Flex looks great, I went to dinner with him at the O, and he looked healthy and strong, and still pretty solid, obviously not like the Flex that graced the stage, but still he looked big enough for the lay man to say , yep he,s a big dude !!!

The big change(for the better) is in his head and his thinking !

Top bloke

Funny study of human nature. You guys make excuses when someone looks outrageous that it is all steroids. Laugh at them for their abuse when they become ill or even die. And then ridicule them as pencilnecks who have no personal pride when they retire and shrink to normal healthier proportions. Interesting.

I wouldn't be suprised if some retired pro's hit some synthol to give them a bit of size for the idiots who insist their weight somehow equates to "worth".  No need to overdo it, they aren't going to be dieted down so they could get away with it.

Flex is one of the all time greats, IMO the most genetically gifted BB of all time. Props for him for continuing to make a living in a sport he used to dominate. Mentally it must be tough for him to look at these other guys and think back to his hayday. At least he seems to be doing well for himself.

Once flex stopped taking juice he was always going to shrink back down. Remember that is what made Flex so amazing. He was a 150LBS man in a 235LBS body.

He was pretty narrow in these shows before.
Was it all synthol.

Exactly the point,he had the illusion of high 220s to 230s of being that much bigger.Defeating guys at the same height who had 30+plus pounds on him(Nasser prime example).
You also have to remember he almost died and thats not an understatement for you bitches out there. The first pic he has obviously not worked out in a while but in his martial arts pic he is big and natural.
I would like to see him get into the competetive side of martial arts and show you doubters out there what a great champ he is,remebered in my eyes anyway.

Two words Dorian Yates.
And the drug regieme introduced into the early 90s.Synthol really became evident in Flexs career in 99 the amazing thing unlike 99% of users he looked good.

That's due to his muscle bellies being so full and thick, he injected them the right way, and his Synthol use was masked more so than with others.  That's his only saving grace.  He still lacked size compared to most of his era......and he underachieved more than everyone, except Cormier.

That's the thing, I don't take massive amounts of gear..or any, this is why I won't have that situation happen.  And today, I look ok and most likely for a while.
Wheeler
Yates
Levrone

All "phenomenal" genetics, etc...yet they don't appear to look like anything special on a natural level...I wonder why?

Yes, he probaly had a plastic surgeon do it for him.I would say around 97 looking at pitures is when he started injecting synthol.Like Division said his muscle structure allowed not to become obvious.

I wonder if these guys ever trained natural or started the juice pretty soon.

It varies.....

Some of them turned to the "Dark Side" when they were still teenagers......effective ly cutting off their natural growth before it could even take shape.

Kamali, Kovacs come to mind.......

Only now do you see the final tally, as Kovacs is a wreck and Kamali's progress has stalled......

Starting megadoses at an early age will prematurely ruin your physique, like any drug taken to excess for too long a time.  It all adds up, it all comes back to haunt you at some point.  Some of these guys burned the candle at both ends for perhaps 2 or 3 years at the top, and then what?

Unfullfilled promise.

On the natural note if you see some of today's pro's like dugdale and henry you will see their earlier show's in late nineties were natural type of show's for what the npc offer's as natural show, they competed as middleweight's and as they progressed from natural to chemical their physique's grew to pro level .competing clean and ripped at 170 to 205 ,210 as pro on gear in a few year's is the tradeoff.

Ninjias are funny, they wear pajamas all the time.

FWIW, Flex did not hit anyone at the front desk at Gold's Venice. I watched the video of the incident many times. He took a big right hook "get back chump or I'll bust you up!" type swing at John Bucklin. Bucklin started to follow him outside but Kent Kuehn grabbed him and said, "Forget about it... he'll kill you anyway." Flex got thrown out of the gym for 2-3 months.

Flex's best ever was the '93 Arnold... in my opinion.

I got a kidney transplant 2 years ago. It doesnt last for ever and mine is sitting in my middle abdomen,  not where they used to be. I competed for 30 years in bodybuilding and in Judo (I am a 3rd Dan black belt and Scottish national coach 1986-91) until 1996 in masters competition.  I cannot now risk f**ing my new kidney in combat sport because the thought of dialisis fills me with horror. I hope to God Flex takes it easy.

Flex is nothing short of a Miracle to be alive today. Iam proud of the fact that through everything we are friends today.
I was there when he began, when he was on top, when he got ill and when he bottomebd out.
Dude fought back, strong and hard, the past is the past and he is doing just fine.
Funny, the people FLex deals with deal with him on a level reflective of him being a man, where as in BBing he was only as agood as his last placement.
The disresepect came from people who once paid to see him onstage, they lost respect when he didn't look the same after he had to quit.
Sad commentary for one of the best we've ever seen but he isn't living in the past or for his wanna be fans.
He has moved on and living Life according to his terms and not that of an IFBB Judging panel.
More power to him, big or small.
Peace,

I agree that these guys WERE great pros...What I don't agree with is that they are genetically superior...I am bigger and sronger than Flex right now, and am natural. Does that mean I am genetically superior? And as far as an average gym rat taking the same gear these guys did for ten years and not looking the way they did...I disagree. Yes, you need average to good gentics, but that is it. Think about how different you would look if you had access to all the supplements , gear , food you could possibly handle, and you didn't work!?! If your job was to lift weights, rest, eat and take gear, I don't care who you are, you would be enormous. In fact, you could be anything you want...big, strong, shredded...Again, I'm not taking anything away from these guys and thier accomplishments, I just question there desire and love of the sport...Just becuase you can't take gear you don't exersice anymore? What kind of excuse is that?

Most top pros have great genetics as far as fast-twitch to slow-twitch muscle fibers, skeletal structure eg small hips, thick wrist bones, muscle bellies, and androgen receptors. Most average people don't possess these qualities. Pros are genetically abnormal

Peace,
Shawn

Agreed, there is no need to kick a man on the ground. But be honest, maybe people reactions are the result of all that bullshit that pro's are 'superiour' and work hard in the gym. Reality is different, most pro's are lazy in the gym, except for the minority that work hard and therefore place high at shows(just like you did). Sorry Shawn, drugs are the most important factor, nothing more. Most pro's react very well to those drugs, but I won't call that 'superiour' genetics.

I hope that someday, pro's will be honest and admitt that their bodies are mainly built through drugs.

diet and busting your ass in the gym are just as important as the drugs.. drugs are a big part of it but without the other two factors the drugs arent going to be as affective.

Most guys are busting their ass in the gym, and believe me busting your ass in the gym is a whole lot easier when you're on drugs.

The drugs make all the difference. If I trained like a PRO I would get smaller, not bigger because i can't recuperate half as fast. It must be nice to train balls to the wall every day and grow.

The pic of Flex when he looks very small..Well that pic was  taken a while ago when he was very ill  with his health problems..

Drugs.Drugs ,Drugs its all the Drugs that make a champion..WTF now I am not saying they do not have there place in the sport(and allways have) but lets get real here...
I will just do a few cycles get BIG eat sleep train for a few years and bam I will be a top IFBB Pro..able to win numerous shows, its thats simple.. ???Come-on..ya its all the Drugs..
Genetics,Genetics it aint got nothing to do with genetics thats  another  pee brian statement..just making that stupid comment tells any one who knows anything about competing that you are  clueless.. if that was the case there would be tons of Flex Wheeler like Physiques out there and shitloads of guys that look like Cutler,Yates,Ronnie,Dexter, PLEEEEASE  give us a phucken break.....
Flex Wheeler was a true Champion..
Nuff said...just my 2 cents
Peace out
D

Yes drug's will in the end make these guy's champ's on the top level, but it take's year's of punishing workout's,heavy dieting.big off season's,year after year of increased gear usage with little break's,and hoping the body dosen't break down during the peak year's.and pushing all distraction such as relationship's,with family and loved one's to the side to achieve such inhuman development, just think of what you have done on your own quest to achieve your ideal strength or physique.

You are missing the point. Flex was genetically gifted structure wise. Great frame for bb.

You can't get a waist like this from just training. Flex had the most awesome genetics especially in the shoulders to waist ratio.

It  has been said before but steroid champs get such praise while they are juicing.  When they retire due to illness or what ever reason they are laughed at.  It speaks volumes of what this sub culture of a sport attracts.  A retired natural Flex, Yates, and others are still way ahead of 95% of natural trainers.  Sure a 25 year old  juicer training for a Mr. Kansas looks better but you're comparing somone that's on the crap as opposed to someone that's off.

but how do you expect someone that has been traing all there life to the point where they turn pro, and then when they retire you expect them to continue to train the way they used too... they are retired and im sure have business ventures where that takes up most there time....   guys that are near there 40's that dont juice anymore are not going to look even half as good as they did when they were..
