Title: Rinsing Lean Ground Beef?
Post by: gunnz on January 23, 2006, 10:24:03 AM
So let me get this straight:

You first cook your ground beef, then rinse it with hot water?

or

You first rinse your ground beef, then cook it?

And while we are on the subject, I get 96/4 Lean Ground Beef.  Isn't this just as lean as the leanest steak?

Rinse than cook.  Yes 96/4 is as lean as lean steak, but it's also pretty pricey.

Thanks for the reply.

I have seen it in grocery stores for almost $5 per lb.

I have a friend that works at a Meat Processing plant.  I get 4 - 10 lb tubes for $100.

oh, huh, my mistake then.

i was thinking, you know, some fat might get trapped in the cooked portion, but if you rinsed in hot water before hand all the fat would melt and sort of congeal and slide off.  oops.

EVERYONE LISTEN TO PRINCESS ABOUT NUTRITION.

96% lean beef is like 30g protein 5g fat.  That's not low fat enough?  ???  A little fat is supposed to be good for testosterone anyway.

Rinsing would be an ecconomical alternative to buying the $$$ stuff

When I cook the lean beef for pasta and what not, i put the meat in the strainer and drain the grease out... Seems to work pretty well.
