what are they ??? are they like a drug or something ???
-
Start a Lance Armstrong muscle worship thread, and you'll find out shortly.
RIP Munzer :-\
-
did he die of them ???

Plasma expanders are used to increase the water content of the blood.
-
ask Nassar
-
maybe Milos Sarcev can answer this one..
-
Plasma expanders suck water from the under the skin and pull it into the blood. thus making you look more pumped and with drier skin.
-
They extend your plasma.
-
Think you mean "plasma exPANDERS"??
They are drugs (mostly drugs) that are used to change the osmotic potential within the blood. They work in several ways:
-increasing red blood cell count
-increasing the plasma content of the blood (the amount of water in the blood)
-increasing the osmotic potential of the muscles (sucking extra water into the muscle tissues)
-increasing the levels of something that draws water into the muscles or supports extra water in the blood, (ie: loading muscles with salts and glucose, or increasing the potassium levels in the blood).
They are generally considered to be very dangerous and very pernicious, difficult drugs to use. Liver and kidney damge are relatively common side-effects (aswell as vision problems). Edema, possibly chronic edema (water bloat), is also a real danger with using powerful plasma-expanding drugs.
If you're interested in trying them, I'd recommend you try a few of the non-dangerous, non-drug plasma expanding protocols first so that you can see how awkward and pernickitty the whole process is:
-Mix 50 ml of glycerol (dirt cheap at your local drug store, I got 500 ml for $3) into 500 ml of (slightly warm) water. Then drink... this is enough to increase blood volume in most people. Takes 60 to 90 minutes to take effect, resulting in mild hypervolemia (increased blood volume and hence mildly increased stroke volume in the heart).
It lasts for about 2 hours (six for some people), and is evidenced by full (seemingly carb-loaded muscles), a slightly pumped feeling, decreased (sometimes drastically reduced or even eliminated) subcutaneous water, and increased vascularity (mildly increased in steoid users, substantially increased in natural athletes).
The Luke
PS - i'll post the more involved protocols if anyone is interested, but trust me, it's just not worth it.

Hi Luke Wood :)
-
Im sure Milos knows
-
After reading Luke's description of plasma expanders, the name Andreas Munzer comes to mind. That effect sounds similar.

Mixing the glycerol with Pineapple juice also has a great effect--- make sure you do your homework with it first though to establish optimal volumes as it can result in stomach cramps and a bad case of the shits, but a good starting piont is what "the luke" suggested!!!
-
HRDCOR,
The stomach upset caused by mixing pineapple juice with glycerol is due to the quantity of sugar in the juice. Pineapple juice (depending on brand and whether or not it's been sweetened) usually has 11g of sugar per 100 mls, ie: it's about 11% sugar. Add the glycerol, which in this instance should be considered a sugar because were talking about osmotic potentials, and voilia! you've hust made a dilute syrup.
For plasma-expansion/hydration purposes a figure of about 8 to 10% sugar or glycerol would be the upper limit.
That's why I said 50 ml glycerol in 500 ml of water, 50g glycerol in 550 ml liquid gives a 9.1% dilution factor.
If you're still having problems with stomach upset... use 25g glycerol in 500 ml water. A little lemon juice (teaspoonful) can effectively negate the sickly sweet glycerol flavour.

Glycerol doesn't help with anything except contest prep, and even then it's only useful for those still holding water on contest day.
Glycerol doesn't actually do anything to red blood cell count, it just puts a little extra water into your blood.
To increase your red blood cell count you'd need to use erythopoeitin (EPO) a very, very dangerous drug... or steroids. Plain old AAS noticeably increase red blood cell count.
The only safe ways to do it naturally:
-get 35-40% of your calories from fat, and most of that from omega3, omega6 and omega9
-train at altitude, then return to sea level to enjoy increased red blood cell count for at least a couple of weeks
-sleep in a hypobaric chamber (that's hyPO, not hyPER-baric)
Guess you can see which one of those is actually do-able.

i agree

just cusious, you a doc?

Has anyone ever tried what Luke said about glycerol and water?

To what end? Glycerol works for hyperhydration. It's in a few of the NO type supplements to give a pump. However, I'm not sure it increases cellular volume. It's possible it pulls water out of muscle cells into the plasma.

U have to be a chemist or entrust someone who can administer some of these compounds, they all create if done right an inhuman body but how do figure it all out and when to use all of them, thyroid, synthol.plasma, insulin, that in addition to the basics.thats some grocery list ,i guess u or someone has to keep a journal.

Bill Phillips rote about this trick in MM2000 as a pre photoshoot?contest trick.
Very well written by "the Luke"
