The keyboard on my Asus laptop is suddenly acting up. The left shift key now types a hyphen "-" and the right shift key types the letter "c". I have tried reinstalling the keyboard and have checked to confirm its set to the English - USA layout but nothing has worked. Do any of you computer nerds on here know what the problem could be? Do you think the keyboard is just shot? The computer is about 2 or 3 years old.

Time to get a new one...

Each key on a computer keyboard has two contacts for each key. They are connected to logic circuits that create the Asci code for each symbol. When you stroke a key the two contacts communicate to the Asci logic and the character is communicated to the microprocessor.
Either the bus for one of the row of keys has gone bad, or the logic array has gone bad. A new keyboard will solve your problem.

Its a laptop. Can you change the keyboard or to expensive?

It should work if you clean it good, I spilled tuna and vinegar on mine and luckily it still works, the question mark is fucked though.

Welcome to gimmick city ;)

Just go out to Best buy and get a keyboard and plug it into your USB port and set it on top of your laptop. Done deal.
If you need a multiple USB plugin, get one of those also.
Pretty EZ fix.

Word on the street is that booty had a keyboard that would only type the word "cocks", not matter what keys she pressed.

Depends on the brand. If it has a socket, not a problem. Even if soldered in not too bad of a problem, but you have to be conversant with a soldering iron.

In the US they say 'soddering' while elsewhere they pronounce the L. Sole-during. Guess this has to do with the once popular use of 'sodding' as a curse, which never caught on in the US. It's short for sodomizing. I just don't want your efforts to fix your keyboard to turn into the basement scene from Pulp Fiction.
The more you know.
