Title: Dextrose, Maltodextrin and Waxy Maise
Post by: a_ahmed on April 20, 2014, 10:33:57 PM
Educate me on these three and which do you prefer and why.

Been using Karbolyn but that's $$$ so switched to Dextrose. Now running out and wondering whether getting Maltodextrin or Waxy Maise is better.

I use it only pre and intra.

I prefer dextrose.

When waxy first appeared and was making a big splash, I asked someone I knew at Costello if ABB or ON planned on releasing a version. He replied not at that time, but also told me of a study they conducted comparing a leading WM product to plain old Argo corn starch. I forget all of the criteria, but the corn starch rated higher.

I used corn starch as a training carb for about a year or so, but I seemed to have developed an allergy to it, so I stopped. Honestly, I was probably drinking too much. The pumps were strong on it and my muscles had good fullness, but my gut couldn't take it anymore. I haven't used it since, and I've never tried any of the supplement versions, either.

i like fruit...

sugar is sugar... it all becomes glucose... glucose is glucose

try testing your blood sugar levels post consumption of each of them and you will find almost identical glycemic responses...

if you really want raw sugar just buy the plain white shit...

fruit is far better

There's not much of a difference between dex and malto on how it reacts.  Dextrose a tad quicker than malto.  Taste ~ dex is sweet, malto = virtually no taste.

Franco used to eat 1/2 pound of grapes before workouts. I have tried "carb" drinks . I feel more energy with grapes or fruit.  barretta

I've seen old-school power-lifters chomp on apples while training. I believe that Louie Simmons and the West Side crew advocate the practice also.

Ya dextrose is dirt dirt cheap but I ran out and didn't bother buying.. instead I always carry a bag of some fruits (banana, dates, etc...) quick and easy. I used to use apples too, good point. A bite and it's like somehow you feel 'refreshed'.

So I guess that's that.

this may be one of the rare times we agree... the fruit gives you a lot more than just sugar... fiber... vitamins/minerals... beyond that, if you are dieting it helps keep you from feeling hungry with a very low calorie to volume load...
