You think Manziel falls that far?

I'd take that pic at 16.

I was reading Mayock's picks yesterday and it made sense. He has Bortles ahead of Manziel for top QB. I see it as teams are afraid of the negative attention he might bring. I personally think he's not ready for the NFL..he's too young and would get killed by veterans. I'm not very good at this stuff but that's how I see it.

someone that wants to put asses in seats (JAX?) will probably grab manziel.

They might have a 30% chance that Bortles or Carr end up being a really good QB
They will have a 100% chance that seats will be filled for the next 2 seasons.

I think he's gonna be a terrible NFL QB, but I think he'll probably go 3rd because JAX needs ticket sales to survive, and he'll do that.  PLUS, he's now saying in the press that he DOESN'T want to play for JAX, which means there must be a lot of buzz about it.

It's like going on one date with a known crazy girl, because you know you'll get crazy good sex and it's good for your rep.  You turn down safe, smart, sweet girls because you want the short term props and fun.  He's a scrawny tebow that throws a little better, but he'll be crushed at the NFL level.   But he'll sell tickets.

The risk reward aspect of it works more towards the teams favor with the a middle first round pic with a guy like that who has a ton of upside at the most important position(by far) in football.

But then again what a damn nightmare that could turn out to be. Even if Romo had the boys going 6-2 or something like that then shits the bed with back to back 3 interception games. The fans would be ALL over Jerry Jones to put Manziel in regardless of how ready he was.

maybe in playing styles, BUT he's nowhere near Vick in terms of talent, physical makeup, or resiliency.

Vick's taken a beating like none other in NFL history and he's sitll standing.  Injured just about every year.

yep, that's what i said - manziel can throw better.  But he's not a tight thrower, either.  He had NFL guys catching those balls.  He's accurate, but not yet NFL accurate.  Luck came out of college with NFL accuracy.  Manziel is a good thrower for college, but was so amazing due to his feet.  His feet won't help much in the pros.  Defensive linemen would LOVE for him to scramble and try to juke 4 guys on one play lol.  Imagine being THE guy that ends manziel's career in his rookie month... that lineman would be a legend.

I agree, Manziel's got talent, but he's too small and not ready for prime time in my opinion.  If he lands on the Cowboys God help him LOL....he'll enjoy next season's glorious 3-13 and the following season's 2-14 LOL and remain fully undeveloped.

Traded down from pick 4 and missed out on Watkins who might be the best offensive player in the draft.  Missed out on OL help in Matthews that they desperately need.  Then picked a smallish cornerback ahead of where he realistically should have been drafted.

They did get Buffalo's first round pick next year for going from pick 4 to pick 9.  All I'm saying is that it better be a good pick next year.  Cleveland still has pick 26 tonight so we'll see what they do.

Yes there is usually still good talent all through the first and second rounds.  Not always hall of fame talent.  Guys that can play in the league and contribute.  Cleveland has been stockpiling draft picks since they traded Richardson last season.  It's great to have all those additional picks but they only help you if you pick the right guys.  Right now I don't have confidence that they do.

kid is only 21.   all the AAS and GH has him aging rapidly.  He'll be bald by 24.  Or get plugs and just look ridiculous.

I think manziel catching passes on a jet ski was the final straw for teams.  After his mgmt team keeping him quiet and acting like a pro for a few months... we see him partying and doing jet ski stunts a week before the draft?  Crazy.

Looks like Saints passed on him too.  I think 99% of the nation wanted to see him doing that sad mopey table session at the NFL draft.  I guess if you do'nt have an NFL body, and you don't have a NFL work ethic, you can't get by on NFL style alone.

Those narrow shoulders... yikes... doesn't have a pro athlete body, he just doesn't.   No height and no width.

That's one question I'm not sure about.
The first few rounds are usually locks for making the team.

The NFL is not like basketball or baseball. A team can cut you at any time.

You are guaranteed a certain amount of money per contract. A player can sign a 100 million dollar deal, but maybe only 30 of it is guaranteed.
Title: Re: NFL Draft tomorrow

for example last year kansas city chiefs #1 pick was Eric Fisher

They agreed on a five-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $22,190,498, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The contract includes a signing bonus of $14,518,544, and Fisher will get $10 million of that paid within five days, the source said.

His base salary will be $405,000 in 2013; $495,000 with a training camp roster bonus of $918,659 in 2014; $585,000 with a roster bonus of $1,837,318 in 2015; and $675,000 with a roster bonus of $2,755,977 in 2016. The fifth-year option belongs to the Chiefs under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

all good. I think lottery picks in the NBA get the first 3 years guaranteed.

ALL NBA contracts are guaranteed.   They have lots of guys on 10-day contracts for months at a time.

Guys like Anfernee Hardaway (remember him?) will sign and hurt a knee and spend a decade on a bench.  Or worse -
1. Gilbert Arenas - Year: 2008 - Contract: 6 years, $111 million.  Quickly signed, injured, threatened teammate with a gun at practice, traded away.   All guaranteed $, even if he brings a gun to work to threaten teammate lol.

That's a huge difference if you're an NFL QB.

The only difference is height. If you put them side by side in a combine line up, Manziel wins. Height is starting to become a non-factor. It's footwork and speed. Russell Wilson proved it as well as Manziel.

manziel proved it in college... a lot of short QBs do well in college.   Manziel hasn't proven a short QB works at the pro level.

in the NFL, only Russell has "proven" it... and he certainly has dropped off after a great start.  I don't see height suddenly becoming a non-factor.  Russell has a great defense, a great work ethic.

Manziel doesn't have a durable body.  He just doesn't.

The more I think about it, The Cowboys made the right move by skipping Johnny and picking up the guard from Notre Dame.

That's the third first round offensive lineman they've picked up in the past 4 years and the other 2 have been pretty damn good so far.

So basically you have 3 top tier lineman all under 24 years old and if Romo isn't back there having to pull his "jedi pull a play out of his ass" routine and has time to throw then he can be pretty damn good. One of in the best in the league when he doesn't have to force plays, IMO.

The Cowboys defense is still garbage so it will still likely result in mediocrity next year but I'll take that upgraded line and Romo over Manziel and all the potential headaches he presents.

Manziels height might not be a factor only because of the size of his hands. Supposedly he has banana's for hands. I've read that most teams won't even bother with a QB who has smallish hands because they feel the ball will be stripped and fumble problems. Plus grip on the ball in bad weather...

he was a solid QB in an amazing system.

average arm.  average decision making.  his WRs could out-genetic their defenders most of the time.

SEC is the best conference in college football.

There are 7 rounds. There is no guarantee that the later draft picks will make the team.

Weak tweeners dont win SEC defensive player of the year.

SEC is the best conference in college football.

The guy should have easily went in the 3rd round.

He slipped to the 7th because he was gay.

I bet Goodell made a few phone calls to make sure this kid got drafted.

6'-1", 261 lbs, slow, weak, and gay. If he wasn't brown, he'd be you.

;D.... And I would also be playing for the Rams.

No, not the Rams you are used to getting.

And you have as much chance of making the team as Sam has.

But he will write a book, do a movie deal and get a front-office job in the nfl once his two week long career is over.

You'll still be a drunk who answers every Rehaluk beck and call

http://guyism.com/sports/manziel-patriots-scounting-report.html

Read the New England Patriots scouting report on Johnny Manziel because they really disliked him

Johnny Manziel begrudgingly went to the Cleveland Browns in the 2014 NFL draft.

Manziel’s face told the whole story but a leaked internal scouting report from the New England Patriots tells a whole other but unsurprising story about “Johnny Football.” He’s a fucking prick.

BroBible obtained the official scouting report of the New England Patriots from the 2014 NFL Draft. All of the football notes the Patriots made mirror exactly what every football talking head has been saying about Manziel since he officially announced he was leaving school early for the NFL.

The info New England collected about Manziel’s character and family life is much, much juicier.

From the vibe of online articles, father seems a little too involved and overstepping his boundaries. Vibe on this guy keeps getting worse. Support staff members are sick of him and ready for him to go. Described as a cocky, me-guy. Loves football, FBI is high as well. Everything has been pretty well-documented in online articles about the kid, but sources say he’s a spoiled brat (grandfather gives him allowance, father bought him luxury car). Comes from ‘outlaw bloodlines’, mom moved the family to Kerrville to get away from father’s wild family. Father’s family is said to be very shady people, always into something, they are the root of Johnny’s personality.

BANG! BANG! Outlaw Johnny! The entire scouting report is a fascinating read, and I don’t want to spoil it, but the progression of his attitude seems dead on.

Best of luck to the Cleveland Browns franchise.

(Bill traded from #9 to #4 from Browns)

#4 Buffalo Bills

WR - Sammy Watkins  Clemson

This was the most insane move of the draft. They gave up next years 1st and 4th round picks to move up 5 spots and grab a WR. I dont doubt that Sammy Watkins is going to make a fine NFL player but no way do I, if Im the Buffalo Bills, trade away all that for one dude. Should have just waited till #9 and if Sammy wasnt still on the board then they could have picked up Odell Beckham or Brandin Cooks. But hey, it resulted in Stevie Johnson coming over to my 9ers, so i cant complain!!!

Cleveland should have taken Watkins.  They fucked up.  Probably fucked up big.

They aren't taking Manziel.  I hope they take Matthews.
That comment came back to bite you ;D I think the browns made out real well in this draft, considering they came away with Gilbert, Manziel and two first round picks next year.

SEC is the best conference in college football.

Some say that's about the system, not the player.  Look at SEC QBs in the NFL:

Alabama? No.

Auburn? Jason Campbell... and, that's it.

Arkansas? No (unless someone from before they entered the SEC did good things as a pro)

Ole Miss? Eli Manning, and that's it.

Mississippi State? Could probably eliminate the QB position from their offense and never tell the difference.

LSU? No, only mega-bust Jamarcus Russell, and never-was Tommy Hodson. Which is better than nothing, I guess.

Vanderbilt? Jay Cutler, who may have been the only Vandy QB to go pro since the Gilded Age.

South Carolina? No.

Florida? Lots of guys drafted, but Shane Matthews is the only one that ever did anything. It was brought up not to forget Rex Grossman, who miraculously helmed the position for the Bears in their 2006 run, and started a bunch of games (credit to brandon12mc for pointing out Rex).

Georgia? Matt Stafford has looked good, but cannot stay healthy at all. Aside from him though, they had plenty of guys drafted, but again, none that did anything meaningful.

Tennessee? Peyton Manning, and super draft bust Heath Shuler. None of their other drafted QBs ever reall did anything.

Kentucky? Tim Cou-nevermind, no, they haven't produced a single one.

So why is this? What is it about the SEC that makes it so prohibitive for its QBs to succeed in the NFL? Plenty of guys from every other conference have gone on to do great things.

It can't be written off as "well everyone runs the ball too much," because the SEC produced Pro Bowlers and Hall of Famers in bunches, long before the conference discovered "forward pass" in the 1990s.

#20 New Orleans Saints

WR  - Brandin Cooks - Oregon St.

This kid grew up in Stockton. I lived there. I was hoping he would fall to the 9ers, because dude has got burners and we could use a speedy wide out, but in the end i think it all turned out for the better. Drew Brees has a nice weapon in this one

I disagree....they have Pettigrew already, and had many more pressing needs than TE.
