times over the phone … and a humbler person you couldn’t meet … he might look Cocky but he is very respectable and a true gentleman and once u get to know him u will know that he is not as u thought.
He told Lonnie Teper to get the check ready for him … well that is self confidence and a lot of the BBers do that and make a lot of statements before they even prepare for a show or even c the other competitors … he did it when every thing was almost over and it was clear he was the winner.
What happened in the Arnold was that he tried something new and didn’t work well with him so don’t expect to see the same Gustavo this time … and I think anything less the 2nd place will be an upset for Gustavo … depending on how sharp Dex turns out … Gustavo has a great chance of winning the 100G and the Hummer.
-
someone said that what he meant by 100% natural is that he's got no synthol or nothing else in there.
-
I don't think that Gustavo is cocky at all. These guys train to win, not to come in second. As for challenging Ronnie, that adds some excitement to the Mr. Olympia. Why would that not be right? If you look at the pics posted (even the one you posted) you can see that he is not overrated. How can he be overrated when he beat Ronnie in the challenge round voted on by previous Mr. Olympia's? Makes no sense.
-
dexter jackson will never win the olympia. you cant go from Ronnie to Dexter, it will be a joke.
-
He looks great, but I will be surprised if someone who posed for musclegallery is allowed to win the ASC. Then again, his musclegallery profile was yanked some time ago so who knows. :D
-
Will lose the AC? Since when he did WIN the AC?
-
jezus christ.
even a thread about this idiot. it's a shame that he's in bodybuilding Competition

M1 ... don't let your personnal opinion about the personality of a bodybuilder affect how you judge his physique. His results over the past 2 years clearly show that he is at least among the top 5 in the world. His Olympia results put him as 3rd in the world, but I'll give you 2 places to spare!
From your earlier posts I noticed two trends:
1. You LOVE Lee Priest (hey... he's my favorite bodybuilder too)
2. You HATE Badell
Now, not wanting the start anything, but did the fact that Badell beat your favorite bodybuilder (for which you seem to have more than a tad too much "admiration") affect your judging of Gustavo in any way? Since you also posted negative comments about Chris Cormier (who had a short feud with Lee last year) It would seem that your judgement is clouded a bit.
Now, anybody who has judged shows in the past, or who has a vast experience of competing will say that at the 2005 Olympia Gustavo was the 3rd best man on stage *according to the current judging standards*, or at the VERY least put him a certain top 5.
Now, since conditonning can vary so much from show to show, and that it's quite easy to completely mess it up by retaining a bit of water, comming in too flat, overcarbed, bloated, etc. It's fair to say that on any given day, anybody among the top 5 in the world can win any show (if Ronnie is not competing ;) ). So any top 5 man in the world competing at the Arnold indeed has a chance to win it. It's all about who shows up in the best shape that day.
Now, as far as Gustavo goes. Don't confuse "stage persona" will his real personality. Do you really think Triple H is a cheating asshole in life just because his Wrestling character acts that way in the ring? Bob Chick said it himself: bodybuilding is boring, and to promote it we need more excitement! I would not be surprised to learn that bodybuilders were instructed to act "controversial" to stirr the pot and increase interest.
Yeah, Gustavo did strip down and challenged Ronnie at the press conference. But Melvin did the same and challenged Darrem telling him that he would win the best poser award (Melvin ended up looking bad because they did not have such award this year). Mustafa and Branch also compared quads at the conference. Last year Gunter challenged Ronnie and Jay joined in the fun and all three had an inpromtus pose down. This year Gunter also said he would beat Ronnie. Then when someone tells Ronnie that they are comming from him he always reply "you must be smoking crack". Every top bodybuilder acts this way, it's how the game is played. In real life, most of these guys are quite nice and approachable.
Also I think that you don't understand the psychological mindset of bodybuilding. Confidence is SUCH an important thing. A lack of confidence can actually ruin a great physique! I've seen guys leaving the weigh-ins at amateur shows almost crying because when they saw the other competitors and they felt intimidated and inferior, when in reality they were actually better than them! As a result it ruined their stage presence and led to holding water (due to cortisol release). Lack of confidence is reflected on stage presentation. So is it surprising that the top pros act overconfident? It's a way to reinforce their belief in themselves as well as an attempt to psych out their opponents. It's fair game, we can see the same thing in any sport. Just look at Maurice Greene before a 100m race... he paces aggressively like a caged animal before the race... Each week a zillion of NFL players say how great they are and how they will beat another player 1-on-1.
Psychological warfare is present in every sport. But if you haven't lived it yourself, its hard to understand and those who act this way will obviously look like assholes to you.
About Gustavo, although I don't know him personally (I've met him once), a friend of mine spent a whole week with him and could not believe how nice and friendly he was.

That's your opinion. Sadly, results from all his contests in the past 2 years as well as all the coverage he is receiving would tend to prove you wrong.
Saying that he's a lousy bodybuilder is kinda like saying sushi is shitty food just because YOU hate it. Just because you personally don't like something/someone doesn't mean that it/they suck.
It would be much better if you said: "Gustavo seems to be doing well, but I personally don't like his physique and don't consider him to be among the best BBers in the world". There's a difference between opinion and fact.
-
whatever you say Rican
I'm actually a french-canadian... although I do have a nice tan. It's just that I tend to look at the whole thing with an objective perspective instead of simply by emotional responses.

you're sweeping off mah feet
-
my opinion is a fact
Ok, then there is no need to argue on the topic. But I'll let others make up their own mind after reviewing all the data.
-
you're sweeping off mah feet
Must be a cultural thing as I don't understand what you mean. But since this is taking a rather immature turn I prefer to step down. I tried to explain some stuff to peoples who might not get the whole picture. I presented valid arguements and instead of them being debated I received insults. What good is that doing to anybody?

Okay Ronnie. God save us

Okay Ronnie. God save us
Hmmmm... not gettin' ya ... I must be getting dumb with age. Are you implying that I'm taking myself too seriously? Still, if you want to discredit or argue any of the points I made in the boring long post I made please do. I'm always open to critiques, comments or insults provided that everything is done in a civilized way.

-
gustavo gettining slammed
Good for him... I actually am not a fan of his physique BTW. So you can rip on him as much as you want, provided that you stick to facts.
-

his bod is ok, but yeah his smack talking isn't right

Why isn't smack talking okay? It happens in every other sport. It is a part of the game. Enjoy it.
-
His bod is okay says M1. Nice work douchebag.
-
I think he's gorgeous, but's he's arrogant and all that :o
-
Have you ever met him to even experience his arrogance? Or are you going from the pictures of him "calling out" Coleman at the conference? Or, is it that you are in some way a Gustavo shmoe and you have to keep starting worthless threads about his calves or biceps and knowing you, his "bulge" is next? Play in traffic my friend, play in traffic.
-
Why isn't smack talking okay? It happens in every other sport. It is a part of the game. Enjoy it.
Yeah, you even see it on Getbig and other forums ;)
-
thats true, Gustavo is good, I'm not disputing that, lets let this thread die

Gustavo looked pretty good for about 15 minutes.
PIP

3rd best BBer on the planet? In exactly which ranking? Never anywhere else, but Gustavo's fan club ranking list. Dorks like you should understand, that we all have eyes, but only few of us are fans of Gustavo, so most of us has objective point of view about him. You clearly hasn't, you are little fan boy, with posters of him on your wall. If we take random bunch of pro BB:ers, which one he can really win:
1.Phil Heath ?
2.Kai Greene ?
3.Dennis Wolf ?
4.Shawn Rhoden ?
5.Dexter Jackson ?
6.Roelly Winklaar ?
None of them. In fact, here is IFBB pro ranking at November 2013:
1. Phil Heath
2. Kai Green
3. Shawn Rhoden
4. Dexter Jackson
5. Branch Warren
6. Jay Cutler
7. Dennis Wolf etc...
and finally...
54. Gustavo Badell
Quite long way to be 3rd best ? ;D
-
Best natural I've seen.
-
Say what? ;D ;D
i'm surprised jay didn't even make it into the list
