Dennis was the reason why i started bodybuilding. he was on some old cover and i thought his arms looked superhuman like. they said then that the leukemia came from gh use but that sounds like bs. back then they did not use like today and even if he did it would not have matterd. totally sucked he could not continue. he must have been very young. imagine 10 more years on this guy...

strange thing is most of the crowd ,and lensmen and people who discovered these guys were gay/bi or into alternative lifestyles meaning whoever was around they did...paris had a beautiful 'no homo'build,when he posed artistically he looked incredible,mandatories he lost it not enough thickness in needed places.he also rose up quick in early 80's ditched bbing for modeling and shrunk and came back in later 80's better but lost time or base for judges to remember ...by then strydom,haney,labrada,gaspari,demey were too good...

Newman had what was in my eyes the physique I wanted. looked healthy. not ungodly big but for a white guy about as good as it got. like you'd look at him and think that is alllllmost achievable for me, you know? like it's a look that didn't scream drugs, so maybe I had a shot. lol
and 20 years later I'm still chasing it. eventhough I realised early on I'll never look like Dennis, I could do the best with what god has dealt me genetically.
and really at the end of the day that's what it's all about. not being better than this guy or that guy, cause there is always someone better than you, or trying to look like this guy or that guy, cause your genetics determine that, but just maximizing and realising your own potential, whatever that might be for you.

dennis used to be a customer of my pharmacy in TJ. came in with chris cormier a couple times, but would usually have stuff muled over the border. back in '00/01 dennis dwarfed chris.. I rememnber thinking 'wtf.. is that dude competing again??"... right after that I thought "holy fuck.. what happened to his hair???" since I'd never imagined seeing him with his hair SUPER thin.. I dunno if he started Proscar or what, but judging by his hair back then, I'd have thought he'd be completely bald by now. always a super nice dude. he's still good friends with chris and chris tells him to 'put on the posing trunks one more time'.
