Just another time wasting game, haven't played it myself but I know people who play it. Seems to be very popular.

Solid amount of viewers on twitch ( http://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Minecraft )

Real time role-playing, survival game. Both client and server are written in Java.

I put up a MC server in my house for my son and his friends. I used that to teach him basic Java and routine Linux administration.

I've never seen such a generation of 2nd graders that know minerals, earth composition and housing construction so well.

I've played it a few times with nephews and nieces, could never get into it personally... digging holes, building little houses, maybe turning a pig into pork chops... but kids let their guard down and talk while playing, so it's a good parenting tool.

One of my favorite games, but it depends on how creative you are.

I have no idea.

My son loves it - it seems to me there's no actual point to it but he assures me there is.

You can punch cows though - and that entertained me for about 15 minutes, so it's not all bad.

Create your own world and play around - can be pretty addictive.
What I like about it, is that it's small project(1 clever dude I assume) who circumvented the shitty industry and created something visually simple which nonetheless yields great game play value.

what are the inctricities of all the mineral stuff in the game , do that actually have chemistry built into the game like mixing elements together and what not? how does all that play out, i saw where one person was making feul and i thought that was pretty wild to have in a game just how deep is the game?

Satie summarizes everything that's good with Minecraft Forky.

It's just one of my individual builds, I haven't played on a server for quite awhile. I just play occasionally now.

It keeps the sheeple asleep, distracted and diverted.  Same goes for tech-toys, facebook, twitter and other assorted nonsense.

Hope this helps.

For kids, I think it fosters creativity and logical thought, if not overdone.

yep...  they can do simple things like build beds using materials... or combine what they find to make ingredients, that they use to cook.   They can spawn life and follow the life cycle.  They can do some higher level things that I still don't quite understand, but the 8 year olds can do it.  They know their minerals, different kinds of rocks, combinations with flint and redstone and who knows what else.  It's like they're tricking kids into learning engineering and some physics and other science.  And you can teleport, make signs, communicate, and now play with weapons in some pixel gun 3d vadiations, for FPS gameplay.   once they add some more math, kids will be learning all the major subjects and have no idea lol.

Yet another thing of which I'm blissfully unaware, and could not care less. Can we get some beers up in this thread, or what?

I don't get the hype but fuckers have made millions if not billions from it.

nailed it. it's just virtual legos. it's a way to kill time or just have fun puttering around.

but this is a message board where people spend hours a day arguing about why this dude in a thong should have gotten a plastic trophy over that other dude in a thong. who's wasting their time again?

legoes are super expensive these days, so yeah, it's like an unlimited lego kit... where kids can fly, interact with animals, etc.

The "mods" are amazing.   The things people come up with, just limitless.

did you see where those dudes made King's Landing? like... the whole goddamn thing? people go crazy with MC and it's awesome, IMO.

hell some people have  managed to make actual computers INSIDE the game. Like with microprocessors and assembly language.

Why did he call it The Gym Song?  Nobody could lift to that.

That's a movie fav tho.  I think they used it in Dinner With Andre and Black Stallion, and I'm sure I've run into it elsewhere.

My kids play it alot. Sometimes i join in with them but it gets boring and tedious after about 5 mins.
