Title: Unemployed and loving it!
Post by: skillion on April 08, 2014, 12:53:11 PM
Weekly Unemployment Benefit: $514
Health Insurance: Free with 0 deductible/copay
Fuel Assistance: $795 Winter 13-14
Food Stamps: Application being processed.

This is a time in my life to stop and smell the roses. To sleep in. To enjoy that second cup of coffee in the morning. Lifting weights and buying protein powder with this free money. Movies from Redbox and sleeping like a baby in mid afternoon. I love it!

Do it! Use up those earmarked dollars and live the life, that's what they are for.

Don't forget to enjoy a glass of wine too, it will keep you from doing productive shit like applying for jobs and other traps.

So the "Discipline" in your avatar is a joke of some sorts.

I was being facetious. I've been working since I was 14 and if I got laid off today I'll be working elsewhere tomorrow.

Do something productive with the time off. Read, relax (being lazy is not relaxing, go read a book under a tree or go for a walk), better yourself, do errands around the house and shit like that. Don't just jack off and nap all day.

I'll be taking time off at the end of this month and it'll be the first time in my life where I haven't worked. I worked in high school and almost everyday since graduating. Any time I have off, I try using it productively. If you just sit around being lazy, the time flies way too quickly and you've wasted that time. Make the best of it while you can. Just my two cents. If people want to sit around all day until their apartment suite smells like rotten garbage then that's their prerogative.

I'll tell you something, the human body comes up with some funky smells when you don't shower and you run out of toilet paper. McDonald's napkins are alright but don't really get the job done.

It can matter quite a lot actually, but every situation is different.

Now, if that was your situation, my comment would've been that this time could be one of the best of your life for new things so enjoy it.

Well, last night for example I rented that new Jason Statham movie Homefront from Redbox and had an awesome frozen pizza. Then I read a book I ordered from Amazon until I fell asleep. Today I will relax and take it easy as I am nursing a cold. As long as those checks keep rolling in I feel just terrific.  Actually it's not checks anymore. They download the cake right onto a debit card. Good stuff.

It's as difficult as you make it. If you can't make it without government assistance, you have major problems. It use to be people were ashamed to say they were on UE, today they boast about it. If you got fired from a job, you're entitled to it UNTIL you find another job. But if you don't find a job (or not look) just to milk the system, makes you a loser.

I'd be ashamed to be on the dole. Utterly ashamed. I always live by the 3 year rule. Have enough in the bank to cover yourself for 3 years in the event of a job loss or life changing injury. Enough so I could take my time finding another job or retrain if I must. But these irrelevant protozoa that's always one missed salary away from starvation disgusts me. How the fuck can anyone live like that  ???

Unemployment is a joke here. 188 euro/week whether you have been working a E100k/year job for 20 years paying taxes or you never worked a day and just drink on the street. I paid taxes for years through PRSI from working as an employee and owning a business and being self-employed yet when I hit hard times I had trouble getting a penny because I had been self-employed.

You see heroin addicts and alcoholics who never worked a day getting it easy but entrepreneurs and self-employed have no safety net. It's a disgrace. Working 2 jobs now for shit money (relatively speaking) but I'll get back on the ladder earning good money soon. Miss making 2k/week after taxes in mid 20's. Thought the gravy train would never end. (I'm Irish, it did.)  :-[

Germany and other countries with sense give you six months where you get half your old wages (up to a limit I presume) to get back on your feet so you can still pay the bills and encourage you to find work quickly. Here, you lose your job, you're fucked, and it has happened a lot of people in the last 5/7 years. 4% unemployment to 15% with wages dropping.

Would leave in a heartbeat if I didn't have a son and strong ties here.

I always heard welfare system in USA was shit, is that just for lifetime bums? If so, that's the right system.

Weekly Unemployment Benefit: $514
Health Insurance: Free with 0 deductible/copay
Fuel Assistance: $795 Winter 13-14
Food Stamps: Application being processed.

This is a time in my life to stop and smell the roses. To sleep in. To enjoy that second cup of coffee in the morning. Lifting weights and buying protein powder with this free money. Movies from Redbox and sleeping like a baby in mid afternoon. I love it!

I recommend going back to school during this time of "figuring out the system"

I'm recharging the batteries right now. School sounds like too much work. On a side note I'm about to eat a delicious chicken pie.

SMM, you posed as a British person a few days ago. Today you're Irish  :D

SMM, if you want to stop outing yourself, quit your incessant bragging  :-X
