I have Super Squats, Dinosaur Training and just today picked up Mentzer's last tome, High-Intensity Training the Mike Mentzer Way.

Should be as the others listed,  a good, sound, inspirational read.

Great read!

I listed it in a thread a month or so ago. It's crazy how easy it is to identify with all the characters sam encounters and befriends along the way.

One of the most fascinating people I've ever read about. Don't know whether to think he was a genius or a lunatic. Probably a bit of both.

Overall best book on strength training is Starting Strength. Whether you like Rippetoe or not, you won't find a book which lays down the foundations and basics of strength training for a novice athlete. If you are starting strength training and don't have access to your own personal strength coach, this is the next best thing.

Yup.  In my case it was up to three gallons of milk a day.  Sometimes I drank half and half, kefir or whipping cream.   Best way ever to put on mass and strength.  I got what I would consider to be very strong on the squat with  this routine first pioneered by the great J.C. Hise.  Good luck with it!

Just to remember all the varieties of bodybuilding movements I would use "Keys to the Universe" by Bill Pearl.  It's a massive book of just about any bodybuilding exercise you can think of out side of machines.

Super Squats is a great book.  Very few have enough guts to do 20 rep sets of squats until you see your life pass before your eyes.  In all my 30 years of training, high rep squatting is THE best leg/body mass building exercise I've ever used.

er, yeah, no.

Following the books advice and rest-pausing your true 10 RM for 20 reps three times a week is the most retarded , dangerous thing you can do in the gym - except maybe 20 rep deadlifts.

following it with ham sandwiches and gallons of milk is even worse.

Idiotic nonsense about 'gutsy old school training' to hide the fact that the 'golden age' BBers were swallowing dbol by the handfull

I'll admit the nutritional advice is a joke (I never followed that), but 20 rep squats (and higher) are the best thing you could ever do for your legs and your entire body.  I've done it 2x wk with amazing results.  Eventually I got up to 315 x 25 reps and 225 x 55 reps at 180lbs (natty).  People in the gym all thought I was on gear... weak minded fools.

Actually a little research would have saved you the embarrassment of the above post.  This routine was pioneered by the great J.C. Hise back in the '30s.  It works.  So do high rep deadlifts.   I don't recall anything about "ham sandwiches" but yes, milk was a part of this program.

From this post I deduce you are middle aged, immensely fat, likely spend far too much time on ironage or some other rest home "olde time lifting" forum bragging about your grip strength .... and probably have never squatted more than 405 in your entire life.

Nope.  I am much older than that but as these are the interwebs where anyone can be Neo, I suppose I could be what you guys refer to as an "HAB" or in terms that this site will allow a large blond haired, blue eyed caucasion male that would undoubtedly make your mother swoon and your grandmother rise from the grave for a chance at one sweet kiss.   ;D

Not.

From your response I gather you're none too sharp.  No worries.  It's all in fun.   But J.C. Hise was the Man.

Take care!
