Maybe overkill, maybe justified, maybe another tactic (nightclub/maglite) would have been better...

I enjoy a wide variety of scenes on Cops but domestic disputes involving a good amount of belligerency has to be towards the top of the list.

tough here... the cops puts 11 rounds into him... most of them after he's face down on ground.
But they did ask him for 2+ minutes to drop the darn knife. He did come at them.

Justified but very unfortunate.
Yeah, I rarely think these situations are justified but the guy had ample opportunity to save his own life. 3 minutes of nothing but "drop the knife! drop the knife!"....and then he charges the cop at the end, what do you expect.

He was charging with a knife... bringing a flashlight to a knife fight. Oh boy.
That cop did EVERYTHING he could, many other cops would have killed him quicker.

I like to troll. THe shoot was legal. I just think had the cop called for maglite and just put the kid on his ass with it, they could have avoided shooting him. Of course, the mom would have sued for cracking his head, so yeah...

maybe. I wouldnt risk my life to save his, letting him get in close enough to jammy him in the noggin with a 10" flashlight... nah fuck him. I would dump him and grab lunch after.

This situation was identical to the Trayvon incident.

Officer involved just gives statement(usually most depts handle it this way) Supervisor fills report out...he you usually get some nice time off for a shooting(requalify at range,talk to dept shrink-which is mandatory)...not the end of the world

My dad saw a similar situation in Okinawa back in the 1950s while in Marine Corps. Crazed hoped up colored Marine had another by a knife and was slowly carving him up. The MPs repeatedly told him to drop the knife to no avail. A Marine captain in near area drove up in jeep not saying a word drew his 45 cal pulled trigger unleashing the colored Marines brains onto the street. Not sure if the victim survived.
