"Immigration reform" is the new code phrase for amnesty.
Chamber’s Chief: Without Immigration Bill, GOP Should Skip ’16 Presidential Race
By LAURA MECKLER
Congress would pass immigration legislation this year and said Republicans shouldn’t bother to field a presidential candidate in 2016 if they don’t.
His comments echo warnings from others, including high-profile Republicans, that the GOP cannot win if it does not improve its showing with the fast-growing Latino electorate, and cannot do that without approving an immigration package. The Senate passed a bipartisan bill last summer but it has languished in the GOP-controlled House ever since.
“If the Republicans don’t do it, they shouldn’t bother to run a candidate in 2016,” Mr. Donohue said at an event Monday on infrastructure issues. “Think about that. Think about who the voters are. I just did that to get everybody’s attention.” (His comments are at about the one hour mark on this C-Span video.
Some House Republicans have said they want to pass immigration legislation, including legal status and the chance for citizenship for those in the U.S. illegally. But many in the House are loathe to take on an issue the divides the party during an election year.
Mr. Donohue tried to knock down one popular notion that Congress can still tackle the issue next year, ahead of the 2016 election. “We’re absolutely crazy if we don’t take advantage of having passed an immigration bill out of the Senate because going back and doing it again might be harder,” he said.
Beyond politics, he said stalling on immigration will have economic ramifications. He said immigrants are needed for all sorts of jobs, including health care. “If you don’t do it (pass immigration), you’re going to go to the nursing home and pick up your mother-in-law and bring her home,” he said.

Oh please.

I simply do not understand the logic of these people.
Aside from the whole, you know, treason thing...why the fuck do they think that all these people are going to suddenly vote republican if they just 'pass amnesty'???
I mean i truly do not understand the logic here. Passing amnesty will be the death knell of this country, and will ensure the demise of their own party as well...put they are pushing for it full blast nonetheless.

Because all politicians care about is getting elected and staying in power.

Thats why the dems are pushing for it, no doubt.
But why is the republican establishment also pushing so hard for it? All the new votes wont be going to them...in fact it will be the final execution style headshot to the republican party lol

Bunch of sellouts. These punks are trying to get Cruz on board with their "hey, we support amnesty just like the libs!"
sickening. fck them and anyone that buys into their crap. Before the 2016 election, most repubs were against amnesty. Suddenly, they all decide to move positions.
now they're shitting on the 'holdouts' like Cruz that are standing by their anti-amnesty values.

They are pushing so hard because they think this will appeal to Hispanic voters. It isn't about trying to secure the borders, help people, etc. It's purely about votes IMO.

See, the math doesn't line up here.
#1) give illegals the right to vote, and they're gonna vote dem.
31% of illegal aliens surveyed identified themselves as Democrats; 4% as Republicans. In addition, 23% of illegal aliens lean toward the Democratic Party while 15% lean toward the Republican Party (Pew Hispanic Center, July 2013).
#2 current hispanic voters want tougher borders
60% of Hispanic voters support tougher border enforcement, with only 35% opposed.
#3More current hispanic voters are already dems.
51% of U.S. Hispanic adults are Democrats or lean Democratic, compared with 45% of all U.S. adults. 24% of U.S. Hispanic adults are Republican or lean Republican, compared with 41% of all U.S. adults. Identification with the Democratic Party is higher among older Hispanic adults. Gallup researchers concluded that it "appears that young Hispanic adults will remain lopsidedly Democratic throughout their lives. There is also no generational evidence at this point suggesting that they will become more Republican" (Gallup, February 2013).
