Who's your fave? Post more pictures if you have some :)
-
There not new pics but i still stand by my argument that this was sergios contest. Granted i wasnt there and neither was anyone else who'll reply but i feel sergio was better. In great condition, full as ever with superior legs, v taper and structure than arnold. A full years of radical training with arthur jones got sergio in that shape and imagine another couple of years and he perhaps would of presented a physique that theyd still be trying to catch up to today.
-
sergio makes arnold look like a little boy
-
Judging by those pictures Arnold by a landslide.
Lol!!!!!!!!!!!! History shows it was one of the closest contests up to that point in time and you have the audacity to say arnold won it by a LANDSLIDE!!!
-
The only the thing Sergio has in those pictures is a smaller waist.
Arnold kills in legs, arms, chest, conditioning and back, especially lower back.
Get off the nuts of the 'myth' ::)
I will once you hop off arnolds. I accept sergios flaws such as high lats and traditionally poor conditioning but in this instance he was on. Sergios quads are so better than arnolds it not fair - incredible fullness, natural shape and sweep compared to arnolds highly detailed but "light" quads. You claim arnolds arms are superior -yes youre right if we judged them soley on the flexed bicep pose, which of course we don't. Sergio has superior triceps and forearms which if we applied NDs logic "would make for a superior arm" (note his logic doesnt extend to dorians arms bein better than ronnies).
-
Sergio looks like an alien in that first pic
-
There are more pictures around... Sergio was robbed!
Can you imagine how a different outcome would have changed bb history? Sergio would have been an IFBB athlete in the following years with more Sandows in his bag and... no Terminator and no governor Arnold...
-
Frank Zane looks better than both of them.
-
The reason Sergio's legs are a tad 'fuller' is because of all water and fat he's holding in them. His conditioning was MUCH worse then Arnold's.
As for arms, just because his triceps were bigger means nothing. He has almost no definition in them, no flow nothing.
Just looking at the two without judging any single bodypart Anrold looks a million times better.
Not to mention back in that period, bodybuilding was based on aesthetics. Being a tad bit bigger didn't mean anything when you looked 10 weeks out.
Minus the small waist and Sergio wasn't shit.
You either need glasses or your head examined/both.
-

Frank didn't have enough mass to match Sergio or Arnold. Later in his career compensate the lack of mass with amazing conditioning but in '72 he was not quite there yet.
-
Besides the smaller waist, Sergio wins on virtually every other criteria in this shot:
Better lat/waist ratio, better shoulder/waist ratio, huge advantage on tris, much better quads..
Except for legs, I'd put Nubret 2nd in this, Arnold 3rd.

Yeah, his conditioning was terrible. ::)
-
Sergio refused to be weider's man servant and was black and hispanic. These things didn't help him.
-
That's chocolate & hispanic. ;D
-
here are some more for ya...
-
Good job posting a picture that wasn't from that contest, dumbfuck. ::)
I'll echo what another member said - you need your eyes examined. You say sergios conditioning was poor but arnolds looks about the same from where i'm sitting so does that make arnolds conditioning poor or not?
-
Arnold wins on conditioning and aesthetics. For all you people who say he had no legs look at everyone else's.

You mean look at evryones bar zanes and sergios. Zane could match arnold on detail but not absolute size whilst sergio whoops him in mass and shape. Out of the five principle players only nubret and columbo have notcieble poor legs
-
Arnold said it could of gone either way. The head judge was really impressed by the two it was really hard for him to make a decision, it probably could of been a tie but Arnold was more popular thats why he probably won
-
How cool would it be if Sergio was in pumping iron? 8)
-
Poor arnold stepping on stage like that knowing he was beat. Must of flet like some spoilt little kid who needed to be saved by kind uncle joe. Sergio never stood a chance (politicaly) but gets marks in my books for sticking the middle finger up at the establishment.
-
Just sick!
Thanks for this pic bro. I'm saving it.

Look at that expression on sergios face: "i own this fuckin pose, step aside kiddies"
-
Sergio should be cloned. He was just insane.

You're probably right. If Sergio won, he would have had 4 Mr O's compared to 2 for Arnold at this time. Sergio also would have been 2 and 1 against Arnold in head to head Olympias. ( I think Arnold beat Sergio in the Mr. World in 1970, so they would have been 2 and 2 overall. ) The fact that Sergio would have been ahead, might have made Arnold have to totally beat him the next year to win, as the judging meantality of one needs to knockout the champ would be in effect.
As I read, the judging in this contest was 4 to 3 in favor of Arnold, so it was as close as it could get. If one judge had gone the other way, it could have totally changed the history and possible future of bodybuilding. I think Arnold pretended to walk off stage, and when Sergio did as well, Arnold came back and hit some more of his best poses to help sway the judges.
-
I am a Arnold fan 100%....but in some of those pictures Sergio had him.
-
You'll have to save these first I guess. Bix posted Sergio's whole autobiography but I can't find the thread.

I also think Sergio had the edge in 1972. It was close, but Sergio, who was 31 that year, was at his all time best, while Arnold, at only 25, was still developing.
Arnold was far better in 1973 and 74 and would've beaten the Sergio of even 1972, but sadly they never went toe to toe after 1972.
Anyway, just a little superimposition to compre the relaxed stance of the two guys.
-
Size freaks will be quick to point out that arnold dwarfs the little sergio but this means nothing when you consider his waist was probably 3-4 inches bigger than sergios
-
quoteCan you imagine how a different outcome would have changed bb history? Sergio would have been an IFBB athlete in the following years
Wouldn't have been allowed to happen. IFBBs a commercial enterprise, and Joe knew Arnold winning = higher magazine, equipment and supplement sales.
Arnold was far better in 1973 and 74 and would've beaten the Sergio of even 1972
Arnold's '73-'74 condition was clearly motivated by '72. Sergio got into better condition than is shown in these '72 contest shots, so '73-'74 would've been close.
-
... Sergio got into better condition than is shown in the '72 contest...
Really? When? I'd love to see some pics.
I still think his 1972 showing was his best ever, in terms of conditioning and fullness combination, although I'm more than happy to see evidence where he might've been even better.
-
I have th Arnold the early years dvd, it shows this contest, and Sergio was amazing. The dude got robbed. 71 though, Bill Pearl ran shit at the universe, he was bigger and better than everyone, not to mention he was 42
-
I posted these on IA years ago. Mostly taken around the time but not the day of the contest.
Clearly more cut than in the Olympia, and comparable to Arnold of any year.
The problem with Sergio is that there are very few shots of him in his best condition, whereas Schwarzenegger's shots are readily available.
-
Good job posting a picture that wasn't from that contest, dumbfuck. ::)
You clearly implied that Sergio never had good conditioning. Also, you're judging his level of conditioning based on some shitty 30 year old black and white photos. Fucking moron.
You also said that Sergio "wasn't shit" except for his small waist. Pretty funny coming from a guy who looks like he never trained anything besides arms.
-
Looks like he trains back also. Got any legs?

Well, the lighting of the 1972 contest was not very good so it's difficult to say with any certainty if he was in better shape in those pics compared to the contest.
But even so, these pics are from the same year and it's the contest shape that matters. I don't think his 1971 shape was quite as good his 1972.
Conditioning wise, I'd still say Arnold of 73/74 had the upper hand.
-
Sergio looked awesome, he was definitely robbed.
-
For a real treat check out the DVD Arnold: The Early Years. Has footage of the actual contest. 8)
-
im not trying to pay no 50 dollars for that
-
im not trying to pay no 50 dollars for that
I know. Only the hardcore fan does. ;D
-

Ya, but in his best condition Sergio was close enough in conditioning, and had more volume and better balance, so it's still a coin toss overall. He looked good in '73-'74 as well, but there are few pics, other than those at the Mr. International when Arnold wouldn't come out of the audience.
That says it all-even in his best shape Arnold wouldn't come out of the audience in a neutral show. That can't be debated.
-
good point pumpster :)
-
they all look like shit. Coleman could beat them all.
-
nice try troll ;)
-
arnold's waist was wider but that's not because he was fat. far from it. arnold was leaner than sergio and his conditioning was better.
-
I think the Sergio got robbed :o
-
EXCELLENT shot of Sergio.
-
Sergio's front lat spread is amazing.
-
sergio did improve even after the 72 O, but there are basically no pictures i know of, but im sure theres some somewhere.
theres those other commonly used pics of sergio in i think 80 or 81 where he beat beef it betil fox, its really a shame, after the 72 O he was mostly out of the bbing spotlight but he continued to improve, its really too bad how many more great pics there could have been
-
EXCELLENT shot of Sergio.

but Still is Sergio Oliva.
-
essen germany . arnold arms more peak sergio thighs better . arnold calves better than sergio. sergio more taper . smaller waist . . they are almost senior citizens now .
-
Along with our fellow getbigger alexxx. I guess the fame of opening those gates in 300 was too much for him to handle.
-
looks to me that arnold had it.
better combination of size and condition. Proportions were better also.
Even the FLS, i prefer Arnold's. Arnold definitely had him in FDB.
The conditioning won it for Arnold, but he was close, or had sergio beat in mass and proportions in at least half the compulsories.
Then he whipped Sergio in the free posing.
-
Sergio is awesome.
-
:o
-
Who's your fave? Post more pictures if you have some :)
Zane looks outstanding in this photo!
-
Thought Arnold always had great stage presense and his posing was exceptional, sergio on other hand posed like Dillet. Arnold wins anything close because of this.
-
Someone had to go all the way back to 2006 to finally get something bodybuilding related on this board..lol
-

shape?! LOL. arnold has some of the best shaped thighs ever. sergio is just paco-esque slabs of meat.

Who's the homosexual in reply #37 who posted pics of his nipple-ring?

Thanks John for posting the scorecard,we now have a name for the mystery man who is on the right hand side of the line up.
name mispelling on the scorecard for the last guy. don't know how he got qualified.
so many others huge names in the sport at that time, I never understood why Olympia had a so poor quantity line-up.
