Title: WWE Top 50 Finishing Moves
Post by: LurkerNoMore on June 17, 2014, 06:39:19 AM
Watched this DVD by the WWE the other day out of boredom.  I think what they did was employ 2 high schoolers to steal clips off youtube and make the film.  That was the kind of quality it was.

I was never a fan of Regal, found him boring and stale.  However, he was an excellent host/commentator for this.  Never thought he would be this good.  So was Alex Riley.  Matt Striker was the worst.  Absolutely horrible.  You would think he was teaching Used Car Sales University.  And that Drew McIntire couldn't say anything other that "ain't getting up" it seems.

Anyway, the list was a bust mostly.  JBLs Clothesline From Hell was #50.  Striker just went on and on about it being innovative and the most powerful.  Guess they never watched any Rick Steiner matches when he was with Kevin Sullivan in the Varsity Club.  (before they told him to tone that Steinerline down)  Or maybe they never heard of Stan Hansen.

Honky Tonks neckbreaker was rated higher than Rick Rudes.  WTF?

Eddies splash was rated higher than RVD which I agree with.  Snukas was the highest of the three.

The Piledriver was middle of the field and only Lawlers was rated.  Orndorff put him to shame with his.

Bastista had a better powerbomb than Kevin Nash.

Sting was listed for the Scorpion Death Lock but Bret listed higher (no surprise with politics)

Edge was nominated for the spear.  Goldberg would spear him out of his shoes though.

I watched this on Netflix, but you can see it on youtube as well.  Won't "spoil" the top 3.   But you can easily guess what they are.

Kevin Nash's powerbomb was absolutely pathetic. He would just lift the guy up and drop him on his back with zero downward force.

Was Abe Jacobs' "kiwi leg roll" included ?

Nash was just a lazy fuck..
No effort..
Refused to take any kind of bumps...

Bret Hart's figure 4 around the ring post was bad ass.

Yeah, but it was just about "finishing moves".

Ask CM Punk about that, after Nash drilled him at SummerSlam. He nearly broke Punk in two.

How could the piledrive be middle of the pack, with the Undertaker's Tombstone being in the mix?

I'd also nominate 'Taker's Last Ride powerbomb.

If Jake "the Snake" Roberts' DDT isn't in the top 10, that is utter blasphemy.

I can't remember exactly where he placed, but I think it was top 10.

DDT is great because it can be executed against anyone...not having to pick someone up, etc.

Worst move...the Rock n Roll Express double drop kick...oh, brother   ::)

WHAT!!! The "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" rated higher than the "Rude Awakening"?

Did The Godfather made this list, after partaking of some of that sticky-icky?

I wouldn't consider that the worst finisher. That might go to the Bushwhackers' battering ram.

I had forgotten about that one.

I remember them far more fondly as The Sheepherders.

I saw them in Florida Championship Wrestling as the Sheepherders, before they started licking people and eating sardines in the WWF.

As far as great finishers go (especially one that nearly crippled somebody), how about the Shaker Heights Spike (aka the Beverly Bomb) by the Beverly Brothers?

I thought the Garvin Stomp was bad....

Was that his finisher? I thought it was the "Hands of Stone" knockout punch.

Once the Rock started using the "People's Elbow" as his finisher, it became sorry. During the match (especially as a heel in late '97/early '98), it looked fairly cool.

The foot stomp was a set-up move to the Hands of Stone.

His was incredible because of the snap he'd get out of it.

This is my #2.

My #1 is Christy Hemme's "Flying Firecrotch Guillotine."

My favourites of all time would be:

Canadian Destroyer
Sharpshooter
Doomsday Device
Frankensteiner (original)

The most overrated / worst of all time IMO:

Bushwacker Battering Ram
Khali Chop
Samoan Spike
The Playmaker
Duggan's Clothesline
the Simonizer

Macho Man's elbow drop is my all time favorite. He just dropped that thing so pefectly again and again.

Second favorite is Flair's Figure Four, so fast putting that thing on.
